Could be true, I don't know, but what I do know is that while helping control the deer (maybe slightly) they will probably destroy the turkey population...which is just starting to rebound with decent numbers.

DNR always comes up with the best solutions in game management.:sarcasm:

Wait a minute! I thought that Coyotes were never past the Mississippi River before the 20th century? What does DNR mean 'reintroduce'?
I used to see and hear them off the flight line at Lemoore all the time.

(Scariest encounter I had was with a wolverine.)

That's been along time ago, MD DNR has been saying for many years that coyotes are in every county in MD. I have never heard that they were the ones that reintroduced them though.

One more thing about coyotes, they can get over small fences. We knew several folks in AZ that lost their outdoor cats, and small dogs to coyote.
(wasn't Jessica Simpson's maltese/poodle mix snatched and eaten by coyotes?) I don't know, I always keep a watch on my pets and if you see one they will typically run right off. They don't like humans and they are afraid of humans. If one approaches or acts really odd I would be fearful that it could be rabid. Maybe the coyotes can eat some of these deer running around here....

Teenage folk singer Taylor Mitchell killed by coyotes in Canadian park - Times Online

A teenage folk singer hailed as a rising star in Canada has been mauled to death by two coyotes while hiking alone in woods during a solo tour. The attack took place as Taylor Mitchell, 19, was walking on a trail in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park in Nova Scotia.

I've had them run up to within yards of me at my farm in West Virginia. I consider them a credible threat.

why so serious
Coyotes are confirmed to be in every county in Maryland now. A reliable source told me that they were re-introduced by DNR, to all areas of the state, to help control the deer population. I have seen three, or the same one three times, in the Radio Station Road area in La Plata.

I wonder if they will also control the outdoor cat population.:coffee:

Interesting. I was out with the pooch about daybreak when I felt something, looked behind us, as what I thought was a large tall fox ran across the street behind us. It had waited for us to go by.
I thought it looked strange due to the large tail and how tall it was, but paid no attention.
That was last spring in LexPk city.
Dog never missed a step....

It kinda looks like it could be a fox maybe? Just a little bit taller?

Quite a bit taller. Even with the lack of rain, the beans in that corner of the field are taller than you think. A fox would be lost in there. But, I had my doubts too, which is why I sent it to DNR for confirmation.
I suppose the only 100% confirmation will be to kill it and see. I'll be working on that.

You can spot coyotes, because they walk upright on two legs, and often have an Acme rocket strapped to their bodies somewhere.

And they hold up little signs to talk to you.
