Buell opinions?

That's where all the greese and oil that drips off of cars stopped at the intersection will collect which makes it very easy to turn

State says; "The oily strip in the center portion is usually no more that two feet wide, unless it is also wet, the center provides adequate traction..."

State says center is where you are supposed to be most of the time unless there is a danger to your right or left.

REALLY?? Center of the lane you're invisible to oncoming traffic if there is traffic in front of you.. Also possibility of an obstacle in your line of travel that the car in front of you won't have to avoid because they are going to straddle it.. LIKE a GINORMOUS and DEEP pothole from DOT hell.

Follow in their tire track and if there is an obstacle you have to worry about, they'll give you a hint when they bob and weave to miss it too.

I was always taught to stay to the left in your lane.. and I BELIEVE MSF teaches the same.

I'm not in search of the part of the road with "adequate" traction, I seek out the part of the road with the best traction..

So, I found that phone pole laying in the field no one could remember where it was.

Going pretty slow and had my first crash where I basically walked off the bike and held the clutch in and got off the throttle at the same time. No stall, went to one knee and pretty much right back up though the bike did go all the way to the ground. The dance of crash. Very, very graceful, slick log, 60 degree angle or so...

Try that with your Road Wing Gold King thingy. Ha.

I have a 2007 Buell XB12S Lightning and I LOVE it. It's the first bike I've owned, so I just may not know any different. While scanning the thread I noticed someone mentioned "hot legs and ass" and yes, that's kind of a problem. Reason is, the fan they have on the engine to cool it vents right under the seat and heats up your thighs. If you roll up to me at a stop light and I've been riding a bit, you'll see me doing a funny little "tap dance" thing. It's not because I'm a retard, so much as my legs are burning up. That's really the only negative I have about the bike.

Good luck!

Most comical fall I had was riding very slowly down a hill with tall grass to get to a dirt road. I didn't realized until it was to late that there was about a three foot vertical drop. In slow motion I went over the edge, balanced with my rear wheel in the air and front on the gound and slowly tumbled over on my back.

I was wearing shorts and it was damn warm when I squeezed the gas tank a la dirt bike rider!

I really like my V Strom added some handlebar risers and an aftermarket seat and it's quite comfy for long distance riding. It's also available with a 650cc engine.
I've been looking at the new (to the U.S.) NT700V from Honda. $6k less than the ST1300 and a shaft final drive.

Are you happy with the 1000cc? How big are you?

I'm 6', 200 lbs with a 32" inseam.
It's very tall
I've lowered it a couple of inches and with a Corbin seat, I'm still tip toeing at lights.
The 1000cc power is awesome, but I've got to short shift the first couple of gears to keep the front end on the ground. If St. Mary's finest were less forgiving of maintaining a positive speed differential, I'd be doing a lot of community service.
6th gear is a highway overdrive, less than 70 mph and it's bogging down.

The Honda NT700v is looking like my next bike. The 1K V Strom has more power than I need and because it's there I tend to use it

Yeah, you can tell when the tank is getting low. It seems to get warmer the lower the fuel level gets (again, this likely has something to do with the fan vent). Sucks on a really hot day, but is rather welcome when it's chilly out.

At 6' 2" and 1/2 of that is legs so, I sit totally comfortable on the V.

So, you are not in the '1200 cc or more' camp that says I'll outgrow a smaller engine in short time?

I suppose it's not really much better at highway speed either?

It's not the cc's unless you're a Harley rider (sorry, but it's true). A 250...sure, you'll outgrow it. 600+ depends on the bike.

Depends on the engine
Cruiser engines seem to have been designed to make a lot of noise, a little power, are slow revving with heavy flywheels to about 5000 rpm and need large displacements.
600cc inline 4 cyl sport bikes will rev to 15000+ rpm and make 100+ hp.
I'm in between with a 9700 rpm redline and the bike is rated at 96 hp

I own the little brother to APs bike, the 650 version of the Vee, commonly called the "Weestrom":) I'm a little under 200lbs, and it hauls me just fine. Of course, I'm much less demanding on bikes than I am cars.

Ive yet to find a situation where the 650 is too slow.

I got a 650 for a service loaner one time (not the WeeStrom though) and it sounded like it was in pain when i was trying to reach my normal cruising speed.

Current bike has never sounded like it's broke a sweat, even two up.
