Expired Driver's License

I am still going to blame the cop. The forms had the receipt and time of payment, and it was an MVA document. Not our fault MVA provides us with that. Hubby is friends with several cops and they all said the same thing, no ticket. I find it hard to believe cops don't realize MVA is letting people print out temporary registrations.

Cop was a jerk for giving you a ticket in the first place. His mommy probably didn't hug him enough when he was growing up, and he shouldn't be a cop if has these kind of issues.

I think you are full of it. Who carries the reciept and time of payment with them? Why would the judge found your husband at fault if it were not against the law? I can see a rogue cop, but to have the judge back them up makes your story sound like b.s.

What issues did the cop have? What about the judge? The judge supported the ticket. You are really stupid aren't you?

Actually I think the date and time stamp is ON the temp registration.

AND the cop has access to the registration database in his car. He would know before he walked up to the car if they had a valid registration or not.

The cop was exercising, wrongfully, his power.

Went thru the same registration thing, it says clearly on the MVA site to carry the 'printable' temp registration as proof until delivery of stickers and new registration. Sounds to me that the cop that gave the ticket and the judge are out to lunch. So, Cowgirl is not full of it. :neener:

Actually I'm not, but if everything said in CowGirl's post is true, than the cop AND the judge are.

But right or wrong, who the hell is going to appeal a driving infraction and pay the legal fees for correcting it!? Hell of a lot cheaper just to pay it and move on. That's why our books are FULL of illegal, unconstitutional laws. Easier to just deal with it and move on then try to fight it.

I'm not full of it. Doubt me all you want, but MVA gives you a receipt of payment, which we printed out. We also printed the temporary registration and put it in the vehicle, which is what MVA instructs you to do.

Exactly. Hubby already had to pay the fine AND miss a day's wages, so why is he going to take off MORE time and pay a fee to appeal it?

I could have if I had done it 15 days prior to it expiring. Once it's expired, you have to appear in person to get it renewed.

this makes perfect sense. before it has expired you can renew it online without having to drive to the DMV, once it has expired then you must drive there (on said expired licenses, hence breaking the law). wouldn't it make much more sense to have the online renewal open to those who have let it expire that way they don't have to drive on a suspended license? or does that just make sense?

When I re-did my registration on-line, I carried my date/time-stamped receipt with me as proof in the event I was ever pulled over. As a matter of fact, I am almost positive that it is floating around still in my glovebox somewhere.

There is no on-line renewal for a driver's license. You can do that with your registration but not the license. You can renew it by mail, if you get the mailing and are eligible. I'm not because I wear contacts, so I have to do the whole eye test thing.

Bob, I think if it was an indiscretion on his part then the police may not arrest you, but this guy knows it's expired and he doesn't care. Willing to pay a fine and is very matter of fact about it.

I think that's more the issue than driving with an expired license.

I don't care? Where, exactly, did I say that? I had no option but to wait until today to get the license renewed. And there were some things that I needed to drive to take care of, class for example. So, given the choice between skipping a class (losing out on 3 credits and the $1200 in tuition paid) and getting pulled over with an expired license (a $60.00 fine), I choose to drive and chance the fine.

yeah, 2 weeks ago this Thursday. it is awesome! :yahoo: :dye:

I've thought about it but it's not happening. Too big of a risk in my opinion. Plus, I just wear my contacts for a few months at a time. Then pop in a new pair when the old ones get too dirty for me to see through. Almost like laser eye surgery, but without the lasers.

:yeahthat: I went through the same thing. The MVA site says to post in the rear window of the vehicle. The TFC that stopped me had to look at the registration long and hard to verify. You would think that the left hand would know what the right is doing. :lmao:
