So what did you mean then? How would you FIX the problem? Create a Socialist state? Federal control of the oil industry?

Are you going to talk to me, or bark in my face and assume that I'm a Marxist all of a sudden? Contrary to every post I've ever made in the past.

The fact is, I don't know how I would fix the problem. Its not my job to fix the problem. I do know however, that there is a problem, and I believe there is a solution other than the population collectively taking it up the tailpipe - while these companies rake in record amounts of money.

If that makes me a liberal douchebag, then so be it.

I quoted your post...same place you went. :lmao:

And there is a WaWa in Dunkirk, near the Safeway.
$2.93 this morning for 87. I experienced shortness of breath when I saw the other two are more than $3.

What I want to know is why are the prices sooo different in the same damn county? Charlotte hall wawa was at 2.65 this morning and I bet that the wawa in california by bj's was atleast .05 cheaper. Thats what I cant understand. I can county to county differences due to taxes but thats about it.. This is getting nuts..

That would depend on what price they paid for their last shippment of Gas.

WaWa in California was $2.79 at about 6:45 a.m. Leonardtown prices are always higher than the California prices, also. I don't get it either.

Thats a no brainer if you consider the fact that what you pay for gas is Taxed to death.
Lets just say 50% of the gas price is taxes.
50% of $3.00 is sure a lot more than 50% of $1.00
Gas ,Tires Cigarettes and Alcohol are Taxed to death. The Government, more than likely makes more money than the manufactures on these items.

As far as the oil refineries in the gulf. That's a sorry azz excuse.
We have 3 just in Richmond VA And another dozen or so in PA and if I recall there is also one in Baltimore. This isn't even counting the ones spread out through other states like TX, OK and CA.

The real picture is the Government is creating revenue through raising Gas Prices.
In this day and age of the Internet, why do people still speculate and make up numbers instead of just doing a little research? I found this link in less than one minute.

http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/oog/info/gdu/gasdiesel.asp

So let's not say the 50% of gas prices are taxes. However, the 19% that is taxes (fed, state, and local) could certainly be temporarily reduced. Also, the market fixes the prices, not the government, so how is the government creating revenue again?

Apparently EVERYONE in Maryland is looking for that website... the server isn't taking anymore hits.

Well, it was costing me $300 a day to fuel up my 18-wheeler last week... wonder what diesel is going for this afternoon...:dead:

No, I think you already had a partial solution. Invest in Big Oil, reap the profits along with them, and then we can afford the increased gas prices. :yay: There is no fix other than to 1) decrease government taxation on fuel, 2) conserve and live within individual budgets, 3) reinvest in any commodity that shows increased growth.

I never barked at you. You must be feeling a fuel crunch.

Uncle Charlie

Beer is Good!!!!
Every tanker load changes the price

Everytime a station gets a tanker load of gas, they adjust the prices because they say that load costs them xxx dollars. THAT'S why you see the same stations, only in different locations, with different prices.

I drive 75 miles to my office one-way each day. Fortunately, I own my business. I informed my staff this morning that I would only be coming in 1 or 2 days a week, the rest I would be tele-commuting which is fairly easy for me to do in my position. Even having a car that gets 30 miles to the gallon, my gas costs have gone from about $50 a week to $125 a week, and that was at $2.79 a gallon, not $3 ++++++.

EVERYONE should ask their employers if they can do the same thing, if it is feasible.

I told you to trade that in on the Hybrid Hemp model.

Well, they did that. As far as I can tell, these cuts aren't being passed onto the consumer. I could be wrong - but $2.49 at the pump doesn't lead me to believe so.

This is what I do - I ride the bus. It's 20 bucks a month - much cheaper than gas. However, this is not a valid option for the folks in Southern Maryland, though - that I'm aware of.

That's awesome if you have money to invest in the first place.

Could be.

Or it could be that you were throwing terms at me like "Socialist state" and "Federal control", when I've never said anything of the sort, and my posting history (as far as I can tell) wouldn't suggest that I'm in favor of these sorts of "solutions".

This daily and hourly raising of gas prices is ridiculous. I know there is not a damn thing I can do about it, but its really pissing me off. I DO NOT see the reasoning behind it.

In all, more than 92 percent of the Gulf's oil output and 83 percent of its natural gas production was offline due to evacuations and shut downs completed in advance of the storm.

More than a quarter of the nation's oil and gas comes from state and federal waters in the Gulf of Mexico.
Refinaries Shut Down due to Katrina

Company Location Capacity
Chalmette Refining Chalmette, La. 190,000
Chevron Corp. Pascagoula, Miss. 325,000
ConocoPhillips Belle Chasse, La. 247,000
Marathon Oil Corp. Garyville, La. 245,000
Motiva Enterprises Convent, La. 225,000
Motiva Enterprises Norco, La. 240,000
Murphy Oil Corp. Meraux, La. 125,000
Valero Energy Corp. St. Charles, La. 190,000
TOTAL 1,787,000

Reduced production

Exxon Mobil Corp. Baton Rouge, La. 493,500
Valero Energy Krotz Springs, La. 83,000
TOTAL 576,500
Katrina disrupted the processing of 2,363,500 barrels a day or a little over 16 billion barrels a week from our 233 billion weekly average. This is 8 percent of our refining capacity and as such demand now exceeds supply. Until the operations are restored we will be paying higher prices as the remaining refinaries cannot makeup for what has been lost.
