Can a religion be "evil?"

I'm tired of being "young" and "stupid." Case closed, I'm out for the night to return to hell one again tomorrow.

From my view point...Yes, You should have "All" faith in God. Zero faith in Religion. Religion was created by man and it is faulty. Religion is skewed... Religion is by all counts evil.

I won't go that far, Kain, but you make a great point about religion being a human creation.

I don't belong to an organized religion for the same reason I don't belong to a political party---I HATE any kind of self-righteousness and judgmentality. "We're right and you're wrong!" "We're better than you!" "You don't deserve to live!" "You're going to hell!" How dare they presume to set themselves above the rest of the human race.

Isn't there a phrase in the Bible that says something along the lines of "If you divorce yourself from the church, you divorce yourself from God." ?

I don't go to church much either. I go when I'm with my gf 'cause she enjoys it so much, but I'm pretty happy with just saying my nightly prayers of thanks.

But someone said this to me the other day, and I'm wondering what the context is.

Because I’m at work, and don’t have much time to fart around with a long, drawn out response to this thread, nor do I have the time to read through the posts (at this time) I will add my two cents on some quick topic touching

One – I’m going to agree with Christy. I was raised Roman Catholic and found out the hard way that Catholicism is probably one of the many reasons so many people stray away from Christ. They (Catholicism) have done a lot to push their laws and rules on people, instead of Christ’s laws (which is a no-no btw). Catholicism and Christianity are sort of the same thing, but at the same time are completely different.

Two – being a former wiccan, myself, I will tell you a lot of what I saw. I’ve seen both sides of the wicca… the good and the bad… Me and my “friends” were wiccans but we all believed things completely different than every one else, which mean we weren’t even in a same belief system, but called ourselves wiccan… one belived in a form of buddah, while one believed that he was a close minion of the living Anti-Christ, and was a vampire, and another believed that it was okay to mix Christianity and wicca (he called himself a chricinan). None of us had any real belief system except our own, that we made up, which is a basic form of Anarchy. The group ended up backstabbing each other in an attempt to push their beliefs on each other and it split up more than an eight people “friendship”. I read all the “basic” wiccan books, and had my own deck of tarot cards, and a book of shadows and a bottle of “holy water” that was created in a ritual during the full moon and all the other wiccan blah blah crap but it didn’t make me feel whole – I still felt lost in a world that I had basically created

Becoming wiccan isn’t an answer to being choked by Catholicism, it’s a drug that will drain you of yourself and create something that isn’t really a person but just a shell.

I can say wicca won’t make you happy because I was there and never saw a single happy person. Wiccans are bleak and depressing because they make themselves that way. So many wiccans commit suicide because they force themselves into this whole that they believe they have to be in and at the bottom of the barrel, its dark

I appreciate your experience with wicca. Its sad in this post-modern age that one can't accept a warning from someone unless they have made that mistake before...hence the wish by our new 17 year old who refuses to hear cautions against a self-destructive "belief."

My guess is that your experience may still be ignored because "everyone is different and I will be able to do it right."

Are you aware of any literature that could help out someone who wants to walk down that same road?

I have always wanted to be Wiccan, but was always scared that the 'rents would dissapprove. I moved in the neighborhood I live in now when I was 8. There was a girl down the street who was 12, and she was Wiccan, and still is. She is 17 today. We would hang out, and she would do her ritual, and she had lots of books, so I read those, watched her do ritual and we talked about it and I really liked it, since my family never went to Church, and we still don't. But you know, I was 8- I knew it would be crazy for mom to discover me doing ritual at that age so I put it on the back burner for a few years...always thought about it, and when I was older (11/12) I started researching it online and met a few people who were into it, and it has always caught my interest. My friend is very happy with it, and her older brother is Wiccan, too. Their parents are Christian though, but they're carefree and wanted them to do what they wanted belief-wise. I have always been around this, and I guess I grew onto it. I feel connected to the Earth, and I want to be a part of it. I'm not going to have people make decisions for me and tell me not to go down this path. Everyone is different, and you all haven't met EVERY Wiccan on the face of the Earth. This area sucks anyways....

what does that really mean to you? "connected to the earth" does your friend drive a car? if so, isn't that destructive to the balance of things?

You're right, I can't make the decision for you, but I can offer advice on the situation you're going to be sticking yourself in... i'm telling you to live from others mistakes because you'll never live long enough to make them all yourself...

Black metal fan, eh? I've heard of them but never listened to them. My metal listening is generally limited to Judas Priest, Halford and old Metallica.

The band's bio sounds like they read a lot of H.P. Lovecraft:

The cradle is rocking, the dead are rising, the seas will boil and the skies will fall. As the world stands poised on the edge of mass destruction, the freaks, fools and monsters who rule us are about to be taught a real lesson in the use of power...

The five Horsemen of the Apocalypse fed on the blood of Doug Cook who was unwittingly drafted in to co-produce and engineer the album. ..Cradle sucked the knowledge out of their hapless victim and used his withered shell of a body to help direct them in their quest to create the darkest album they could possibly imagine, before disposing of his corpse in a ritualistic shooting. The bullet still lays lodged in his face. The corpse of course has never been found...

So go forth and cut out the tongues of the unbelievers, lay waste to the trash that assaults our ears every day, for that is merely a smoke screen to numb your minds from the truth, and beg forgiveness for your past sins. For if you don't, you're f***ed.

Thanks Willie for bringing us back to the thread...

Related question...I can sort of understand the Palestinian anger at israel and the US...especially if they only hear what is being spewed by the Radical Clerics...thus they turn to suicide bombs on teen agers and blowing up school busses. We recoil in shock and ask...why are they so angry???????

Well, here we have an example among us...13 years old, so angry and bitter, listening to the most hostile garbage available and nihilistic....living in a country that is open, abundant, blessed, wealthy, and yes free...so of the two scenarios offered:

Which ballistic anger is harder to comprehend? and what caused it?...This was the same repugnant anger that was spewed at Columbine >>why?

No reason to get sick of everyone here. You gotta realize that to post on this forum you gotta have thick skin... and you gotta be able to stand up for yourself in ways other than insults...

You seem like a smart person. Just toughen up.

I have a problem with being emotionally sensitive- I take critisizm too personally, and I cannot control it, don't know why. And for the record, I'm 14, not 13 :cussing:

Naw, most metal bands that claim to be Satanist or sing about death are only doing it to be rebellious. It's all a pose. And 99% of the kids who listen to death metal or black metal know that. Just like 99% of the people who watch WWE know that it's all an act. And as for the 1% who take it seriously, well, Dennis Miller once said, "If your kid is capable of being pushed over the edge by anything Gene Simmons has to say, you're just not doing your job as a parent."

The guitarist for Primus used to play in the metal band Possessed, and he was embarrassed when that band's album turned up on Geraldo's special report on Satanism. He said Possessed's members weren't Satanic, but just a bunch of drunken suburban kids trying to be heavy.
