Customer Service

I'll give you that maybe not all customer service is bad, however I've had nothing but frustrating experiences since I've been out here. Perhaps it's a cultural thing and I've yet to catch on.

For example, at Wal-Mart last week, we get to the register and realize that one of the items of clothing does not have a tag on it. Now we, as consumers, should've checked to make sure all items were indeed tagged. I'll give you that. However, we did not and simply assumed that it would be tagged. Upon getting up to the register and noticing this, I immediately handed it to the cashier and said "You will need to get a price check on this because it does not have a tag. I'm sorry." She looked at me like I had a third eyeball and then set the item aside. She gets to the end of all the clothing, realizes she has this item sitting on her register, and again looks at me with a "What do I do with this?" expression. I tell her AGAIN that the item does not have a tag and that she will need to get a price check on it. She again gives me a blank look, and then looks at the pile of hangers on the belt (as I had removed them from all the clothes). I told her I did not need those hangers and they were for her to throw away (in Minnesota, when a cashier sees hangers on a belt, that's what it means). She looked put out by the fact she'd have to reach down under her station and throw them away, and so instead took out a big walmart bag and put all the hangers in it and then tried to put it with our stuff. I again told her they were to be thrown away and she finally did. Then she looked back at the article of clothing and I AGAIN told her she needed a price check, and this time it must've registered because she finally did the price check.

Am I saying that customer service of that sort is the norm? God I hope not, because I wanted to break something by the time I left Wal-Mart. But I'm saying that I've received customer service that's been on that level of service multiple times since I've been out here.

There's scientific evidence that when we receive bad service we tell 3 people, but when we receive good service we may tell only 1 person.

I've gotten some great customer service out here too. The same Wal-Mart, when I went in on a different day, I was smiled at by a cashier when I walked in. She made it a point to make eye contact with me and smiled. This caused me to actually seek her out upon checkout to make sure she was my cashier. She was warm, friendly, engaging... she actually made my day feel a little brighter from our interaction.

I guess to me that's what customer service is about... it doesn't have to impact your life positively, but it shouldn't impact it negatively.

i've been in st. mary's almost a year and i wouldn't trade the customer service for anywhere else i have experienced!! the service i have received had myself and my family to pinch ourselves.....

and yes, i am very big on customer service. I have had to complain and i have also taken my business elsewhere. there were only 3 instances(restaurants) where i had issues but nothing serious as to lump all service as being bad.

i say, keep up the good work!!

**side note** McDonald's excluded and i mean that literally :cussing:

The best Line I have ever heard about a Walmart.

Welcome to Wal-mart, get your sh*t and get out.

Makes me giggle when I have to go to that place

I don't think I've ever been so affected by a trip to Wal Mart that I feel the need to mention it, much less days later and in detail. :giggle:

Just because you have come in contact with a few "rude" people doesn't mean everyone is like that. I hate Walmart and avoid it at all costs. I've also never been that affected by something while I was in there. To each his own.

Great post, Pete! :yay:

:yeahthat: and I would like to add.

1. This isn't Minnesota.

2. Walmart pays crap wages.

3. There are borderline retards everywhere.

4. Borderline retards often work at Walmart because they will hire them.

5. Maybe you do have a third eye and you scared the shiat out of her.

6. Your example while somewhat strange is not out of the ordinary at Walmarts all across the country and is not exaclty poor customer service as it is indicative of Walmarts mantra "Cheap is cheap and you get what you pay for.".

7. If that experience as you explained it caused you to want to "break something" I would have to say you need to realign your priorities because you are seriously adrift.

Every time I get out of walmart I want to break something.

But rarely has it been because of the customer service. (It's usually the other idiot customers lumbering around who make my life hell in there. I especially love when someone busts their ass to get in front of you - and then crawl along like a turtle. It should be legal to shoot people for that.)

Actually - in my experience, Walmart has been on of the best around here in the Customer Service arena. Walmart and Outback and Target. And Best-Buys... I've always been happy when walking out of Best Buys.

Only thing I hate about Walmart is that the aisles are all to close together, and some areas in the store get way too congested. Maybe the expansion will help alliviate some of that problem. I hope so.

Good post :yay:
I was stopped at Checkers the other day and ordered a Bacon and Swiss double burger with Lettuce, tomato and mayo ONLY. I watch the girl load it up with pickels, mustard, ketchup, onions and then add what I wanted. I banged on the window a nd gave her a :nono:. Shee looked up at the orderscreen and threw away the L/T and mayo  wrapped it up and tried to give it to me. Told her it was L/T & mayo only and would she please remake it. She does it again and hands it to me and I asked if it was called a bacon & swiss because there is supposed to be bacon on it. She goes back for the third try and gets it right, I say Thank you and leave.
I didn't call their National headquarters, I didn't ask to speak to the manager. Did I stand there longer than I should have? Yes but it was no big deal.
Was I offended? No, I felt sorry for the poor girls reading skills
Was I amused? yes

When I get poor customer service I just chalk it up to the person having an off day and go about my merry way. Sure, there are some times that it just hits me on an off day and irks me, but I'm not going to complain about it, there's no point. I just smile, tell them to have a nice day, and leave.

You mean you didn't froth at the mouth, demand to speak to the Vice President of East coast Operations, call them names, and demand free burgers for life because they dared be so indignant as to screw up your order?
