lol, welcome to my rants. Best thing we ever did was kill Metrocrap for TV and went with DirecTv. Can't see our antenna, our HOA knows the laws, no issue there.

Had to keep Metrocrap for internet, just about the only choice available unless you want to pay for satellite internet.

A few years ago we were told by a few installers that we cannot have a dish because our tree line it too high or something crazy like that.

It's called satellite TV because you're receiving a signal from a satellite in orbit above the equator.
Put a tree between you and the satellite and you won't get a signal

Where can you stream NFL games?

We stream from Direct TV online, a subscription special through Amazon that my husband got when he ordered the last Madden game. Justin TV and First Row Sports are supposed to be pretty good rebroadcasts, too, for online streaming but it's hard to keep up with internet streaming sites each year. The Department of Homeland Security often shuts them down.

Right, I understand that, but I don't know that I totally believe that about our specific townhouse. My husband told me that, like, at least 5 years ago. Our neighbors have dishes. When I asked about them, he told me that they don't get HD channels (yes, that's a no-go issue in our house). He's very picky about our tv setup, which is not limited to just the channels but also the associated electronics, lighting, and living room seating. I don't think he appreciates my questioning anything in relation to it. That's what's really behind the "or something crazy like that".

Speaking of Metrocast tv, we just called about ours again to adjust our channels. Our bill, if we were to leave it all alone (which we're not), is expected to increase about $10 in 2014.

I'm sure we all expected it but just in case anyone forgot that it's that time of year again.

Yep, many HOAs put that in, some know it's not a legal prohibition, but hope you dont know that.

and most of the time they are meant to discourage the large, in yard dishes from a bygone era, not the small antenna today.
I think our HOA has the same clause and nobody has said squat about the dish on our roof - or any of the dozens in the community.

more accurately if you are the only bidder for the exclusive rights...
Not sure how much money the county gets in return. They may only get the public access channel(s) (which nobody watches).

Some places, the wording specifically mentions even the smaller ones. Even though such wording cannot be legally enforced. And in places, it has already been shot down, but nobody has bothered to change that wording, they just dont enforce it.

I hate HOA's. Had to deal with them a few years ago and now happy to have my freedom back! Don't need a bunch of old a$$ busy bodies in my space.

There is supposed to be one for the five house road, but I cant find anyone with a copy :coffee:

"2013 Maryland Code

Universal Citation: MD Real Prop Code § 11B-113 (2013)

(a) Location. -- There is a homeowners association depository in the office of the clerk of the court in each county and the City of Baltimore."

§ 11B-113 - Homeowners association depository :: 2013 Maryland Code :: US Codes and Statutes :: US Law :: Justia

Something told me there had to be a centralized point for these things as you have to be given them when buying a house in a HOA community.

in most locales, the HOA has taken the place of even local government to provide services such as trash collect, road repairs, common grounds upkeep and snow removal (streets). In short, I consider my dues a tax since they pay for the services once provided by the local government.
That's why they have been pushed on us by state and local governments.
The sales pitch is they help maintain property values.
But they also involve people, which tends to be why they suck.
On the other hand, if not for HOA rules your neighbor might build a trash pile in their backyard or do something outrageous that would kill property values

Bought 2 HDTV "ready" sets as gifts recently. Retailer assured me they were compatible, no converter boxes needed. I returned them on the 26th. I loathe Metrocast. They can suck it.
How is that Metrocast's fault??

Both of my TV's are supposed to be QAM ready too but I still needed the DTA's.

And if you have a digital DVR, you don't need the DTA's.

I've never had an issue with Metrocast and have always received superior customer service.

Price gauged....:killingme

Metrocast gives you (2) free DTA's for your TV's.

PARDON ME, price GOUGED (as in pricing above the market price when no alternative retailer is available). They do NOT give you ANYTHING free, silly man. We have "smart tv's" and this provides the same cable quality as a hotel room. There are no labels for the channels, no description of what is on. This service reminds me of what I had in 1990 or something. For the amount I am paying for cable, I should be able to at least know what CHANNEL I'm watching.:buttkick:

Seriously, go with Direct TV.
Screw the HOA. Do what you want and please let us know how it turns out. OK?

PS. I went to court fighting my HOA in the CRE.
Long story but,
I lost.

not impressed
ok, so I ended up going with Metrocast because there is a clause in the HOA here saying no satellite for tv... that being said, this is the crappiest cable I have EVER had in my life! Seems like they have a total monopoly and that isn't fair for the people of Leonardtown. Are there options that I am not aware of? I'm going to ask the HOA for permission because the back of our house is not visible to anybody; it backs into a steep hill. I'm being price gauged! And they don't even give you a box for the "extra rooms" unless you pay them some $20 extra per month rental fee... so we can't even get all the digital channels and there are no labels on the channels so you have no idea what you are watching!! SO ANNOYED!

may have already been mentioned, i haven't read all the replies but that is against federal law. I easily got my HOA rules changed once I showed them this Over-the-Air Reception Devices Rule | FCC.gov
