Good luck with that.

You'd have a better chance of teaching people how to fly by flapping their arms, and eliminating traffic altogether.

No. To make it safer I suggest doing what's safest. Driving 55 may be safest while you're tooling up and down Rt. 4 in Calvert County.

Driving 55 in the 3rd lane of the beltway during rush hour is ####ing psychotic.

Merging is so pathetic around here that I don't even want to talk about it.

as far as 55 in the 3rd lane, I hang the third lane from the left, second from the right (4 lanes) and at 55 I dont ever get people tailing me, or do I seem to piss people off. Been working pretty good for me for the last 5 years.
I will not however hang out in the right lane, the Aholes are always stopping traffic at the front of the exit ramps becuase they are just too important to sit in any line that might be forming to get off.

This is only a 'story" because it's basically the "Man bites Dog".
Dawned on me that what likely happened was the woman was creating a rolling block and the officer got ticked off because she simply refused to move (for him). In other words, it wasn;t that she was simply driving slow in the left lane, she refused to yeild that position and to yeild it to him.

Well, then you seem to have found the sweet-spot. Good on you.

I was under the impression you were saying you like to hang out in the 3rd-from-right lane. That lane often seems to move at a fair clip so I was indeed wondering how safe driving 55 in that lane actually is. Not very, was my conclusion.

I won't drive in the right lane either, until I have to. For the same reason.

Based on the article I'm not convinced the ticket was justified from a legal standpoint. There is no law that requires you drive faster than (or even at) the posted speed limit anywhere. The cop is advocating breaking the law. If anything the cop should get counseled for overreaching. The ticket will get overturned.

Maybe its the time I go. I do stuff over the net from home in the mornings, Have all the software on my home system to connect to the work servers and do the hands off stuff. Then I mosey on in anywhere from 8 to 9:30am depending on the call level at my phone. By 2:30 by the time 2:30 rolls around, if I dont take a lunch, Ive given up my 8 hours for the day so I leave.
My run back to annapolis on 32 has me right at the very start of the rush hour, I hang left lane all the way to 97 usually doing 61 in the 55. Im passing people right of me, but not very fast.

:lmao: I've had ppl. run up on me and just as I am about to brake check them, they back off. I'm not sure why they do run up on you like that.

daughter and I were coming back up 214 from edgewater a few months back, there was a guy behind my truck on a Harley, he was doing the rush up and fall back like he was going to hit me.
I so bad wanted to break check him, but All I could imagine was him hitting the ground.. and that would have been extreme. Didnt want is ignorant death on my hands.

I've always wondered about that too. I think drivers have a hard time with judging distance/speed until they run up on the back bumper. Then it becomes trial and error until they feel comfortable.

Yesterday on the way home, I decided to play nice just like people suggested here.
I hit 32, got in the right lane and set the cruise at 55mph.
here is how it went.
during the merge areas, I kept at 55, people are ignorant, one guy was actually on the shoulder to my right pacing me because he could not figure out that he either needed to speed up or slow down. I kept steady, he finally slowed down pulled in behind the passed me on the left while suggesting I was number 1 in his book.
I still had just as many a-holes roll up on the back of me and ride my bumper, only to jump over, pass on the left while cursing me or flipping me off, one actually pulled back into the right just to brake check me, of course he hit the gas again when he realized I was not going to play his game and hit my brakes too. I would have ate through that prius like a hot knife through soft butter.

My conclusion is this.
Since it makes no difference what lane Im in when I do the speed limit, I might as well hang in the left and avoid the merge process.

seems that the a-holes really dont want to play the game like they say.

Check out this link that explains the law of impeding traffic. The only thing it does not say is how far the person has to be going below the speed limit. It sounds like it doesn't matter if its 1mph or 10mph if they are impeding the normal flow of traffic they can be ticketed.

and yet, it is also clearly written that the posted speed is the maximum.
everything you post that shows some law or rule on lane blocking is valid only up to the exact posted limit.

Your link won't load so I'll ask.... does it quote Maryland law?

I think it is an intimidation thing, they think if they run up on you then you will feel obligated to get out of the way. Like I have said previously I don't condone this or tailgating. My whole argument is based on etiquette and this is poor etiquette as far as I am concerned. No matter how much a slow driver may pizz me off I don't let my anger get the better of me. It is not worth putting myself in a situation where I crash into them or one of us is injured. I just fight my anger and go home and kick my dog.:killingme

The problem with that thought process is, wether he brake checked you or just plain ol' came to a dead stop in the road in front of you; had you hit him in the ass-end, you would be liable. THAT'S the part that SUCKS.

That, and the one's that cut you off to get; let's say; from the far right lane, to the left turn lane, are the reasons why I want to get my hands on a dash camera. So, I have video proof when some dipsh*t cuts me off and I push him down the road for doing so.

It deals with MD law. It's a law firm in Glenn Bernie; however, it doesn't lend any further support in favor of the ticket that was written in this case. Two MPH below the max speed limit is within the margin of error on a speedometer.
