72,000 ladybugs is not harmless. Now the county is going to have to purchase at least 1000 birds to come in and eat the ladybugs. Then they'll have to get 500 cats to come in and eat the birds. Then 250 dogs to chase out the cats. Not to mention the mess all those insects and animals will make.

This is not a harmless prank.
I know an old lady who swallowed a ladybug....

Not sure if it has been said yet but that door has been broken since atleast 2000 when I went there. My brother said it was like that when he graduated in 96, He said there was a teacher that even told him just to come in that door and go to his locker when he forgot something.

I hope those parents sue

I thought the whole thing was pretty harmless. Not sure about the breaking and entering............ I wasn't there and don't know the whole story. Was the door open as others have stated? Or was it damaged as the report says? That's a tricky area.

Not sure why they didn't just release them during school hours.

I am perfectly willing to believe "officials" lied - police and school.

Yes. :huggy:

Come on people, lighten up. I seem to remember some of you on here pulling pranks as adults that could have gotten you a rap sheet if the prank was taken too seriously. So to all you goody 2 shoes. :neener:

I wonder every year this time what happened to the GMHS Seniors that pulled the Belvedere cow...

The only crime is only a handful of seniors took part. Nobody ever found the culprit that put a VW bug on the roof over the walkway out to the bus dock. Not sure how much it cost someone to get their car down.

Rumor around school is that the principle didn't want to press charges, the police did. I believe when they opened the door it set off an alarm. Are those silent alarms? I'm guessing depending on the type of alarm, when set, it would go off whether the door was locked or unlocked.

I doubt the Principal wants to address uncomfortable questioning about how long this door has been un-securable, and who at SMCPS knew it was un-securable. In all likelihood, the pranksters selected that particular door for entry into the school because it was common knowledge that it was essentially unlocked. If the door had been appropriately secured, they likely would have picked a different prank rather than actually "break" in.

It did kind of sound like you were saying that you knew and others didn't, and would be surprised when they did find out.

Anyhow, I think it's kind of cheesy to come onto the forum and announce it, though. I mean, if anyone who posts here knows the name of the student, and knows the parent(s), AND knows they post here AND makes all those connections, why would someone who is a friend want to blab it all out on a public forum? To embarrass?

You're making an assumption that the parents are embarrassed. A lot of people on here think it's impressive and amusing. The kid who was interviewed didn't seem ashamed of anything, he certainly could have avoided being interviewed and spared his name from being published.

I'm not assuming anything. I haven't read every word or seen every video of tbe event.

I was making the point that it SEEMED like she was posting in the "I know something you don't" mode. I merely asked why would someone do that. (Risking embarrassment to a friend, fellow poster, etc.)

Pull the stick out Beta. It was impressive and amusing and he shouldn't be ashamed. The kid took initiative, that should be commended. :neener: This is something that has been a tradition for many many years. It's not some random act of destruction.

I don't think it's fair their child doesn't get to walk, but all the others involved do. I think that's wrong.

The only problem I have with the whole thing is the B&E and the cost associated with the cleanup. It doesn't matter if the door was unsecure unless they had permission from a school official to be there. Just because a house has an unlocked door does not make it legal to enter the home without permission. As for the cost, if the ones involved offer to clean it up or pay to have it cleaned up I think they should be allowed to walk. I pulled a bunch of pranks when I was younger but none that required any money to fix or clean up. I can imagine this will cost a lot of money to clean especially if the bugs made it into the cafeteria because ladybugs crap every ware.

Cost of cleanup? Did they have to pay OT to janitors? No. Hire outside ladybug cleaners? No. The janitors are getting paid to be there anyway. I doubt there was any additional cleanup costs. Perhaps SMCPS will finally fix that door now that the whole country knows it's non-securable, and not just the students and staff.

In what world did I say anything that would indicate I condemned or condoned the actions? I responded to "why would someone who is a friend want to blab it all out on a public forum? To embarrass?" by merely stating that it didn't seem like the parents or the student were embarrassed by what took place. If they aren't embarrassed then I don't see the harm in SoMDGirl discussing it. I didn't imply they should or shouldn't be embarrassed. I didn't say the act was awesome or deplorable. In fact, I didn't comment on action whatsoever.

See...that's the thing about all these retarded "pranks". In the end, it's the custodial staff, some poor bastard getting paid 9 bucks an hour (maybe??) to clean up after these kids. Regardless of the prank, they're the ones who get screwed. Yeah, "they gotta be there anyway..." yada, yada... At my daughters school they filled all the sinks with cereal...really? Now they gotta go clean all the crap outta the sinks. Wrapped up the stair wells in cellophane...who's gotta clear that fire hazard?

If I were the Principle...guess who'd be cleaning up that mess...all the Seniors. But of course, then little Billy and Becky's parents would squawk all about how their kid had to do manual labor at school.

i understand your point with the "poor bastard" who has to clean things up, BUT I have worked with/ around more than one group of janitorial/ maintenance staff to have learned that if the prank is entertaining enough, they don't necessarily mind the clean up. Pulled a prank in college involving the changing of a sign to more accurately represent the student body's opinions. Found out several months later that the maintenance crew was in agreement and thought it was funny enough that they kept the sign and had it hanging in their shop.

Bann and I rarely agree on anything anymore and she took it EXACTLY how I did. She was quite tacky in how she posted it. If she truly wanted to keep the boy and his parents anonymous, then she would not have felt the need to post what she did and the amount of times that she did it.
