You should get a trike!!.. I think you'd look spiffy riding around on one of those.. We'll have 1 in our group tomorrow!
One of my friends has a Harley trike. It's gorgeous. I'd love one.

It's not her. She lives in Charlotte Hall and would have told me if she was going.

I was refering to the ST 1300 you went up to try out. Guess they didn't have one?
Nope, they were sold out.. of course that could mean they sold the ONE they had. No diea when they were going to get more.. I got to look at one that was in for service, and it IS a nice looking bike.. but would like something other then black.

I agree that Harleys are overpriced but I like the look of them. I've looked at Buells, BMWs, and Ducatis but are not drawn to them as I am the Harleys.
Don't LOOK at them, RIDE them.. You take an R1200RT or a R1200GS for a ride you won't regret it.. well, you might after you decide to buy and have THAT payment..

I'm not dropping 20K on a bike based on looks..

Very interesting and helpful, thanks PT. My concern is that we will buy a bike on impulse and regret it later, wanting something else and losing quite a bit of $$$ in the transaction...I'll definitely have DH rent a Fat Boy for a long ride based on your advice before purchasing anything. And especially if I go with a separate 883, it doesn't matter much to me which bike he gets as long as he'll be happy with it.

If you have any riding experience at all, don't get the 883. Pick up a used 1200 instead. You'll get bored with the 883 REALLY fast. The 1200 is the same size bike with more power. It'll be MUCH more fun for you. The market is flooded with 883's cuz of people growing out of them. I started on a 1200 and loved it. I miss it. I would also recommend you buying a used VROD replacement as well, whether it be a fat boy or other. You loose less upon re-sale, if any. Both of my harleys, I purchased used, and made out really well with them.

Also as recommended, look at the VStar line. They are sweet. But again, if you are looking for a starter bike, buy used, and buy something with a large enough power plant that you can grow into it and enjoy it longer before boredom sets in. Typically, starter bikes are out grown in one year. Buy used, and larger, and you get your moneys worth out of it, and loose MUCH less when you sell it.

Have you looked at the Kawi Concours? Since it hasn't been updated in a while, new ones go for about $8500

The new MC Capt we have has one.. he's looking (not TOO serious though) for a new ride. He's had his about 8 years.. all of 5000 miles on it.

Last week-end he put 600 miles on it, make him a REAL rider yet.

Speeding Biker Dead after Crashing into Building
HUGHESVILLE --- A state trooper attempted to stop two motorcyclists doing 150 mph at Oakville early on Wednesday. When the two speed demons hit the county line, the trooper gave up the chase. One of the bikers went off the road and hit a building, setting it on fire. More details as they become available. (St.Marys Today Online Edition)

I saw that. Unreal. Sucks, had they slowed down to wave to you, the one might still be alive. :ohwell:
