Gas Prices...

Isn't that the norm??
yep. Same goes for RVs...like Sneakers said. Lot of folks are going to take big losses.

It's the perfect time to buy a nice largish (40-60') liveaboard boat cheap though. If you have cash. Nearly all banks won't accept boats more than 20 years old as loan collateral now. I've seen some screaming deals on used Hatteras, Viking etc premium small yachts, where the owners had to accept far less than "book" value because their boat was older than 20 years and nobody came forward with the money they probably should have gotten. Interesting times....Some people are going to make out like bandits but many more are going to see a pretty large decrease in their standard of living.

I can't tell which way our business is going to go but I think it will be mostly "up" since our primary customers these days are offshore wind operators and various naval vessel projects.

Just sneakin' around....
I've been toying with the thought of a decent sized houseboat, but there isn't anyplace that I'm aware of that will harbor them year round.

My son lives year around on a Hatteras 41 ...covered slip in the Tall Timbers marina. There are several other liveaboard boats docked on the same section of slips as his. It is definitely a much cheaper option than even the cheapest rental apartment you can find around here. Before he got the boat, he was paying over $800/month for a tiny efficiency (2-room) 2nd-floor apartment in L'town.

The marina charges more per month for liveaboard slips but still only about $400/month plus electricity.

Interesting..... well, maybe I'll keep a weather eye out for a houseboat... ;)

Interesting.
The only "downside" to my son's marina life is the fact that the fresh water to his dock gets shut off Dec-March to avoid freeze damage. Has to operate off the onboard tanks and carry some in. The marina has a bath house though (two actually0, so he has options to reduce water consumption when the dock system is shut off.

Would a boat fridge be big enough?
Good question. When my 32' is docked, which is most of the time, the fridge is full of nothing but beer. When we take the boat for a trip, the large deck cooler holds the beer., so that we can stock the ridge with food. But that deck cooler needs ice, of course. On my son's Hatteras, the galley fridge/freezer isn't much smaller than a typical apartment appliance and he has a large 12V-powered chest cooler in addition to that.

So that's a solid "no".

Did anyone hear the full interview with Peter Franchot on TBone and Heather this morning?

It sounds like although the 30-day repeal of the state gas tax may be signed today, we will not see an immediate price drop at the pump, if ever. There will be a delay because the gas in stations' tanks has already be taxed, and there's no mechanism to keep station owners from pocketing the savings.

Not surprised, but I had that filed away in "meaningless political stunts" already anyway.
