Get some Givi's so you can carry stuff. :smack:
I thought Bob had luggage on his bike

Looking at the radar map, the rain looks like a passing storm. It should be over quickly. Luckily, my bike is under cover in the parking garage.

I do, but I rode in the rain about a week ago.. and when I got home I hung up the suit to dry and the boots were sitting on the garage floor drying.. I even had the rainsuit in my hand this morning, and decided.. nAAAAH I won't need it today..

Think if I can get out of here for lunch will repack my side cases..

:yay: I've thought about this scenario several times.

See, on the first occasion, there was only one other bike, and I parked right next to it. I'm still looking for it. If I find it again, the owner will be walking home with his drive belt in hand.

The second one, no other bikes around. So I figure was just some non-motorcycle riding Harley Owner Wanna-be punk that just needs his a$$ handed to him.

I am not old enough for a Gold Wing yet, and at what point do you say Screw it and just buy a car??

My point exactly. Sold the VRod and now looking for more of a cruiser Harley. I miss how the VRSCA hugged curves and think I like the Fat Boy. DH likes the Ultra Classic. I think if you're gonna get an Ultra Classic you might as well be riding around in the Sebring. A comprimise might be a Road King which we've rented and found to be OK (or I just get my own 883). Anyone compare riding/owning the ultra classic/fat boy/road king? I've done the side-by-side comparison on the HD website but that's not exactly the same.

I like the fat boy. Maybe I'll be able to afford one someday.

Can't you go to the dealership and take one for a test drive??

I have a motorcycle and a Sebring convertible. Works for me!

Yes but I value advice from folks who have driven these bikes for more than 15 minutes :) Without that, I'll probably go with renting each for a day or a weekend. I would hate to get a bike that I pick from a dealership after a short test drive to find out a month later that it's actually uncomfortable on long rides or has other things that irk me.

 Unless the person is the same height/weight/inseam/reach as you, the bike will "feel" different to you.

The Road King and Ultra Classic use the same frame if I'm not mistaken, while the FatBoy is a Softail frame. If you're looking at crusing comfort, forget the Softail.

I disagree completely.

I've ridden Road Kings, an Ultra, Heritage Softails, Sportsters and My Springer Softail. Hands down the Softails gave a better ride. What gives the Ultra's the edge for long distance cruising is the daggum extra thick cushy seats, high back rests, arm rests, huge fairing and windshield...why not just get a car? Obviously some folks like them cuz they are everywhere. They are just not for me.

But what I like in a ride may be different than yours. And don't forget that rentals and demo ride bikes aren't properly setup for your ride style or weight. Some will be set too soft and some will be too stiff, some may feel bouncy...all of this is due to improper suspension setup. I ride pretty aggressively. I like to feel the corner a little, and not just glide through it. You won't be able to do that on an Ultra or Road King as much due to the foot rests (flat pan instead of pegs). It's not a good feeling to dive into a corner and have the foot pegs, exhaust, kickstand or foot rests hitting the pavement so hard, you're not truning any more, and still have more corner to get through.

All of the bikes have many different seats available as well as back rests, foot rests, pegs, handlebars with varying hand placement/positions...all of which goes into compfort.

One of my very good friends and riding buds had a softail Custom for 6 years. Sold it and bought a Road King because he and his wife thought that they'd enjoy the ride and comfort more. They traded it in on a Night Train (softail) less than a year later and 5 years later, they still have it.

Basically what I'm trying to say is, to each, his own. Just pick one, and make it yours, whether it be for style or comfort (You can't have both). I've had my Softail for 6 years now, and I'm still trying different things. I went through 3 sets of bars before I found the right ones. My back has aged a little in those 6 years, so now I'm gonna be trying a cushier seat. After the performance upgrades, I'm putting on a larger gas tank and getting it painted.

I have Buell Firebolt to cure the need for speeding tickets straightening out the corners. But the Buell Ulysis is next on my list. Nice riding sport bike with upright seating position, long enough and very comfortable for two up riding and geometry and ride adjustability to cut through the corners. Just a super fun bike and even better, there aren't many Buells around. I like being able to buy a bike and having something taht is different without having to spend thousands more to "make it Mine". I've got one of those already.

ANd why a Harley only??

why not test ride a bunch of different makes to see what fits you best, or has the best ride?

The GOld Wing is problaby the most comfortable cruiser out there.. reliable, nice ride.. and probably more American made then the Harley (Gold Wing has always been made in the US)

I went to Crofton to test ride the ST1300 to see how it compared to what I ride now, it's supposed to be one of the best Sport Touring bikes out there, and if it's better then what I have then maybe...

Lot of selection, beautiful riding bikes that you can ride 1000 - 1200 miles a day comfortably on.. and a LOT of different frames, styles and suspensions to play with.

Try to find a bike that fits you, and YOU like to ride more then any other, don't base it on what others suggest.

I have a "stupid" question.

I have heard Harley riders badmouth Sportsters, and say that they'd never be seen riding one. Why? They look like nice relatively inexpensive bikes to me.

The Yuppies and the Guppies don't approve.. Harley Snobbery..

I remember when Harley was the bike of choice of bikers.. and you worked your way up to a new one.. You started on a 12 - 15 year old bike that you had to constantly wrench on to get to work, then you traded up to a newer bike.. taking upwards of 10 - 12 years to finally afford a new NICE bike..

Now they want you to not only buy a new bike for the first time rider, but they want you to drop some serious cash on it too.

I look at the Sportster as a nice entry level bike. you can get a new 1200 for +/- 10K according to Harley's website. Neighbor bought a 3 year old one, w/ less than 1K miles on it for about $5500 a year or so ago. It's a nice bike, and he can ride this one for years and then upgrade to a more expensive one down the road.

I just looked up the ST1300...it's only available in black? That seems like a pretty dumb decision on Honda's part.

Last year it was only available in maroon..

But I think the name is "Blackbird", or something like that.. they didn't have any on the lot at Crofton for sale, but someone had theirs in for service, so I did get to take a look at it.. it is a NICE looking bike.. but I agree.. give me SOME kind of color choice.
