Anyone know where i can get pink and white Gel Nails that don't use a powder in waldorf area? Not the gel polish that is thin but doesn't chip but actual gel that has to be filled in but I do not want tips or powder. They do it this way in VA but everywhere I have tried in Waldorf uses powder.

you mean acrylic pink and white but with gel? I've never seen this method...bc around here if you're trying to describe it using the term "gel", they're going to think you're talking about actual gel manis..the thin kind.

the way i understand it, using powder is acrylic. I only want gel on my own nails but it's a thick gel that is cured under uv light but you have to have it filled in as it grows out - not the thin gel polish.

Have you tried Escape in Waldorf? I'm not sure they do it but they're really good so they might do it. I haven't had 'fakes' in forever. I know, I know "they're my real nails, just with gel on them"....still, I call 'em fakes if you need to get a "fill"

I get pink and white (powder) acrylics and they sometimes paint them with the thick gel instead of clear acrylic polish at the end. The finish lasts but I have to get them filled about every two weeks because they grow out. I have never had just the gel nails so I can't help you there. Perfect Nails in La Plata.

Its not in Waldorf, but, Charlies Nails and Spa in La Plata are great! They do the pink & white gel. They are on Chesapeake St. Across 301 from the Safeway and Target.

Not to hijack the thread but I had fake nails done a couple months ago at Queens in Pinefield. My nails keep breaking due to all the farm/critter work I do and I wanted my nails to be stronger so I tried the acrylic nails (powder). I didn't like the look - they made them too thick and they had a hump and LOOKED FAKE. Maybe it was just the guy who did it that way and I could have asked for the look to be different? 2 weeks later I had a fill done once and still didn't like them. So I spent the next couple of weeks prying those things off my nails OMG is that stuff strong! I ended up peeling off part of my nail bed and it hurt like heck! Will be a few months before my nails are grown out and normal looking again.

Anyone have any luck with a way to harden nails that 1) doesn't cost a fortune and 2) looks REAL? I am starting to think the "gel" is the way to go?

I disliked the acrylic for the same reasons you do, so I started using gel and I'm much happier with it. It doesn't rip off the top few layers of your nails and needs less maintenance.

Why not try Shellac? That's a strong polish that acts like a gel

Yea, pink & white is not the way to go if you don't care for the "fake" look :lmao: I don't mind them bc I used to always get them before gel and shelac manis became a thing. But my roomie turned me on to gel manis, and if I wasn't so broke I'd always have them done with gel! For awhile I could keep up on going every 2 weeks. Kims in LP is our go-to and she always does fun designs for us. We just show her our pinterest nails and she does her magic :yahoo: When I had the manis all the time, my nails were definitely stronger. But once you stop, it takes a little bit for them to grow out so its best to always keep up with them, or not at all.

Also, whether I get acrylic, gel or shelac, I always keep my nails quite short. My hands just look weird with long nails, but mostly bc I'm a clutz and always manage to break even the hardest of nails on something if they're too long!

Oh my, you need to sit down and soak them off in a bowl of acetone! They will come off easier but your real nails will still be crap underneath. No getting around that with acrylics.

Even as thick as the acrylic nails were, I managed to break several of them doing critter chores - when I went to the salon to get them fixed (and a fill) they looked at me like HOW did THAT happen? Oh well. I don't get long nails either because I have so much I need to use my hands for dealing with the critters, but I am starting to think I'm stuck with my own nails and I may need to be more careful so I don't break them as often?

When I'm too broke to keep up my gel manis, I keep a couple coats of nail strengthener clear polish on them. Sally Hansen puts out a couple types. If anything, while it strengthens my nails, they look shiny with the clear coat and they look a little less bland than completely bare :yay:

OH and for acrylic, no matter how "thick" they are, keeping them from breaking off depends more on the quality of the powders used, (yes salons have choices in this), the skill of the nail tech (sorry but the asian ladies got this down pat...tried going to "white girl salons"....horrible.), and if your natural nails have been properly prepared for the acrylic to adhere to them. Same kinda goes for gel too...have had a few bad techs who didn't take their time and that's when the gel wears away quicker or chips easily, in my experience. :yay:

I have something like that on now - just a different brand - HOOF Coat or something like that that sounds equestrian-related lol

Me, too!! I got my nails done for some special events in June but they just aren't conducive to my work environment. I also didn't like how bulbous they were. My hands get wet, oily, greasy, and dirty on a daily basis and I haven't found anything that works :( Even the shellac didn't work for me.

I saw a recommendation on the internet to soak cotton balls in acetone and wrap them in foil around each nail so that they heat up and come off easier. That worked for me but you're right, my nails are still really fragile and peeley.

I've only tried nails a few times but I've never gotten two weeks out of them before they started to come off. Not just pulling up on the edges but actually coming OFF off. This time I got around 10 days out of them.
