Foxhound's sister was down from PA visiting the fam this weekend, so we had her over for a late lunch-early dinner before she left to drive back home. I thought it would be fun to make homemade pizzas, because we like it so much and on the weekends we have a lot more time to get all the fixings and toppings ready. Saturday we went to Annapolis on date night and went to Whole Foods to get some of our goodies for the pizzas. We bought our pizza dough there, and it WAS HORRIBLE! It didn't rise well, and it didn't really have a lot of flavor. The pizzas all came our very flat. I was really surprised because usually everything we get there which is pre-made or pre-prepped is pretty good. Will never buy it again.
But the toppings were awesome!!
I made my own pizza sauce, and we had shredded and also fresh mozzarella, roasted eggplant, fresh tomato slices, sliced leftover half smokes, sliced pepperoni, sliced prosciutto, onions, red & green bell peppers, black olives, and mushrooms.
**I used to MAKE my own pizza dough, it's so easy to make and it's fresh. However, a very good friend told us about the pre-made pizza doughs he finds available at the grocery stores. They're already made and REALLY inexpensive, like under $4.00 for enough dough to make 2 -4 personal-sized pizzas, and really tasty, too. So, we've tried Giant (very good) and Nick's of Calvert (REALLY good). Now that we've tried Whole Foods and had this experience, we won't get theirs again.
