 That'd make crossing the media in traffic jams less problematic.

Look people, while you have great fun at my expense I sincerely appreciate every one's input. This is truly evolving in an intelligent fashion which I find rather...icky...at first, instead of just acting and be unhappy later but, as this starts to bare fruit, I kinda like this whole process. :buddies:

I do understand I have a completely unrealistic view of what power is. However, boys and girls, I like it!

HD's and GW's, it seems, are out because, I think, I am not going to be happy running to town for the bank, a few groceries, just to lunch, etc due to the harbor pilot restrictions operating in parking lots. I can only see liking them on the highway. At this point.

I would suppose the Kawi is just fine quality wise and, like my power expectations, have been severely distorted in comparison.

Thank!

I use my HD as a commuter, bank, grocery and run around bike. You kind of get used to it and for running around it handles like a mini-bike.

There are also nearly every HD rider does to improve performance, breather, tuner, high flow pipes (not loud) that give them a significant bump in power.

My perfect bike would be the Concours (sport/tour style) with the 'Busa engine and a switch that makes it 200 pounds heavier once on the highway.

And belt drive.

K1200GT (used) or the K1300GT (new) 150+ HP (I think that's right) seating position like the Concours. SMOOOOOOTH shaft drive.

The K1200S (same engine/drivetrain as the K1200GT) holds two speed records both recorded the same day, by the same rider on the Bonneville flats. Top speed for stock bike in the 1200CC class of 174 MPH then he picked up a passenger and set the record for two up at 169 MPH.

Try one out, and let me know how you like it after you catch your breath.

See, there's no such thing as a free lunch, Larry. Who woulda thunk you could have a + 20 page thread with literally every type of rider, and no flames, just the occasional poking with a stick:duel:

Funny, for me, while in a car, "ludicrous power" is just about right, I don't feel that need in a bike. Although, that might be because even my wimpy bike can match my ludicrously powered cars acceleration.

It ain't the speed for me. I'll never get to those speeds. I only cracked 100 for a a little bit yesterday. It's the power, the 60, twist, smooth up to85, up hill, without down shifting that turned me on.

You usually get one with the other.

To get the kind of HP to do that, you'll also get the HP to go faster than the speed of pain.

Ok, they are big bikes, but not THAT big! No different getting on a 650 to run to the store as it is to get on the Goldie and do the same thing. Still have to park in a full car slot, and you even have enough storage for a decent grocery run. I really enjoy taking mine down the back roads here with lots of smooth turns, it can still be a fun bike to play on as long as you realize how much weight you're pushing. And when you want to take that long ride, same bike, same feel, same controls, same comfort level rather than switching to another bike (and the reverse gear is really handy....).

And I like to think I'm pretty good on mine, but there is no way I'd EVER consider trying to outperform a sport bike on the Dragon! :lmao: Hell, not even the Blue Ridge!

And yes, Larry, you are good for a poke or two...

Dehydration?

It was cold and windy Wednesday, nearly 300 miles and yesterday I felt like CRAP.

I actually thought I was suffering appendicitis and nearly decided to the hospital my abdomen hurt so bad. but no fever.

Also, chills and sweating, slept all day.

Ride day started with coffee, lunch was two glasses unsweetened ice tea. That was it, all day.

Thoughts? I still ain't right but, worked today. Dehydration mess you up that bad? :buddies:

Sure can. Water is super critical to the myriad chemical processes your body uses to keep things going, gotta keep it going. Riding, with evaporation, its easy to not realize how much you lost.

More than likely.. 300 miles, so at least 6 hours in the sun and wine.. on Coffee (not good) and tea (also not good).... Definitely not enough fluids, and not the right type of fluids. Be very careful because once you feel thirsty or "feel dehydrated" it's too late to catch back up.

I used to get dehydrated fairly often. Hard lesson to learn. Even now I don't stop often enough, have two camel backs and keep forgetting to take them with me on long rides.

:yeahthat: I read up a bit on the ironbutt site before I did the ride to Alabama. At every gas stop, I peed and drank a whole sports drink. They said that if you're not peeing, you are starting to get dehydrated.

Post office, empty parking lot. EMPTY parking lot. Except for one motorcycle.

I'm walking out to boogie on to my next stop on this glorious day and here comes this car, just GOTTA park next to me and comes within, oh, about a foot of clipping the back of the bike. I just stand there and watch.

Un real.

No one else even tried to get close today. Looped all over the outskirts of Frederick. Must be a set up.

Almost bought my first bird today. He slammed on the breaks and 180'd last second. I just laughed. Nothing interesting, just a startling or something.

Squirrels do that to me all the time. You look at them and try to decide whether or not he'll make the run for it..... Always a last second decision.

learning to use the horn and flashers as reflexively as breathing and preparing to...lighten the front end...as I run him down.

First night ride. Short, sweet and...buggy.

Serious fish bowl feeling, sux passing cars because I can't see the shoulders for that instant. Other than that, good stuff!

What are you riding?

Windshield goes up at night to keep the bugs at bay, and I upgraded to HIDs on the RT.. I light up the road in front of the cars in front of me, and to the side is phenomenal.

I have motolights on the brake clipers but since adding the HIDs haven't bothered to turn them on again.

One thing to think about at night, don't outdrive your lights.
