What did you think of Galway Bay? We went there in December before a concert and were unimpressed. Saw it on DDD and thought we'd give it a shot...we were definitely disappointed. Service & food were both lacking big time!

My review:
The Foxhound and I went to Galway Bay in Annapolis for dinner tonight! We had their Corned Beef poppers and "Irish Sushi" Stuffed Cabbage Rolls (corned beef & mashed potstoes) for appetizers. FH had the Lamb Stew and I had their Reuben sandwich for dinner.

We didn't realize today was the "big Croquet game" between USNA & St John's. Downtown Annapolis was just crowded as heck - but we were seated within minutes and had our appetizers and dinner and were out in about an hour and a half. Loved it all and we will definitely be going back. :yay:

As I said, we loved it, and will be going back soon with friends. Annapolis was packed to the GILLS with people and when we got to Galway Bay, we found out why. Still, we asked how long of a wait it would be (it was our date night out and we were not in a hurry) and they said 20 minutes. We went into the bar area, and FH went to get me a drink and his iced tea and we had those in hand right away. Then our host came and got us for a table within *maybe* 5 minutes of that. We were waited on promptly, had plenty of attention from our waiter, had our appetizers within 10 minutes piping hot. Then we had our dinners, also piping hot very promptly, after we had finished our appetizers. (I'd have liked the food to take a little longer, because the appetizers were pretty filling) They brought water and refills right away.

My drinks were perfect, (Bacardi & Diet cokes-I had 2) the food was delicious, service was absolutely fast and courteous. On a super busy evening in Annapolis, I'd say that's a hit! Even the BILL was less than $60.00!!

:yay: they have a fantastic weekend breakfast. My cousins used to be the hostesses there and even when I go without them, the service is always great.

Foxhound loved his lamb stew and it was a huge, generous crockful. I tasted it, and it was very flavorful. (but not too salty like a lot of soups/stews are) The lamb wasn't game-y to me (I'd never had lamb). Because it was a warm day and I am warmer all around these days, :jet: I didn't want something like soup or heavy, so I stuck with a sandwich choice. The Reuben was perfect. Just the right amount of corned beef and sauerkraut and cheese. It wasn't dried out and it wasn't dripping with a gloppy Thousand Island dressing. It was the most flavorful Reuben I've ever had. :yay:

We had the Corned Beef poppers and the Cabbage Rolls for appetizers. The poppers were way bigger than the little bites we used to get at Stan & Joe's. (which I still miss!) They had a big chuck of corned beef and very light beer batter though. Tasty. The cabbage rolls were huge. Mashed potatoes with cheese (I think?) with corned beef wrapped in a cabbage leaf. Both were served with a mustard sauce - both were good. BUT, I liked the popper sauce better and FH liked the cabbage roll sauce better.

WOW completely different experience. Glad you liked it though. It was just meh for us so I dont think we'd go back.

Here's my review from yelp:
When we walked into the restaurant area it was completely EMPTY. No other tables eating. We both had a pint of guiness while we waited for our friends to arrive. Our waitress seemed completely annoyed that we were waiting for them to arrive before ordering food. Which face it we were her only table...the ONLY table so what was the difference if we drank or ate lol Once our friends arrived (5:15) we placed our appetizer order sharing the crab dip bread bowl. It was mediocre at best. It also was not served w/ bread or crackers which is traditional but w/ vegetables (celery & carrots) Cold veggies w/ hot dip. Ick! Not a good combo.

For our entrees we *tried* to order the specials of the day that were listed on their website.(seafood mac & cheese and a lamb dish) Our waitress snapped "I have no idea what you are even talking about" So I pulled up my phone... hmmm well here they are right here on your website. Let me check with the chef. Nope sorry those were yesterday's specials so we dont have those items available. (sounds like someone needs to update the daily specials hmmm daily then) We all went w/ the Irish Rueben. It was pretty good but really soggy. Like they had sat for a while before we were served them. For dessert they were offering an eggnog pumpkin pie for the holidays so we each ordered a slice of that. It had a horrible bitter taste to it...thats when I flipped it over and realized the graham cracker crust on the bottom was completely burnt and black. Nasty. When our waitress came to check on us she saw 4 slices of pies that had only one bite taken from each she looks at us and says "are you guys all done w/ those????" Not is there something wrong. Did these not taste good. So I said yes maam we are they are all burnt on the bottom and inedible. When I showed her the bottoms there was no apology she just said "I'll take that off the bill."

The bill for all 4 of us each having two pints, an appetizer, and 4 sandwiches was $125 w/ out tip

Now I can't wait to try this place. Sounds delicious, and I'll be curious who had the off night: Bann or Lovinmaryland.

VraiChef's Chicken Savoy. It looks exactly like the photos from the tavern's website. Since we never went there to try it, not sure how it compares. I thoroughly enjoyed my homemade version and even sopped up all the juice. Next time we hit the road north towards NJ, we'll stop in and try the original version.

Even the weather is getting warmer I made two pots of soup. Leeks, potatoes, parsnips, and onions. The other soup is chicken, roasted pablano peppers, roasted red bell peppers, onions, corn, and black beans.

Juicy, delicious, cheeseburgers on the charcoal grill last nite. Fresh, crisp, lettuce, onion, mayo and a tomato (hothouse) on a fresh bun. It was soooo goooood....until later that nite....heartburn most of the nite...but it was worth it.

That is hard to beat. Especially this time of year when we are able to finally enjoy some warm temps.

Zested and juiced a lemon and orange, added some honey, olive oil, garlic, salt, pepper, cumin for the marinade. Salad of orange segments, artichokes, olives, radishes, lemon and olive oil. Quinoa, wild rice. Feta and lemon juice mashed into a paste, mixed with seeded and chopped cucumber, pepper, fresh chopped mint served with pita chips.
