Chopticon HS makes national news

As I’m sure most of you are aware my son was one of the 7 involved w/ this prank. To say we are disappointed in his actions is an understatement. He made the poor choice to sneak out of the house, open the door after hours, and release the lady bugs w/ the rest of his friends. Which is why we said we would not plead to the superintendent/BOE to allow him to walk w/ his class. I am proud that my son apologized to the school & district for his actions in this prank and asked for their forgiveness. (to my knowledge he is the only one of the seven to do so) Obviously we were very upset he was unable to walk w/ the rest of his classmates but honestly we’re more concerned w/ the criminal side of this situation.

Thank you to those who have offered kind words and support.

I was hoping that they would let him walk. I think it's totally unfair that the other kid got to play in the baseball game. :huggy: Hope they drop the criminal charges as I think that's a bit over the top for what it was.

Don't be too hard on him. I'm sure he meant no harm.

You must be quite proud of his acceptance to USNA. I'm sure this prank will be a source for endless dinner table jokes over the next 100 years or so.

Now that the historically unsecure status of that door is even more widely known, perhaps the school will get around to fixing it now that the Ladybug 7 have put a national spotlight on it.

Since I do not know you personally in real life, I had no idea this was about your son. It's tough when our teens make choices we wouldn't have advised them to make. As a mom of a recent HS grad - BTDT.

Anyhoo, I just don't feel this rises to the level that the CHS Admin and BOE took. While it certainly needed to be addressed, I am on the side that feels the punishment does not fit the crime.

I also think it is outrageous that one gets to participate in the sports event, but one cannot walk with classmates at graduation. JMHO

He may have made a poor choice but no harm was done. It should have been all in fun and the charges, etc. are overkill (in my opinion). Hopefully, he'll get community service and stet docket and it won't be on his record. I'm sure he learned from this. I'm sure most of us made decisions at his age (I know I did) and just never got caught.

The school wanted their State Championship trophy, that's why. I think it's outrageous too and that's what should be all over the news.

If it was my kid... I would be making a little call to the news network/newspapers that covered the story.

"Hey Fox5.... wanna hear something funny as a follow up to the Chopticon ladybug incident....? :coffee:

Its got the makings of a perfect TV news story. IS the kid who was allowed to play of the non-Caucasian persuasion? If not... it might not gain traction. But if he is..... it will be a lead story!

I think Fox 5 already reported on it. I saw a clip with the one student saying "let me walk", saw a clip where they won the state championship and the student was allowed to play, etc.

It was already reported that he was allowed to participate.

The school decided to do punishments individually per student. I'm pretty sure they looked at my son as the ring leader for this prank. Even though he did not purchase the lady bugs he was the first one through the door. I can also imagine w/ 300+ students protesting at school and the BOE meeting they thought if they went back on their ruling future prank incidents would only increase.
