Don't know???? I am just saying, you are the only one allowed to ##### about response times.

I think her complaint is more valid than yours was, if what she says is true.

AK..you drunk again tonight or just high as usual?

People watching all this and no one did anything to help..execpt dial 911...
And complaining because they were not rescued for 2 1/2 hours?
If the parents were attentive..there would not have been a rescue.
If the kids had been trained in water safety, no rescue.
If someone did something right away. no need to wait 2 1/2 for someone else to rescue 4 idiot kids!

My point is you complaining about a car not being stopped < 5 minutes after it was called in.

All other things aside she complained about a 2 1/2 hour response time. Her complaining set you off, yet you standby that the police should of done something in less than the amount of time it takes to travel a few miles on rt. 4?

Hypocriacy if I have ever seen it.

Sure did..learned to swim before I could get a bike...we all did..
Lived right by the big Atlantic Ocean.....
And I knew well enought to wear a life jacket when in a boat...
Started sailing at age 8..on a Sunfish.....
Had a fiberglass row boat with a 25hp on it.

Besides, this is not about me, but some mommy complaining about the slow response time ..
Had she supervised her kids, taught them bacis water safety, this would not be an issue.

Take responsibility for your kids and their actions. Be an adult and be a parent.

Sounds like we had very similar childhood experiences. Kids? one of them was 18yo and the other was 15yo. How much do you have to supervise them? I think they have outgrown the booster chair and the baby leash.

Read it again, but this time try to comprehend it:

There were 4 dumb kids (1 of mine) on the rowboat, the waves were filling the boat it bagan to sink so they jumped! The other kids on the beach could not get through to 911, one ran home called 911, the other teens were scared and began to jump in to try and save their friends and (my other son) brother.

Others tried to rescue the kids, but ended up needing rescue themselves.

Stinkpen, you claim you were a firefighter in a previous life. Where did you learn that untrained civilians should attempt to effect a rescue they are not qualified to perform? Doesn't that frequently end up with more victims?

This was called in as a water rescue...the first problem is that when you make a call from this beach it does not connect to Calvert County it connects across the bay, so it took 4 calls with a bunch of transfers and 3disconnects to even get the call through to Calvert and then it was called in as a water rescue. When the fire department arrived they did not know what to do.... and for this very reason THEY NEED TO PRACTICE WHATEVER IT IS THAT THEY DO WHEN THERE IS A WATER RESCUE. This could have been very tragic all the while 40 emergency response personnel did not even get their feet wet. I had NO CLUE that this was a water rescue when I saw the fire truck I thought that someone had started a bonfire on the beach and maybe the woods had caught fire. The Emergency people knew what this call was about and they did not even have binoculars so that they could see the 4 kids in the water, with there (the kids) ignorance, lack of respect for the water and the water current itself, they could not be seen. They were way down the beach 1/2 a mile?? and way out in the water 1/2 a mile or so. The DNR guy said that they were a little over a mile out. While the emergency team stood at the top of the cliff looking out at the bay I ran down the hill and was asking people that were on the beach where are the kids and was told by 1 of the firemen that they did not know and to come back up the hill I responded that they were not up the *$#&%&%^ hill. I looked to the right of the beach and saw nothing abnormal so I began to run to the left and THANK GOD there was a 4 wheeler and he gave me a ride down the beach. I want to "Thank God" for watching over all these kids
(all 10 of them) as not one emergency person that responded to this emergency call got their feet wet. They brought a rope that was all knotted up and could not be unknotted to even find out if it was long enough. As it turns out the emergency raft that was brought to the seen COULD NOT be launched as there was NO PLUG and it would sink! Thank God North Beach responded and yes it did take a long time but they are not the closest station and they were not the first responders PRINCE FREDERICK took charge and this really showed that they are not prepared. The Emergency Responders in Prince Frederick need to practice water emergency rescue. There was nothing I could do as I never took any Emergency Response class and I did not respond as an Emergency Responder. The guy with the 4 wheeler was told to get his 4 wheeler off of the beach another gentleman from the neighborhood came down on his 4 wheeler and gave the 1 (17) year old that was literly turning blue and an emergency person a ride back up to the parking lot and he was given a ticket for having his 4 wheeler down on the beach. (To the Neighbor that did this I want to say THANKS for doing the neighborly thing and helping get that child to the ambulance he was turning blue, shivering and suffering from hypothermia) Lord knows that with all the emrgency help that was there NOT ONE Emergency Person attempted to help get this child back to the ambulance. (They were letting him walk) Another teen a 17 year old girl that made it out thanks to the assistance of the kids NOT THE ADULTS was then assisted by emergency helpers and when the emergency team attempted to take her blood pressure the CUFF WOULD NOT WORK! EXPLAIN THAT! That Good Thing is that Everyone is safe, The down fall is our Responders need to be able to do more, or at least do what they are trained to do, for God's sake why weren't there any life saving rings brought down. I don't know.... I only know there were Angels on the beach on May 26 looking after these kids. There is 1 kid who is training at the Prince Frederick Fire Department and he has been suspended for 30 days for going into the water and rescueing the 17 year old that had hypothermia! To All involved I Sincerely Hope that a few big lessons were learned, to the kids in the boat THAT WAS PLAIN STUPID, and THANK GOD they know and have been given a second chance. For the kids that jumped in to rescue their friends You all did what no other adult did that day and attempted and did save the others. For my son that was on the boat that capsized he continues to say that he thought he was done and if it hadn't of been for his brother coming to his rescue he would have given up. For the guys on the 4 wheelers you know you did what was right! For the police that ticketed the 4 wheeler I hope you are never in need of 4 wheeler assistance. For the people that brought the emergency raft I hope you find the dam plug or throw that raft away, it is of no use to anyone. And for all the other responders that didn't do anything I am Thankful for you all choosing to go this route and volunteer for these departments, I just hope the departments involved have learned through these mistakes that could have been really tragic and will get you all the proper training.

Hi June and welcome. :flowers:

Being a parent of 3 kids, two being teenagers, I understand. They manage to find mischief no matter what, just as myself as a teenager. And to your defense, I listened to that entire rescue and you are correct, it was A LOT of confusion. But.....at the same time.....no excuse I might add....

There was I believe an attempted suicide in the same location

There was also another water rescue going on in Western Shores.

But I have always said and asked why does it take soooo long to get these boats out when we live by all this water? There shouldn't be any excuse for the delays it takes for water rescues.

So on that note, I am glad your kids are fine.

:yeahthat:

I grew up surrounded by water on Long Island and was always at the beach, out on boats, jetskiis, etc. When I was 18 and my brother was 15, Mommy and Daddy were no longer chaperoning us. Hell, when I was 15 and my brother was 12 they didn't hold our hand as we walked across the street either. These are not children, they are teenagers who make mistakes. The bay water can be pretty choppy at times. Should they have been wearing life vests? Absolutely, without a doubt. But the parents of an 18 and a 15 year old shouldn't be crucified for not chaperoning their grown boys. Who does that at their ages?

Agreed it sounds like they need to get their act together. Thankfully all turned out ok. It wouldn't have mattered if your teenagers are "water oriented/trained". Kids of that age think themselves invincable and will make rash decisions. You can't hold their hands forever and it's this time in their lives to make mistakes. They're fortunate it ended in this way.

Inkpen - lay off, the woman knows they're lucky. They're kids-they make poor judgements and in this case they should have made sure there were life jackets for all in the boat. I'm sure they'll remember now! You can't stand over them, nor should you, at 18 and 15. She mearly said that 2hrs was a long wait for rescue, IT IS!

look if you dont know the facts about what happened then dont get in the middle of it. Not one of the victims or the rescuers needed to be rescued themself. i was the one boy that saved the 17 year old and got suspended from the fire department. i was the second one in the water. so if you want to say that we were a buch of dumb kids then you need to think again. because it was the dumb kids that saved the other kids while the fire department watched from the beach. When i had to goto the hospital i was not worried about myself even though i could not breath i was worried about the boy i saved, not once did i worry about my health i just wanted to make sure that he made it. i got suspended from the fire house for a "unsafe act" or putting my life in danger. Is'nt that what a fire fighter does? so if you want to get nasty with somebody well here i am. i was there the fire department did nothing

I'm pretty sure your suspension isn't going to be temporary. Way to back up your team :yay: I'm sure they all just sat around laughing and pointing didn't they.

While I commend your selflessness (is that a word?), no... putting yourself in danger is not what a fireman does. You're there to assist the victims and those of your team in as safe a manner as possible. Which I'm sure you've been told and don't need to hear from me.

Thankfully you and all others have recovered and there was a good ending.
You're still young and with more experience you will probably change your view of this.

when they tell a boy that has been in the water for over 3 hours that barely had any strenght to grab my hand that he has to walk a mile back to the amublance is that assisting the victim. The people from the neighborhood are the only ones that did something. when the whole neighborhood watches as the fire department sits and watches as six kids jump in the water somethings wrong. the fire department is trying to say that i got there after the fact and told them that i was getting in the water whether they liked it or not when i one of the ones that called 911. i had to have my 13 year old brother thats way smaller then me carry me to the ambulance when there was 2 fire fighters right behind me. So yeah they did help if that what u want to think.

Okay after reading these past couple threads, I get the feeling that yall feel the FD's in Calvert County dont want to go out in the water????? Company 1, 3, 4, and the Dive Team are usually the only Companies in the County that have water rescue training, I could be wrong.... When we run a water rescue in PG County, we send a Engine, Ambulance, Medic Unit, Special Service, 3 Dive Teams, EMS Duty Officer, Safety Officer and a Battalion Chief. Depending on the incident, the Engine, Ambulance, Medic and Special Service will remain on land and stay on land in case they are needed. In some cases the Engine and Special Service companies do have water rescue equipment on board and will assist the Dive Team units, but most of them will remain on land. Let the divers and water rescue personnel do their job.

I'm not familiar with a zodika but a Zodiak isn't going to sink.
How old are you?
