I could not get anything done, kept going to Cracker Barrel for breakfast every morning. :lmao:
You must be deeply devoted/connected to So. MD to put up with that.

62 miles one way. Dowell to Chinatown NW DC. Drive to Dunkirk and catch the Keller bus. Not a bad ride... bus = naptime. Takes about 2 hrs each way.

20 minutes each way, but my commute has been known to take up to two hours. You good people provide me with a car, so my obligation is to stop and help when the situation warrants my help!

Geez! Thought I had it bad, but after reading some of these posts, it's not so bad. I leave Mechanicsville about 5:20 a.m. and drive to Suitland (Census). Usually at work by 6:10 or so (straight up 5). Coming home, do the zig zag and come out at Gallant Green. Takes about 55 minutes, but no stop and go! Overall, about a 70 mile round-trip. Thought about Keller bus at Charlotte Hall, but get carsick ( :barf: ) if I'm not driving, and diesel fumes affect me the same way, so I drive... I work the AWS schedule. Eight 9 hour days, one 8 hour day, and one day off. Am off every other Monday. Definitely worth it. Hours 6:30-4:00, home by 5:00.

45 seconds.......From the bed to the coffee pot and the time its takes my laptop to turn on in the family room. :coffee:

:yeahthat: And why don't we count? Because we got it figured out? Husband is 2 miles: 7 minutes door to desk. Used to be over an hour with a bus and a train. I concur in the statement that the amount of money made does not outweigh the cost of loosing time with family and living life. I am blessed though: my company is out of DC so I am paid DC rates. I encourage everyone to do a bang up job at work and then ask to work remotely, if not but a few days a week. It's the bomb.

My drive to work is 4min, 5 min if the traffic circle has a lot of traffic. My hubby has a 12min drive to work.

I'm just curious - what is everyone's commute time/distance? I didn't realize just how long some people do drive to get to work. I have seen people at the Park-n-Ride at Rt. 2 at 5:00 am! Gosh - what time do you have to be at work and what time do you finish?

I commute from Prince Frederick to Annapolis - 48 miles one way - using Rt. 4 to 301 to 50.

I'm on the bus at 5:15AM. Get off the bus at 6:40AM then walk 5-6 block to my job downtown DC. Going home is (after my 15 min walk) 3:20PM to 5:00PM. Good thing I'm only 2 min. from the bus stop...The bus makes it much easier becuase I don't have to think about driving and the stress of traffic. Plus I can get some extra ZZZ in the morning!

Does anyone buy into the theory that it is a waste of time/energy to commute long distances in order to make more money? In other words, you could make considerably less closer to home and not incur the commute costs - not mention have more time with family/friends, etc.

I don't totally buy it because the overall cost of just living here is incredible. You could make less money but you couldn't afford to live in this area.
Yes I do, it can be proven mathematically though so I don't really see it as theory.

What can't have a monetary value tacked on is quality of life. The main reason my family lives so far away from my work is that it's just a better lifestyle for them (being that I'm away from home quite a bit already).

45 minutes in the morning and about an hours in the evenings. 38 mile commute one way.

Not sure if this was mentioned since I didn't read every post but travelling through Prince Frederick stinks in the even (around 4:30-5:00). I wish they'd get that bypass paved (if there's going to be one).

I have to agree. We moved down here (around PF) from Greenbelt and the trade-off for the the kinder people, peace and quiet and peace of mind is nearly priceless.

I have three co-workers who left their job to work with a lesser commute for precisely that reason. And took a significant pay cut to do it. Where they were in a car over three hours a day (minimum), they are now commuting for less than an hour both ways, and get to see their families at a reasonable hour everyday.

Works for them, that's the most important thing

I left my job at NNMC because the commute was just not worth the pay. The quality of life needs to be taken into consideration and 2 hours each way (when traffic is good) was just not worth it for me.

I've been considering this for 6 months. Extremely hard to walk away from a lucrative career path. Almost makes me feel like I should just trash the resume. I am extremely torn.

May I add... With the cost of living in St. Mary's, it is extremely mind boggling that almost no one working locally gets paid. The average salary in the area is 45,000 and if you make 65,000 your hitting the "Big Time!"

It's really not right.

Northern Calvert to Alexandria VA. 32.8 miles takes 1.5 hours because of that damn bridge. On a day with no traffic I can make it in 40 minutes.
