Like it or not, cruelty isn't against the law. You're supposed to be mentally healthy enough that you let the nastiness of others roll off your back. Plus, then we'd have to define cruelty, and I can tell you just from moding these forums, some people have very sensitive ideas of what constitutes cruelty.

My mother is a HUGE John Travolta fan, although she hasn't seen his performance as Edna Turnblad yet.

You know I've been a mod on other forums. It's amazing the number of reported posts I got that were well within forum rules, and were being reported by people I'd had to warn/ temp ban for actually crossing the line.

If these families knew each other, they should have known the child had issues with depression and was on meds. Young depressed teens are the most vulnerable to suicide, and if she had undiagnosed bipolar (which I suspect with the "depression and ADD" labels and she was at the age BPD usually first rears it's head) the antidepressants may have pushed her into a manic or mixed episode.

What also happens alot with these meds, and why they have that lovely black-box warning, is that if you were feeling lethargic from the depression your energy often comes back before the moods lift. Add to that typical 13 year old hormones and the fact that their brains aren't wired to think over long term consequences and there you are.

That there also makes me think she had undiagnosed Bipolar Disorder. The symptoms of manic episodes and ADD mimic each other, and if the mania is mild (hypomanic) rather than ala' Axel Rose it can easily be missed/mislabeled.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt...
