Fake online 'friend' led to girl's suicide

Nic, I was trying to give you the benefit of doubt.

Both Vrai and myself pointed out more than once that no crime was committed but you kept coming back. You weren't getting it so I made it clear. :huggy:

I guess you are right. I just felt so bad for this girl that I was just looking for something........ anything.

I am so soft hearted when it comes to kids I guess to the point of being stupid.

If anything comes of this, I hope it is awareness on both ends. For parents to be more attentive and for parents to discourage cyberbullying. I think that there are many parents who simply don't understand the power of the Internet and what goes on. If it wasn't for this place, I may have not know about "myspace" until later or until it hit the news. The Internet provides a venue that can be used for the good or for the bad and it isn't a place that is good for people who have hypersensitive personalities. Of course one would have to be aware of what goes on out there in the Cyber World to understand that.

OH shut up no one likes you any way:killingme

Believe it or not, I am too. That's my main beef with a certain poster on here. I don't have kids but I like em. They should be watched over by a mature, responsible adult. I hate that a 13 yr old died. What a loss.

All I could do is look at my niece and wonder what she goes through now as a tween. Is pressure in school really that bad? Are the kids really that nasty? And the parents how could they do something like and let their kids think it was ok?

Then I think how sad or troubled was this poor girl to have let a few comments for someone on myspace whom she never met get to her so bad that she felt the need to end her life?

I just don't get any of it?!?

It is a shame and I have wracked my brain trying to think of something those so-called adults could be charged with too. Somehow "We didn't mean any harm." isn't setting well for me either. Poor little girl.

Ah. Cyberbullying at its finest. Kids do this crap all the time, but the adults are obviously all mental to do this to a child.

Dear TommyJones

karma your a stoopid whor. i stopped posting that week becasue i went out of town, not in difference to anyones aunt (like i would care). I stand by my point that the accident was the girls fault and you and a bunch of others had a knee jerk reaction. TJ

Jesus, where did you go to school? You are a coward. That is it. Calling me a whore will never change that. You are a sad excuse for a human being. You are the type of person who likes to run their mouths when online but have nothing to say IRL. You are and will always be a pathetic loser.

I am thinking the parents just found out that it was another parent pretending to be that boy...and he was not real which caused a big ordeal.

as i read it at least, they found out approximately 6 weeks later that the boy wasn't real and that those neighbor parents had made him up. Thats why the parents of the girl trashed the foosball table they were holding for the other family.

This was a sad story but my views have pretty much been covered. The parents of the girl should be held responsible for allowing this "relationship" to continue. The mom who started the myspace page should be held responsible (but as far as i can tell, there is no way in the legal system for it to be done which is unfortunate). Finally, the girl was the one who let a simple little thing get to her enough to kill herself. If she let something so petty, from someone she didn't even know, allow this, then it was bound to happen anyway. She would have simply engaged in a real relationship with a boy at school or something, he'd have eventually broken up with her and she'd have been heartbroken and probably killed herself over that. Its unfortunate but, now this is going to get me grief..., possibly this is Darwinism at its finest? She wasn't cut out to handle the cruel abuse this world doles out, now she doesn't have to deal with it.

So, let me see, after this brilliant conversation between two adults. Does any body have a hard time figuring out how a thirteen year old child got so upset that she killed herself?
Children believe almost everything they see (TV) or read (internet). Is it any surprise when manipulated by a devious adult she believed she was useless enough to commit suicide?
There's got to be a law on picking on a child....
