Will the optomerist on base do Contact prescriptions??

It's $85 for a contact screening/ eye exam at Wal-Mart.. free pair of trial lenses, and she'll order you a pair of trial weighted lenses if you need those..

She's a very nice woman.. and cute too..

actually target accepts my insurance, so that's where I'll be headed....base is booked for almost a month, so  to getting to go there

If you are talking tri-care, I htink Wal-Mart still comes out cheaper then Target with the "Military discount".. that and i was VERY impressed with the optometrist at Wal-Mart... She fixed me up good, after so many before her just blew me off..

I would love to have my vision corrected but at this time I am not an ideal candidate. Sux2bme cuz I'm far sighted......But I am able to see without my contacts and glasses....

I enjoy hiding behind my glasses and looking studious. I can impersonate an intellectual when I want to.

JUST KIDDING!!!

For a guy like me who occasionally does things where eye protection is a good idea, and rarely stops to think of it, glasses serve an additional (if unintended) purpose.

I actually DO look better with glasses, I think. I always look tired with 'em off. I'd consider Lasik if I cared enough to change; and I haven't considered contacts because I have problems just giving myself eyedrops!

I can imagine the problems I'd have putting in contacts. :yikes:

Janey,
I don't have an astigmatism. I wear both contacts and glasses. Worn glasses since 3rd grade and contacts since 8th grade. I used to leave the contacts in overnight back in the day, but in the last few years my eyes have gotten to the point where i can barely stand 12 hours in them without rewetting drops. Now in the springtime when the pollen comes out I can't wear them but a couple hours cause my eyes get too itchy.

So if you have allergies and your eyes water or itch or whatever that is something to think about for contacts...

:yeahthat: I forgot about the days I have issues when my allergies are kicking in big time.

My son's go to Target for their exams and such. One wears glasses and the other contacts. We have tri-care prime and do not pay a dime for the exam on either. We used to go to Walmart until they kept changing their warranty's every time we turned around. I like the Dr. @ Target better also.

BTW- I have astigmatism in both eyes. It didn't affect my getting Lasik one bit. I do have to use reading glasses (depending on print size) BUT I already had bifocales and I am over 50............

I went to the same place. I have horrible allergies, so wearing contacts would make my eyes tear and red/itchy. I never got used to wearing glasses - my vision took a nose-dive when I was over 21.

Although my night vision is horrible (always was, just didn't get any better after the surgery), I love waking up and not having to look for my glasses or put in contacts that would burn my eyes!

Which is better?

I like glasses better. Personally, I like the way my face looks with glasses better than without. My wife (says that she) has no preference to my face with or without.

I also don't like the idea of something on my eyeball all day long, or poking my finger into my eye every day. I've tried to wear contacts a couple times. Didn't work out for me at all.

Totally a matter of opinion though. Some people look better without accoutrements on their faces, some people don't mind crap in their eyes.

More convenient?

Glasses.

Less expensive?

Glasses.

I think you can buy disposable contacts per batch. A batch of contacts costs less than a pair of glasses. After you've bought 5 batches, I doubt that still holds water.

Not sure about hard contacts or the kind you keep forever.

They used to be more expensive.

I have gotten to where I hate my contacts & glasses actually. My eyes are always dry and itchy......just a pain in general.

Well if you ever decide (depending on your age etc) get the lifetime touch ups. I could actually use a touchup now but opted to wait till next year. Well worth the extra $300 per eye. My glasses with all the scratch coating, glare coat, bifocal, and tint cost me roughly $400 per year. I figure the lasik at $4k (I think - remember I am old!) was well worth it.

If you decide to go I could go with you if you like. Morgan went with me for all my checkups after and we always went to the Macaroni Grill afterwards. yum..........
