Dinner

They don't burn when you do them that way? How many hours do you cook them?
Your are not serious... please tell me you are not serious! Only minutes in a cast iron, not hours. I put olive oil in the pan and get it hot. Smear butter, not margarine, on the steaks and add coarse ground kosher salt and pepper, depending on the thickness of the steak, let them sear 2-3 minutes on each side. Place the pan in the oven at 375 to finish cooking. We like are steaks medium rare so let them cook about 3 minutes more.

I'm in the process of trying to figure out Beef Wellington merely because someone here on this forum triple dog dared me. I have looked up every conceivable recipe I could find and I think I've narrowed it down to the kind of meat I'll need - filet mignon, chateaubriand which I always assumed was wine, or beef tenderloin. That I've heard of. In the past four days, I have set off the detector innumerable times and had a slight, very slight tiniest of flames in the oven. But honestly I think that was blueberry pie overrun and fed four tenderloins to my ever adoring herd of cats.

I cannot cook steak. Period.
:lmao: Its really not hard at all. Beef Wellington I have never attempted, but, may give it a try. Honestly, steak is one of the easiest dishes to make. If I ever make it to a M & G, I'll show you how its done!!

A herd of cats is technically a clowder or a glaring.

My typical "stand by" dinner during the week is salad with grilled or roasted chicken breasts. It's predictable and I like it and it's easy to fix. :yay:

I should add that I did fix dinner for Thing1 - he had ancient grain encrusted Alaskan Cod (frozen filets that I popped in the oven), along with leftover orzo, quinoa & rice blend with steamed broccoli. He loves fish! I don't cook it often enough, so when I found these filets from Schwan's I was so happy. I don't like many types of fish, but I do like Cod and these filets are very tasty!

It actually looks like sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, quinoa & some other type of similar grains mixed in with the bread crumbs. I'm always looking for healthy alternatives for him. He's sedentary and eats out a lot socially.

FWIW, it looks fine to me, but I like my steaks browned on both sides and warm in the middle. It sure beats my leftover McKay's fried chicken and hard rolls, hands down.

@PrchJrkr - have you ever gotten anything from Schwan's? I was never one to buy their products, but since they stop by our office every other week, I took a look through their catalog. They have a great line of "healthier" choices and are super easy to pop in the oven or toaster oven if you don't have time to cook OR are only cooking for 1.

I used to order from them. They have good food. Haven't ordered from them in over a decade so I can't speak to how things are now. They have been around for a looooooong time, so they must be doing something right.

My son likes the Red Baron personal pizzas that come 2 in a box, and he pops them into the microwave. Schwan's has those personal pizzas,(these are NOT in that healthy line!) and they're a little bigger per pizza, so I can give Thing1 one of those and he just pops it into the micro along with his fruit and a single serving size of chips and he has a lunch that he does on his own.

I also get their chicken pot pies - they are awesome done in the micro. Just nuke one of those along a side veggie or fruit -that's dinner. (I try to go by calories and portion control for him)
