Country Music

Slim Whitman was more popular in Europe than he was in this country. I'm not sure why that was, but there you have it. He passed less than a year ago, by the way. Don't think I heard anything about it in the news.

This is purportedly his first single, "Casting My Lasso Towards the Sky." I haven't confirmed that, but it's early yet.

One of the most awesome performances of "Orange Blossom Special" I've ever heard, with a bonus of "King Tut."

It shreds in places, but still worth watching. Nicky Sanders is a demon on fiddle! :faint:

I know what they said about George Bush and where they said it, and I don't approve. As former military, I support and will defend their right to say it. Besides, I wonder if all the people who slammed the Dixie Chicks have second thoughts, given the successor to W and the apology tour he went on, slamming all Americans.

They do make some great music and I hope they've had second thoughts about what they said and especially where they said it. You don't run down your relatives to strangers.

Charlie Pride, "Kiss an Angel Good Morning."

"Your Mansion on the Hill."

Probably my favorite Charlie Pride song, "Is Anybody Going to San Antone?"

This is probably one of the most manic versions of "Orange Blossom Special" out there, featuring the Ragin' Cajun his self, Doug Kershaw, along with Leon Russell and a cast of stars at an early Willie Nelson Picnic in Texas. Between the heat, the humidity, the drinking and the drugs, it's hard to say who's more loaded: the audience or the performers.

The Old American Barn Dance (1953 TV show w/Patsy Montana, Johnny Bond, Kenny Roberts)

This is, believe it or not, WLS, Chicago. Patsy Montana is the only one I'd ever heard of, to tell the truth.

"Cutest Country Chicks."

I'd agree with that! :hot:

Including Jean Shepherd, who was the real Queen of Country & Western, Lorrie Collins, who was more rockabilly and in one of the only solo appearances I've ever seen, a very young Brenda Lee, Wanda Jackson...in short, many of the icons of classic country.

I haven't listened to Darius Rucker in quite a long time, and this is as great a song to start with as any. I honestly can't decide which version I like better; this one or Old Crow Medicine Show's. Hey, let's listen to them both!

This makes me tear up, for the nostalgia of it, if nothing else. Miss Connie Smith does a great job on this.

It must be Old Crow Medicine Show night at the BOP hacienda. I've been a fan of Gillian Welch's for years now, ever since I saw her on Lost Highway. The harmonies are amazing. "The Weight," popularized by The Band.

Definitely going old school, and with something a little different from one of the famous Carter family, Anita, daughter of Mother Maybelle and Ezra Carter. Ezra was AP Carter's brother, and Maybelle was AP's wife's cousin. Together, with AP and Sara's daughters, they made up the now famous Carter Family.

Anita Carter probably as famous, if not more so, than her sisters June and Helen, though Helen plays the guitar in the same manner her mother did, and sounds a lot like Mother Maybelle as well. June is probably as famous for marrying Johnny Cash as she is in her own right, though she did make a lot of appearances on various country variety shows over the years.
