And here is what proves who is the Ass.

if there is, as your posts suggests, no one in the right lane, (you did type that right?) why is it so hard for you to be the one to slide right, pass then move back in when you have gained a safe distance from the person driving the limit?

Is it an insult to your assumed superiority for someone not to instantly move over for your greatness?

Agreed! If I am obeying the law, I bow to no one! Especially a self-centered speeder: "Hot s**t, comin' through!" Not on my dime!

It's obvious that we all have our opinions on this, but I think this is what will hold up in court:

Understanding Vehicle Speed, page 11.

It is safest to drive at the same speed that most
traffic is moving, up to the maximum speed limit.
In fact, traveling at a speed lower than other traffic
encourages other vehicles to constantly pass you
and increases the chances of a crash.

Then there is this, from a FB conversation:

I was listening to talk radio and various cops calling in about this incident, and there was some disagreement on how individual cops would have handled it. But they all agreed that the law in Maryland that the left lane is only to be used for passing slower cars in the right lanes, no matter what the speed limit is. The left lane is NOT a travelling lane. So if she wasn't passing traffic in the lane to the right of her, then she was breaking the law.

I think, in the end, it will depend on the judge, and whether or not he got laid the night before. This has the potential to set a precedence for future left lane loafers. Maybe they are seeing that driving slower in the left lane is a hazard  We shall see.

edited to add: I did 40-45 mph all the way to work again this morning. It was a nice, relaxing drive in for me. Not so much for the enormous line of traffic behind us

It's NOT a shame that you will be the one getting the ticket, LOL!

If you used your reading comprehension, the asshat that got the ticket was the one refusing to get over....

Your assumption that I'm a speed demon just because I have no patience for self important douche nozzles would be incorrect. I was just trained how to drive in a state that doesn't have it's head shoved completely up its own arse.

Only, it's not the law. But, after watching someone cut me off to go around some old chick doing well below the speed limit on 235...I'm starting to agree with the general public. :ohwell:

I dont think anyone here suggested driving under the speed limit while in the left lane.
as a matter of fact, I would bet that most on the side of the speed limit argument are going to drive 5 to 10 over the speed, the question is if those people should be forced out of the lane for someone that has the desire to go 20 or 30 over.
If Im passing cars in the right, regardless of how fast I am traveling, or even if I am doing the speed limit, I am well within my rights to do just that.

I had to go around a left lane slug this morning coming up 301/5 from cedarville.

Cars passing the douche on the right so I had to wait for an opening. I flew around him, jumped back in left lane and he speeds up to tailgate me. Just then traffic slows abruptly and I come down hard on my brakes. I was waiting and hoping he pops me but he didn't. Ass hole backed way off then and fell out of sight. :killingme

There is hope for you yet! :yahoo:

Dammit. It scared the crap out of me. I was in the right lane doing 55 and could see her brake lights as was slowing down off and on for awhile. This guy in a Mustang came flying up behind her and darted over to the right lane to pass her. He did not use his blinker and I don't even think he was looking. He barely missed me and flew around her cutting her off as well. I hope she was wearing her Depends. As I was passing her I glanced over and saw her staring at her steering wheel. I'm guessing that she was staring at her speedometer and slowing down when she reached her maximum speed which must have been about 45.

Just ahead of us was the 235/5 light. He damn near hit me only to be stuck in traffic at the light. Karma.

This raises another traffic poll. I'll start a new thread.

That my my issue right there. I am a right hand driver except times pass and after countless times eing tailgated and cut uff for people to felt around the guy in the left just moseying along...I decided, imo, he was just as much at fault if something happened.
Keep right except to pass seems to keep traffic flowing smoothly.

Believe it or not most of us are not a-holes or stupid. Most of us drive the way we drive for a reason.

There are definitely a-holes and stupid people, but for the most part, we just want to get to work safely and quickly without having to deal with ignorance and discourtesy.

If the general public does something, it's not always a bad thing.

Not always.

and on the other side, the old chick could have seen mr zippypoo coming up, changed lanes quickly and suddenly you are faced with the backend of a car that is going well below the speed you are.

in Maryland you are not allowed to go 10 under the limit in the left lane. (yes that is an actual written law) so if she was moving that slow, she should have been in the right.
Of course, had she been in the right, you would have had to move left to pass her, then zippypoo would have been flying around you with his finger up.

None of this would matter if people just followed the set limits, there would be no tailgaiters, no road rage, and less accidents.

When I am on my way to work in the morning (530am-ish) traffic flows on average 55-60mph, even though the limit is 45. For someone doing the 45mph speed limit in the left lane, it really does impede traffic and makes it unsafe for those of us stuck behind them because it is difficult to get over and go around them when everyone else is zipping on by. On the flip side, if they need to eventually get over to their left, it may be difficult for them, too.
