Cost of cleanup? Did they have to pay OT to janitors? No. Hire outside ladybug cleaners? No. The janitors are getting paid to be there anyway. I doubt there was any additional cleanup costs. Perhaps SMCPS will finally fix that door now that the whole country knows it's non-securable, and not just the students and staff.

Is that the general mentality of today? Look there is a janitor so I will just throw my tray of food on the ground since he is cleaning anyway. Do you know for a fact that they have not called or will not have to call an exterminator? Do you know for a fact that the janitor didn't have to work OT to clean things up? Your attitude of "someone else will clean it up" sounds like a selfish one and if that is what the kids are being taught today I feel sorry for society. As for the door being fixed that is probably a good thing but I still maintain that an unlocked door does not give anyone the right to enter a building without permission.

That is the general mentality of today and it's pathetic. Yes, I do believe that the kids deserve to walk across the stage during graduation. BUT, they should also take care of all cleanup and all costs associated.

If I were the Principle...guess who'd be cleaning up that mess...all the Seniors. But of course, then little Billy and Becky's parents would squawk all about how their kid had to do manual labor at school.

See, and this is how it should have been handled. The End. I doubt that any of the parents would be squawking about their kids having to do manual labor and clean up their mess at the school. Seriously. Why would that have been such a hard decision to make?

We did crap all the time when I was in school, the teachers and the principal handled it and punished us accordingly. They didn't do ridiculous crap like turn stuff over to law enforcement. Hell, I don't even remember any issue going up to the Board of Education. We had a shaving cream fight on the bus and we all got to spend our Saturday scrubbing the bus from top to bottom, inside and out. There were no police, no hysteria, nothing.

Why does it have to be so hard (and so dramatic)?

My point was that there was no cleanup cost, but I do agree that the students should have cleaned up the mess. As for the door, I hope you agree that schools need to be secured from folks who don't care about getting permission to enter them. If the several comments from former and current students are correct, that door has been unsecured for quite some time.

I'm with you... but the real answer "Why" is because today, parents will sue the school if the school dares to discipline little Johnny or Suzy. The schools have been effectively emasculated from useful means of handling these situations BY THE PARENTS.

This term cracks me up. I think women are more scary when they lose their shiit than men are. I, for one, know my kids are much more afraid when mommy is mad. :coffee: I know this use of the word doesn't necessarily mean "less-manly" but the term in general does....

Welcome to PCUSA!!!

And if you think that NONE of the parents would complain about THEIR beloved child having to clean up.... you are sorely mistaken.

I don't think this has been mentioned yet....this morning local fox 5 reported the young man has had a few suspensions already...cell phone...undesirable behavior as a spectator at a football game. Perhaps this is why he is singled out and not the others.

I'm glad someone got the joke. It was very intentional.

Why on earth would somebody do something so stupid?

A senior boy did almost the same thing, a couple of years ago in Waldorf. It may have been Thomas Stone high school ?, and I seem to recall he released thousands of (Crickets ?), and was banned from the graduation ceremony. It made the local newspaper headlines.

Just found this - http://www.myfoxdc.com/story/179826...eleasing-bag-of-crickets-into-school-building

And the Belvedere cow was liberated by the GMHS Class of 1981. They returned the cow anonymously, and no one was charged. It had been shot with arrows multiple times in the years before it went on a sabbatical.

But. But....he was in the process of turning his life around. Fit in with the IN CROWD and keep the time honored tradition of Senior Prank alive!!:yahoo:

I was at the back door when the sow was released. olzack wasn't very pleased, they didn't care for us ffa boys and that made things a little harder on us.

Do they still have FFA? I know they did back in 1994 (dated a guy from that class), but I have wondered if that's a thing of the past now.

As I’m sure most of you are aware my son was one of the 7 involved w/ this prank. To say we are disappointed in his actions is an understatement. He made the poor choice to sneak out of the house, open the door after hours, and release the lady bugs w/ the rest of his friends. Which is why we said we would not plead to the superintendent/BOE to allow him to walk w/ his class. I am proud that my son apologized to the school & district for his actions in this prank and asked for their forgiveness. (to my knowledge he is the only one of the seven to do so) Obviously we were very upset he was unable to walk w/ the rest of his classmates but honestly we’re more concerned w/ the criminal side of this situation.

Thank you to those who have offered kind words and support.
