Beat me to it, don't knowwhich "company" it was, but same results. Definitely not as advertised.

There are plenty of other retail options. I put "company" in quotes because I get the idea these are independents, not illegal, but they definitely seem to put on a high pressure sales pitch for low quality goods.

BTW, if you want to want frozen, talk to the butcher - maybe Nick's. Sometimes they can package the meat and flash freeze it better than we can at home.

Nick's - :yay:

It's the only butcher/meat shop I could think of.
Personally I find BJ's has good meat and some of it is vucum sealed so you can just drop it in the freezer.

And while Walmart makes me ill, their steaks are pretty good. Again, if you are buying to store in freezer, it's not a bad option if they are already sealed.

I recently picked up a membership at BJ's... is it me or am I not seeing great prices on the steak?

I picked up a bunch of Perdue, pre-packaged, Thin-Sliced Chicken breast and it went bad about 5 days prior to it's labeled expiration. Wasn't impressed with that. :ohwell:

Check the temp of your fridge. If your fridge isn't set cold enough raw chicken spoils faster. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the organic fed/raised boneless chicken breast they sell at BJs. It is a little bit more in cost that the Perdue chicken the the taste difference is very noticeable to me and now that's all I buy.

Beef prices are skyrocketing everywhere... :ohwell:

Whip out your phone and start recording next time.

They'll either leave right away, or you'll have them on video acting like an #######.

They came to my house today too. Two guys, in their twenties I would guess. He rolled his window down and I told him I was not interested and waved him on. His buddy rolled his window down started banging on his passenger side door and yelled something I couldn't make out. The driver started blasting his horn, shaking his head and pulled out of my driveway. Being I was about the same age, and pissed they acted so rude, I gave them the finger, expecting him just to flip me off back. Bad idea. Passenger rolled down his window called me a dumb broke B, they threw it in reverse and pulled back in my driveway. He asked if my boyfriend was home and yelled from his car 'what stops me from coming over there and beating the S out of you'. I remained silent and didn't comment,I made a huge mistake flicking them off from the get go. He eventually left, and I called the police. Their advice is to call if they show again and do not leave. Do not make the same mistake I did, be careful with these people, do not cop an attitude just call the police if you aren't interested and can't get them to leave.

WOW, those are real azz holes. From a quick internet search very similar stories I read about there pushy tactics. Some titles that I saw from too much to read.
Capital Meats - Terrible food
Capital Meats - pushy salesmen and bad products
Capital Meats - Frightened children
Capital Meats - Overpricing poor quality
Capital Meats - Soliciting
Capital Meats - failure to refund
Capital Meats - Sales Tactics
Capital Meats - Selling Practices
Capital Meats - Pushy salesmen
Capital Meats - Bad Meat

I will be sure to tell them they are ass holes for you if they come my way.

The guy told me his regular customer down the road wasn't home to get his order so he had this super deal for me. I said "don't you remember me? I fell for that exact line 3 years ago and it was lousy meat". He thanked me for my time and left.

I got the same line while at my parents house washing my truck. They kept bothering me and bothering me with stuff like we take credit cards, I don't have a credit card, we take checks, this isn't my house so I don't have checks here, we take cash, I have $50 on me if you can give me a box of filets, a box of T-bone's, and a box of hamburgers I will give you $50 (I got the whole "Don't tell anyone else I gave it to you that cheep" line). They made the deal but I had to give them $60 because I only had $20's on me but out of all that meat the only thing that tasted like it had any kind of quality was the hamburger. I gave all the meat to my parents but when I would stop by and my mom cooked up one of the filet's it was tough and chewy. In the future I will not buy from them and they shouldn't stop by my parents anymore because my dad threatened to call the cops and they left quickly.

I am thinking OP's post was more because of the unsolicited approach of the meat vendor as opposed to an inquiry about where to get good meat. But, for the record, I will also give my vote to Nick's of Clinton. Excellent quality.

That being said, these guys came to my house the other day. I guess I made the mistake of leaving my front door open behind the closed glass storm door. A younger guy (mid-20's) came to the door and gave me the same story as above that a neighbor wasn't home so he had a surplus of meat that he needs to offload ASAP. I said I wasn't interested and he sat there with puppy dog eyes and gave me a story about his boss was in town and he couldn't go back to the office with a full truck. I said "sorry" but I couldn't help him .......

..... and then directed him to my PITA neighbors door stating he'd likely be interested.

I'm going to pick this out of your story to rant about:

Why is it our job to avoid obnoxious sales aholes? I have no problem telling them to shove off in a manner that they do not argue with. The magazine kids honed this skill in me.

It's the same with those cockroaches that hit you up at the Wawa and Sheetz with their sob story about needing a couple bucks for gas. This is a perfect opportunity to take out the frustrations of your day. You are not required to even be polite to these people and MAN! does it feel good to put them in their place. Who needs a dog to kick when you have a perfectly good panhandler to kick?

I don't think the prices are better, but you can get a discount on quantity/bulk packages. Have never had a problem with meat or poultry.
We tend to buy and freeze. We will buy the large flat, break it down, vacum seal and freeze.

And while the OP wasn't asking for recommendations, it was a logical (in my mind) step from the "convience" of the door to door sales weasles to say go to a quality provider.
That if you want to store it in your freezer, go to a quality provider and they will often package it appropriately.
These guys that qo door to door all seem to have the same story, and part of that story is the convience of their packaging and shop at home service.
Problem is, when you find out the stuff isn't as good as advertised you can't even file a complaint.
What these door to door salesmen don't tell you is that you are buying a lot, based on the appearance of one sample.

When you go to the store, do you look at one package of meat, decide it looks good and then put it down and blindly pick another package out of the case to buy?

Food will also go bad faster if it has been sitting on the pallet at the store for restocking too long. I've had that problem with the meat at the Wildewood McKays and at the commissary with milk and salad greens in the containers. McKays refunded my money with just the receipt [I offered the to bring in the bad meat, but they said no that's ok] and I called the salad company, they sent coupons to replace it. I stopped buying milk at the commissary for a long time.

With the exception of their inconvenient timing I've never had a problem moving them along.

Just curious, you a guy or girl? Not sure if they were being sarcastic with the boyfriend comment or if they were threating a young lady?

I feel for the poor soul who would possibly talk to my wife like that. I'd bail her out the same day.

I've had the door to door meat salesmen approach me when I lived in Florida. Pretty much the same speech, "I was in the neighborhood dropping off a delivery, blah, blah, blah...." For what he was offering the price seemed quite high. Each No he tossed in a different item like a whole turkey or a whole ham. But that still didn't make it worth the money IMO.

I guess if you can buy $1,000 worth of meat then peddle it on the streets for $2,000 that is a good day. At least they are trying to make an honest buck, even if it means pissing off a lot of people. I'm sure there are dozens of folks that just can't say NO.

I'm a female. The last 2 years it's been an older gentleman that stopped by, who I've never had an issue with. He was always respectful, even when his offers were declined. This time it was 2 young men, with a completely different attitude.

Why can't you people just tell them to get off your property?

Maybe it's different if you have dogs.
