are you insane?

It is not the teachers discretion to grade papers and do lesson plans. They have to do it or they will be fired.

and guess what?!

When a teacher is 'off' they have to use vacation time too!

If a teach takes off for a cruise your right they do have to take vacation, as they should

But a teacher takes it up to themselves to grade papers and lesson plans, they could also go out and play in the snow, its their discretion.

So could average joe...but the work has to get done SOMETIME...so its either do it while you're "off" now or work extra hard when you have to go in (or go in early/stay late...same thing a teacher has to do)

So "average joe" gets time and a half if the business decides to use that little practice you claim it is so common to do (don't forget, we're talking salary employees now for a fair comparison...)

Do you really think teachers don't have to have grades for tests/projects/quizzes/homework/classwork/papers in at a certain time?

your arguing in circles, the point was and still is Teacher gets the day off, they MAY do some work.

Average Joe gets the day off, they have to work or take vacation.

Teacher gets the day off and is EXPECTED to make the work back up.

If they're off then they should take vacation. If they work, then it isn't a day off.

Didn't they completely shut the schools and admin down over Xmas this year in St. Mary's to "save" energy? 10 days of vacation to save energy?

I know that on professional days, they are now requiring everyone to vacate the building by 3:30 pm to save energy.

I see that I made a friend.

Been in the job market a few years now, and I already have a cushy desk job with awesome benefits :huggy:

No i havent, the only thing you've proven is that other school districts handle things differently.

But the original post was about a Chopticon Teacher, St Mary's count. Your 3 snowdays and florida hurricanes have nothing to do with it.

Once again I never bashed Teachers, I never stated they were overpaid/underpaid, and i never said it was an easy job (even if Janitor boy claims otherwise):

Teachers get paid a fair wage (40k on average) - Average Joe employee Yes
Teachers get off all 10 Federal Holidays - Average Joe employee Yes
Teachers get a week Sick days- Average Joe employee Yes
In addition:
Teachers were off (and paid not using Vacation) extended time for Thanksgiving (off Wednesday Nov 21st return Monday the 26th) - Average Joe employee No
Teachers get off (and paid not using Vacation) all Smow days (as long as its not more than 5) - Average Joe employee No
Teachers get off (and paid not using Vacation) Christmas break (7 business days) - Average Joe employee No
Teachers get off (and paid not using Vacation) Spring break (6 business days) - Average Joe employee No
Teachers get off (and paid not using Vacation) Summer break (45 business days or 9 weeks) - Average Joe employee No
Teachers salary is based on 1425 hours work (but may work more) - Average Joe employee salary is based on 2080 hours work (but may work more).

Point out where i stated something wrong
