JEMISON, Ala. (WIAT) – What started out as an overgrown gully behind the Rocky Mount United Methodist Church has turned into a ministry, complete with guns, bullets and the Bible.

Pastor Phillip Guin says the gully, once full of kudzu, snakes and other vermin, had been there since before he arrived at the church. Much of the dirt used as fill was from a recent expansion.

When brainstorming about what to do with the area, the idea of a gun range came up.

“We had quite a number of church members, some elderly ladies, for example, and some not so elderly women that had purchased guns, but didn’t know how to use them,” Guin said.

Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!:patriot:

We teach guns at our church camp for those 8 - 12th grade, .22LR. They can shoot just for fun, or for NRA scores or rewards if they so desire.

When I teach, I always bring a few pistols and an AR-15 for those who want to shoot them on Thursday-Friday. They all always do, so I personally put out, five rounds each for a .38 revolver, .40 Glock, and 5.56, (over 600 rounds total) for the young un's to shoot. They love it when they find out the week I'll be riflery instructor.:yay:

I particularly like the fact that they decided to to build the range to provide a place for some of the members, elderly ladies in particular, to get some training on handling their new and unfamiliar firearms.

I've been struck by the significant number of women that have been purchasing their first handguns in recent years. Even my own 84-yo mother, who has been handling firearms her entire life, recently purchased her first self-defense compact semi-auto pistol and asked us to help her become proficient with it. Not everyone in her situation has both the place to shoot and the relatives close at hand that are proficient enough to help out.

A very good idea indeed, and fun for all with good training and disciplines being taught. I would imagine bad guys looking for a target will bypass the sign that says "Christian Church and Gun Range/Club", and look for a softer target.

Looking at that photo, they could probably easily reconfigure the range to have at least a 50 yd rifle range as well as the close up pistol berm.

Does Matthew 26:52 apply to gun use?

Matthew 26:52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.

http://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/lexicon/lexicon.cfm?Strongs=G3162&t=KJV

1) a large knife, used for killing animals and cutting up flesh

2) a small sword, as distinguished from a large sword

a) curved sword, for a cutting stroke

b) a straight sword, for thrusting

Does a bullet have the same characteristics as a sword? Both can kill, both are for thrusting, both are used for cutting up flesh. Does Matthew 26:52 apply to gun use as well?

I'm not a pacifist but would rather remain neutral on the issue.

And before people here pick on me for saying this, I will say that Jesus permitted his followers to carry swords.

These were only short and defensive type swords. Jesus still told Peter to put it away:

Matthew 26:52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.

If I may ...

I think he is trying to stress Christians should be meek victims ...

the Commandment is thou shalt not murder .... not Kill

Amen. "Kill and Murder" have two distinct, different definitions, and are so stated in both the ancient language of the OT, and the Greek of the NT writings.

But it wasn't that way from the beginning. We're all related and you could be related to me somehow but we can't connect the grandparents and uncles. Not everything has to be solved with force. Sometimes we can call the police and they can handle it.

There is coming a new dispensation of time where you can't kill with the sword.

King James Bible
He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.

King James Bible
He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.

http://biblehub.com/matthew/19-8.htm

In other words, some of these commandments are because things aren't the way they should be. The way things should be is how they were in the beginning.

King James Bible
And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper?
http://biblehub.com/genesis/4-9.htm

I would say, "yes". We are our brother's and our neighbor's keeper.

King James Bible
And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.

http://biblehub.com/genesis/4-10.htm

God knows when someone is hurting.

But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?
http://biblehub.com/luke/10-29.htm

The answer is everyone.

When your house is broken in to and your life and your family members are threatened, would you rather have a shotgun only seconds out of your reach....or a police officer that is 20 minutes away?

Our police respond and usually are here in two minutes. The national average is eleven minutes.
Our police handled a problem without anyone getting hurt. That is not always the case when individuals handle it themselves.
The police officer is the law so when he says, "put it down" then you are putting it down or you are going to jail for a very long time.
If I defended myself, the other person might think I am in the wrong.

The neighbor had a domestic dispute. I called the police. Guns don't belong in domestic disputes.

But yeah. I know how you feel and what you are saying.

I could give a crap about the "national average". I know that where I live the response time can be easily be 20 minutes or more. I'll call the police after an overt threat is disabled or dead.

Even if the response time is 2 minutes (2 minutes..LMAO...you are a liar, Chuck..or live right next to a police station) ...yr already dead if you are unable to defend yourself. Your bodies will simply be discovered that much quicker.

Chuckt, I take it you like to relay and quote the world's all time best seller at will and perhaps even take to translating it literally. Ready to have some Bible verse fun?

Don't really care. I can help only one person per day. Today is not your day and tomorrow doesn't look good either.
You aren't going to make me lose my faith .... so whatever you think you have is not strong enough because you aren't the only one that has challenged me over the years and if you happen to have something for me to work on, I am just going to tell you to get in line and wait.

Obviously you are wayyyy behind on achieving even that "modest" goal. Maybe a result of your utterly astonishing level of hubris?....

A lot of pastors already know the game. Someone argues with them but when does the argument stop? I argued with an atheist for years and he would just hammer away at me. If all you have to do is make up arguments then you could spend your life arguing and it would never change the truth.

I had pity on people and answered the skeptics but proving them wrong never made them listen and it never changed them. If someone loves darkness then the answer is already ,"no". When the answer is already "no" then they've already made up their minds and whatever could change their minds does not matter.

Christians could be the most happy people and not argue with you because if you only have sunglasses on then the only thing you will see is darkness.

I would like to say your are the most deluded idiot I've encountered on the internets...but I've actually seen worse. So come on Chuck...you need to elevate your game. Unbridled and unrestrained self-righteousness is a lot like 6-back abs..you really have to keep working at it.
