So only CERTAIN rules apply to CERTAIN people in the Bible? I didn't see any notation on each quote stating that. Can you tell me what I posted applies to everyone then?

If you read the Bible, it is obvious what was written as Jewish law and what is commandment from God.

I asked you to explain it to me so I could understand. If you won't, then don't bother with my posts.

Nickel

Here's my opinion on the bible : A lot of it has been passed down, generation to generation, by word of mouth, and translated many times. Anyone who's told a story knows that after awhile, the concept is still there, but the minute details might be a little fuzzy. Also, anyone who knows a foreign language knows that ideas or details get lost in translation (i.e. in english I would say "My name is Nickel", but in Spanish, I would say "Me llamo Nickel", which translated literally means "I call myself Nickel"). Therefore, the stories, concepts, and "way of life" written in the bible, I believe are true, but you cannot tell me that however many years after whoever wrote the bible or each of the Gospels is quoted 100% in the bible that I have sitting in my bedroom. It's impossible to literally translate from Hebrew or Greek to English and still make sense, so there has to be some ad-libbing there, and who's to say that when John or Paul or whoever told their story to someone, that this someone told the story exactly the same way, and so on and so forth, until it was put on paper? I don't know how that relates to the issue of homosexuality, or anything else, that's just how I feel about it as a whole. Do I believe that the bible is the word of God? Yes. Does anyone follow the bible to the letter? Certainly not.

I rarely get into religious discussions because they usually incite me beyond reason. This topic is is no exception, but I just can't let it go this time because it hits home.

:yeahthat:

If a man commits adultery with another man's wife, both the man and the woman must be put to death. (Leviticus 20:10 NLT)

Curtains for you, too. :ohwell:

Dang I really tried to stay out of this, I just can’t……..

Just a question: What breaks up our family structure more, adultery or homosexuality? I am weary of the rhetoric about homosexuality and the bible. Last I checked, it isn’t one of the commandments….don’t get me wrong, I have my views on the homosexuality, which I will keep to myself. They are not all the flaming in-your-face gay types. Most actually keep to themselves in such a way (normal looking and acting according to hetero standards), you may never know if someone is or isn’t. All I can say is that, while I respect 2A’s opinions and knowledge of the scripture, I get the feeling that 2A has little (real) life experience with gays versus adulterers.

2A, to you, my first question is in my first question above.

My second is: How many gay people have you met that have had a direct [negative] influence on our family structure versus those married folks [yes mostly us men] hitting on any woman who catches the eye?

I have seen so many families ruined because of the inability or lack of desire to work for a strong marriage, very few ruined because of someone being gay.

Again, 2A, I respect your opinion, however I believe would hope your focus and energy would be to teach our younger society how to build a strong family structure rather than to focus on how “wrong” some think homosexuality may be. I believe you can "convert" an adulterer (more of a threat to our family structure) through education, faith and scripture a bit easier than you can “convert” a person who is gay (less of a threat to our family structure) through the same means.

Just my opinion

Just a question
Ooh ooh! I bet I know the answer!

The bible says "no dude-on-dude" action, so that's the way it is and you don't question it because the bible said so!

Or something along those lines.

It's a losing battle, Mr. W, but I admire your spunk. :huggy: I used to have spunk. :frown: I've been de-spunked. :ohwell:

I consider myself very much Christian. Therefore I do not judge. Danm, lets think about that one......I question alot, hammer my Priests every Sunday. He and she are up to the task. I love it and love them...no they are not gay but I do have a female Priest....hummmmmm....another thread topic???

I feel your frustration KJo, but it's not a losing battle to educate the misinformed. I am a very strong advocate of "Family." Not to be confused with the "Family Values" rhetoric as some political parties pander about (and conduct their personal lives to the contrary). I will always fight for the "family" structure. :boxing:

Oh, forgot to :huggy:

Truly, I feel your pain. :huggy:

Just a question: What breaks up our family structure more, adultery or homosexuality?
:yay: Great question and one I've thought about myself quite often. I've seen more marriages destroyed by adultery than ANY other cause. I will go a step further and say I've seen more RELATIONSHIPS destroyed because of infidelity than any other cause. I guess I'm an old-fashioned kind of person, but when I pledge my heart to someone it MEANS something and is very, very special to me and not something I take lightly.

My second is: How many gay people have you met that have had a direct [negative] influence on our family structure versus those married folks [yes mostly us men] hitting on any woman who catches the eye?

 Again, I heartily agree. I have never seen a marriage ruined by somebody "going gay." I'm sure it happens, but the overwhelming cause for relationships to fail is because of a roving eye and a lack of respect for your partner. Teaching people strong moral values and to respect their commitment to someone else REGARDLESS of being married or not should be of the utmost importance, NOT persecuting people for loving whom they love.

To me, it's just that simple.

Excellent point. We're supposed to believe that there's an epidemic of family men deciding to turn gay and run off with Raoul the pool boy? That's ridiculous. I think claims like that are just irresponsible fearmongering.

Perhaps it's more of a :banghead: than a losing battle. I do get tired of having bible quotes thrown at me. And I was once told by a member of this forum that I am not a Christian because I don't believe every word of the bible. I'm pretty sure that's supposed to be an insult.
