contacts vs. glasses

Which is better? More convenient? Less expensive? I'm trying to do some research on contact lenses (the kind for astigmatism), to see whether or not I might be able to get them. TIA.

I have contacts with the same problem you do. I also have vision insurance so I didn't have to pay for a six months supply of contacts.

Those are good questions for your eye care professional that has your history.

 I just thought some people on here would have some suggestions and opinions b/c they wear contacts, as well

I love my contacts. I have the accuvue extended wear. I love being able to see when I wake up instead of fumbling for glasses.

Glasses are more convenient, if you want lower cost and don't want to have to put something in your eyes every morning. I have astigmatism, and my contacts are very expensive, but my insurance covers part of the cost. I love my contacts, though, and could never go back to wearing my glasses full-time. It's basically just a matter of how much you want to get rid of your glasses, and how much you're willing to pay to do it.

I'd love to finally get contacts...I don't hate my glasses, but I feel like they hide my face when I wear them, plus I hate that I can't wear any sunglasses besides prescription ones.

Well, if you're willing to do it, then just check with your doctor and see if you can do it. They have soft contacts for astigmatism, but sometimes an astigmatism is so severe that you have to get hard contacts, or can't get contacts at all. With hard contacts, you'd have to get used to putting hard plastic in your eye everyday and keeping it there, and you'd have to clean them everynight, and couldn't wear them for days on end.

Some people don't like surgery, but with some astigmatisms LASIK doesn't improve the vision as much as having contacts would. My doctor told me I could get it, but my vision would actually be worse than with my contacts. Moreover, some people still need reading glasses after getting it.

I wore glasses for a few years before recently switching to contacts. I love contacts and I'm glad I made the switch. They're much more convenient. My insurance pays roughly $100 a year and I cover the rest of the cost. I have an astigmatism and my contacts are only $19.50 a box which has 3 pair (6 total).

The initial fitting was a bit tricky, but after 20 minutes, I was an expert! :diva:

I would definitely try them out, Janey! :yay:

Here's a fourth for LASIK

But if it's just a choice between glasses and contacts, I'd go with contacts. They are a bit more of a hassle, but I thought it was worth the hassle. Glasses were uncomfortable (especially when doing anything active). Contacts are cheaper up front, but they probably cost more in the long run (cleaning solutions, etc). Plus you'll need to have a pair of glasses anyway. Well, my vision was bad enough that I needed glasses when I wasn't wearing the contacts.

Time for a nap
I wear glasses for distance (mainly driving and watching TV). If I ever get to the point where I need them all the time, I will go for contacts.

Janey, disposable contacts are EASY to have (no muss, no fuss). Go for it!
