Constitutional amendment to allow foreign born to become President

Currently, Title 8 of the U.S. Code fills in those gaps. Section 1401 defines the following as people who are "citizens of the United States at birth:

* Anyone born inside the United States
* Any Indian or Eskimo born in the United States, provided being a citizen of the U.S. does not impair the person's status as a citizen of the tribe
* Any one born outside the United States, both of whose parents are citizens of the U.S., as long as one parent has lived in the U.S.
* Any one born outside the United States, if one parent is a citizen and lived in the U.S. for at least one year and the other parent is a U.S. national
* Any one born in a U.S. possession, if one parent is a citizen and lived in the U.S. for at least one year
* Any one found in the U.S. under the age of five, whose parentage cannot be determined, as long as proof of non-citizenship is not provided by age 21
* Any one born outside the United States, if one parent is an alien and as long as the other parent is a citizen of the U.S. who lived in the U.S. for at least five years (with military and diplomatic service included in this time)
* A final, historical condition: a person born before 5/24/1934 of an alien father and a U.S. citizen mother who has lived in the U.S.

Anyone falling into these categories is considered natural-born, and is eligible to run for President or Vice President.

Okay so here is my question - if both parents were born in the U.S. and thus are citizens, and they adopt a child from another country does that make him eligible to run for president? In the above post is never states that the parents need to be the birth parents of the child.

How do you refute the stupid amendment commericials where they state "it's not their fault they were born where they were?"
I say, "Then tell him to go be President of Austria."

I think I'd see a gay male as president and first man before I see an african american president... Just my opinion though.

How do you refute the stupid amendment commericials where they state "it's not their fault they were born where they were?" I would say... well if the mother wants her foreign kid to be president they shoudl have thought of that in advance and made the necessary preparations :roflmao:
The ad is just a dream. Californians are euphoric about having Arnie even though they are pretty much still in the same boat they were before he got in there. Besides what choice did they have in the recall election – Gary Coleman, the porn Queen, or the Ex-Governor?

I also think a man or woman of color will become President before a person practicing an alternative lifestyle. As with you that is just my opinion.

his wife had to hear on TV that they were going to be getting a divorce... how tacky is that
If Donna Hanover didn't realize that Rudy wanted a divorce until she heard it on TV, then she's stupider than she looks. Their battle for Gracie Mansion was legendary tabloid fodder.

I've seen his biography about 5 times on the Biography channel and it's even documented in there.... I didn't hear it from a tabloid

Seriously though... I just don't understand y'all sometimes.... y'all say republicans would never stand for that amendment, and then say well yes, if he's the best GOP candidate y'all would stand for it -- there's a link missing here that I'm trying to get at the bottom of with you folks... either that or y'all are just continuing y'alls assertions ipsie dixit. But my question is... do you really think that the Dems paid for this advertising to get Arnold elected for president in 2008??? I mean really -- you have got to see some writting on the wall pointing back to the republican party can't y'all???? Arnold is a republican... the ad is for arnold and to amend the constitution. I think WUSA9 at 7:00 may be dicussing this issue further tonight... I really hope so -- so that I can have feed back on the actual ads... :huggy:

Who has said that anyone would stand for or even support such an amendment?

The ad is sponsored by Californians and other clueless dweebs that think that Arnie is something.

Republicans don't think in lockstep. Some of us might like Arnie, others don't. Some GOPers might think changing the Constitution is a great idea, others don't.

Californians like their guy. Even the Democrats like him. I, personally, like him. But I wouldn't vote for him for President because I don't think a non-American should be President of the United States. It sets a bad precedent, in my opinion.

No where did I say that the clueless dweebs were Democrats, though you must certainly think that they are based on your comments. These people think they have something to offer in Arnie and that hasn’t been proven. With California’s deficit at $8 billion when he took office it is still the same one year later. He has done nothing as far as I can tell other then make media highlight speeches that any actor should be able to pull off.

The people sponsoring the push have a site - http://www.amendus.org/ I am now just getting into finding out who they are but they don’t seem to have all of their oars in the water.

Co-founders - Lissa Morgenthaler-Jones and Mimi Chen .

Lissa's a libertarian-turned-RINO (Republican in name only) and Mimi's a member of the Green Party.

Exactly who I want pushing for something that could devistate our Constitution and Nation.

If you bothered to check the website referenced above and go to "About Us" that is what they say about themselves and not what I have to say about them. :sheesh: At times I am positive my canine has better powers of comprehension and investigative skills then some of the people posting on this site.

Give a  to your canine for me... :frown: :sniff: :sniff:

So I take it you would just rather run off at the fingers filling some void then actually determine the validity of the information you are responding to.

As to kissing the pooch I think he has vehemently turned down your offer and has decided to lick himself instead. You can bet I won't be kissing him for a while.

And what I said was not directed towards any political party but towards some clueless dweebs and Californians that think they have an idea.
