Elon Musk becomes Twitter's largest shareholder

While I like what Musk has SAID he thinks about how Twitter has been run --

Not on board yet. I have to SEE what happens. It may well be that millions of libs will now bail on Twitter, because what they WANT is an echo chamber and what they're getting is discussion and debate.

I am trying to grasp the idea that opposing views are just noise, nuisance postings that need to be censored. Libs routinely HATE opposing views, variously accusing them of being wrong, mean-spirited, RACIST (even if it really has no connection to racism) and so forth.

Admittedly I don't have a lot of patience at all with someone who brings a contrary view rife with insults, vulgarities and repeat "facts" easily disproven - with data. (I don't equate opinions, however informed, with facts).

I HAVE discussed all manner of issues intelligently and politely with people - just not often.

I am yet to be convinced that Musk has "fixed" anything, because when you have THAT MANY partiicipants who cannot tolerate opposing views, you're not going to get discussion, but a bloodbath.

Why do you not think that would drive UP the business? It seems that people are more wrapped up into debating their view point and forcing it down the oppositions throat than anything. Hell, just cruise this forum every day. People could just ignore what they do not like BUT... do they? EVER??

I have little doubt that conservatives would love to get BACK IN. But libs want a soap box. I've been to too many forums where the moderators KICK OUT comments from people with conservative viewpoints. They don't want discussion. They want a club to beat people down with.

And I agree. My point is that a lot of people WANT to engage in that debate. They HAVE TO tell you what you should be thinking and that your thought process is WRONG. Hence, I do not believe there will be a mass exodus. Just a shift in who is doing the "point making" and who is doing the "You are wrong because..." arguing.

Twitter employees distraught over Musk buyout, too 'in shock to speak'

The company held a town hall to address employee concerns on Monday

Twitter employees have reportedly struggled with the news that the company is on the verge of being acquired by Tesla CEO Elon Musk with some of them too "shocked" to speak over the billionaire’s plans to promote freedom of speech.

Several Twitter employees expressed serious concerns and fear over Musk’s $44 billion acquisition of the company including a prominent worry that Musk would undo censorship mechanisms they had worked to implement over the years, The Washington Post reported Monday.

"Totally understand that this is entertainment for some," one Twitter employee tweeted. "But please understand that this is certainly not entertainment for me."

"The news today is so crazy I literally forgot I have COVID," another posted.

New York Times reporter Talmon Joseph Smith tweeted that the mood inside Twitter HQ is "absolutely insane" with an internal source telling him, "I feel like im going to throw up..I rly don’t wanna work for a company that is owned by Elon Musk."

I'm just reacting to the massive lib meltdown - oh no, our little candy castle is gone.

The language they're using is hysterical - all the way up to people like Obama - horrified that anyone can say anything.

Unless you PHYSICALLY live in a liberal bubble - that's what most of us LIVE IN even without social media. We are utterly awash in opinions, good, bad, wrong, right and otherwise.

Elon doesn't have the liquidity to buy Twitter. Everyone who knows anything about business at this level knows this. Back in the olden days, he'd do a leveraged buyout where he borrows against the value of Twitter to raise the cash. But that's not really done any longer, and he couldn't do that anyway without risking positions in SpaceX and Tesla.

Bezos launches China conspiracy theory after Musk buys Twitter

Bezos and Musk have been taking shots at one another for years

Amazon founder and former CEO Jeff Bezos on Monday mulled whether China has gained leverage over what happens on Twitter now that Tesla CEO Elon Musk has secured a $44 billion deal with the social media company.

"Interesting question. Did the Chinese government just gain a bit of leverage of the town square?" Bezos tweeted in response to a New York Times reporter who noted Tesla’s reliance on China for its large market and lithium batteries.

Yeah, suddenly the left cares about those.
