Hey, Apps, the graphics look good. Saw you and your passenger on Chancellors Run maybe an hour ago as the boy and I were riding our bikes down to the Quikie Mart.

But those are thumper riders, correct? I know I'm at 5,200 with a 10,500 redline.

Yes, althought they kept the same moniker for the new 650 too, and not for sure how it works, but it;s the same motor that's in the 800 and it's a twin.

Haven't ridden either of those yet.

Ok, but, it's a Harley. If they say it's 883 cubic inches, it's 883 cubic inches.

That would be a 14.5 liter engine. Don't think I'd want to sit on a V twin that big

Saw you guys on the other side of the road. Boy's new bike jacket came today and he had to try it out

Alternate Basic Rider Course day has finally arrived! I get to tool around a parking lot all day on a Rebel proving my mad skills! I can only hope it has a sissy bar and sparkle colored grip streamers and, if there truly is a God, it will say "Barbie' on the tank as I learn to whistle 'Born to Be Wild!"

Backwards.

My first MSF course, back in 86, both instructors had big dressers, one Wing, one big Yamaha, the Venture, I think.

They laid out the handling course, sportbike guy looked at and said no way, couldnt be done. Without a word, the Venture guy hopped on his bike, whipped through it, followed by the Goldwing.

"If we can do it on these, you should be be able to"

Now ask them about the experienced riders "box", and if that doesn't get you nervous ask about the rider instructor box..

We did two boxes, one to start and then a tighter one. The tigher one was for the test.

They told us that the control box, the part where we needed to exhibit slow speed control and take at least 10 seconds to transit, something like 20 yards or so, the police have to do it in five minutes.

Keep your eyes on the horizon, keep the revs up (gyro effect), slip the clutch (it ain't yours) and ride the rear brake

Biggest things I learnt yesterday. :buddies:

My problem now is 'what is looking too far away'? Getting used to the sensations of looking well ahead in a turn and fearing how much is too much lean is in my head right now.

If I had the time I would like to do the instructors course but it is like 3 days and you have to travel for it.

It takes time. The biggest thing to remember is wherever you are looking is where you go. Ever wonder how a bike rider hits a tree when there was ample space to miss it? They get out of control, start getting it back and are looking for obstacles and see a tree and stare at it thinking "Don't hit that" and guess what.......right to what you are looking at.

Excuses. The world is full of 'em.

I happen to think you'd be a good instructor, chief.

The guys I took the class with yesterday ALL had street experience, one guy 25 years. Another guy got asked after class to come instruct. I was the only one there with zero street and I was not the worst rider there. I saw guys struggle with some stuff and other guys tighten up when it was 'go' time, when it counted, including Mr. 25 years.

One guy, our Joe Kewl Mr. Born to Be Wild told me after one exercise he felt like our bikes handled like dirt bikes. I burst out laughing. They handled like pigs in 3 feet of mud to me, one of only two current dirt bike riders.

Both of them could ride fine, all of them, and one instructors told us we were the best class he's ever had but, point being, I think EVERYONE improved their skills, worked on bad habits, etc. It sunk in to me just how dangerous this is and how skill and experience is like feeling good; can;t get too much of it.

I'd take the class again tomorrow. :buddies:
