Ugh! Just the thought of watching the needle pierce my eye freaks me out! :twitch:
 There's no needle...

Actually, I couldn't get LASIK because my corneas are too thin. I had to get PRK which reshapes the exterior surface. In LASIK, they slice off the top layer, use the laser to reshape the middle, and then drop the top layer back on (where it instantly heals itself). In PRK, the doctor had to a little scraping on the surface first (no different from me putting contacts in as far as being "freaky"). Then the laser reshapes the exterior....then the surface heals for about a month. It was a bit uncomfortable for a couple days, but they gave me good drugs

Thanks a lot. I'm now curled up in a ball typing with my nose. And my eyes hurt.

I wear contacts and have astigmatism. They ain't cheap!!!! But I have a real job with good insurance that pays for them :yay:
They're cheap NOW!! Got my eyes done at Wal-Mart, and complained about night vision with contacts, and other problems I was having.. she suggested weighted contacts for my astigmatism, and said last year she wouldn't have because of the cost.. but now they are the same price as a normal pair of contacts.. I paid (I think) $20 per box of six.. SUPER comfortable, and no more blurred night vision.. excellent vision for the whole time I wear them..

I started wearing contacts when I was 16. This was when soft lenses first came out and you had to make your own saline solution. I noticed as I got older and the more computer work I do that contacts become a hassle. My eyes get dry and I was constantly putting in eye drops. I went back to glasses.

Also, no matter what type of contacts you wear you need to be careful about infections. Small things like the fumes from glue can cause scratches on your corneas if you are wearing contacts at the time. Not cleaning them properly, etc also lead to infections.

Ultimately it is your choice. I would go to a doctor that will let you try them for 30 days. This way if they don't work out, are too much hassle etc you can return them and not have wasted alot of $$.

Not only that but I'd rather be dead than blind and miss my son growing up b/c I choose an elective surgery. I know the chances of mistakes are very low, but that's something I'm not willing to gamble with:ohwell:

:yeahthat: I had to have PRK on one eye & Lasik on the other. Literally 10 min. after my head hit the pillow, I sat up & read him the time on a clock across the room. I had very little discomfort and could have driven myself home. I had it done in 2000 and haven't regreted it one bit. They do tell you that eventually you'll need reading glasses (when you get old) but that's because the body gets old. You'll prolly need them anyway.

I had disposable contacts before LASIK. I left them in my eyes for 3 weeks at a time. If you're dead against surgery (I hardly consider it surgery) the go with contacts. I wore glasses since 4th grade and was so happy to be able to wake up and not have to fumble for glasses. Glasses suck when swimming, snow skiing etc... You don't have to mess with contacts everyday. But with Lasik, you don't have to mess with anything!!!

I am so very blessed
I love my glasses, although most frequently, I wear contacts. Contacts have never been a problem for me to wear.

Some people look good in glasses, you'd look better with contacts. I told you this last year when you were debating this.:bonk:

I'm sorry; blade or laser, not needle!
Seriously, all you see is a red flashing light. 4-5 minutes per eye & you sit up, done! No pain. They give you meds for later but I never took them.

I've heard the story play-by-play just recently; I have NO desire to get it done!

Will the optomerist on base do Contact prescriptions??

It's $85 for a contact screening/ eye exam at Wal-Mart.. free pair of trial lenses, and she'll order you a pair of trial weighted lenses if you need those..

She's a very nice woman.. and cute too..

I soooo want to get Lasik done, but $$$

Before I die I will have it done so just ONCE I can wake up and be able to see when I open my eyes..

No glasses, no contacts..

I've been wearing glasses since i was 15, and before that I just thought everyone could see like I did.. always wondered how stupid the government must be to make speed limit signs that nobody could read. AMAZING day the first day I wore glasses.
