Got a Ticket, now what?

Yes I believe I don't deserve the ticket. For me right now, almost $200 is worth a fair bit of effort.

The dollar amount isn't as important as the points if it were me. How many points does this carry? I got a speeding ticket a few years ago that was 500.00 and 5 points on my license then had to take a class because I wracked up 5 points in one year. I drive muuuucccchhhhh slower now and have a radar detector. I'm getting into the trend called "hyper mileaging" - I literally coast to a lot of places saving gas, its almost a challenge to see how far I can get without giving the truck any gas :yay: Becomes kind of fun sometimes - so long as now one is tailgating you and it saves in gas, speeding ticket fines and points on license. :yay:

$25 and community service. Contact the State's Attorney office

Is this done before or after the trial? How does it affect points? What constitutes community service? Can it be anything if I can make a case for it?

First things first:

Is your record clean? Was this in St. Mary's county?

If the answer is yes to both, go to the States Attorney office in Leonardtown with the ticket and $25. They have a list of options that you can choose from. Depending on what's available, you could be picking up trash in a park, washing police cars, mopping floors, or just about anything else. It's a matter of what they have available, not what you want to do.

:yeahthat: I did traffic control at Earth day in Leonardtown once.
Sat in a lawn chair and made sure nobody drove past the orange cones blocking the street unless they were on a list of vendors. Tough job.
Had to bring my own chair though :ohwell:
NO POINTS if you do it.

I washed an ambulance once. Was suppose to "serve time" from 8-5 but after I washed the 1st ambulance he told me I could go. Only took me about 2 hours.

Also helped serve food with the optimist club. Had to serve 8 hours and they kept me 8 hours

I got the term wrong, I'm a hypermiler - here... this shows you a little of what its about if interested. I guess my commute got just a little tooooo boring for me... hypermiling makes it a little fun challenge each way :yay: http://www.motherjones.com/news/feature/2007/01/king_of_the_hypermilers.html

Interesting. I think the guy in this article is a bit insane, but paying attention to how often I hit the gas would probably be a good way to save money.

I've never had any kind of ticket or otherwise in MD. I live in Anne Arundel.

How would I know? I don't see anything on the ticket about it.
In MD, it's one point for every 10 mph over to posted limit.
Community service is usually 8 hours for each point.

I was cruising down Pegg Rd. the other day with the whole family in the car and I know I was speeding, but not much. Suddenly a cop goes by me on the otherside of the road and he does a U-turn behind me and comes up on my butt and turns on his lights. I was FU##! (I didn't say it, just thought it) So I pull over to the right and he PASSES me and gets the guy way up in front of me! PHEW!!! :jet:

That was my heart attack for the day! I slowed down for the rest of the day! :lmao:

If you were speeding and go to court the judge won't care why you were speeding. They hate excuses.
:yay: I have rarely seen an officer proven to be wrong...and requesting calibration for radar equipment is flirting w/disaster! :jameo:

You have a right to review the evidence against you in a criminal trial. If the state/county does not provide the information, ticket could be dismissed or court date postponed. If the unit is out of calibration, there is no evidence that you were speeding.

So it was 2 points then. Freaking great. That's what I get for following the speed of the traffic around me.

What do you mean? If I request it and there's a discrepancy or it hasn't been checked in more time than recommended, I should be able to get the ticket thrown out.

 so it's not that you're not guilty of the charge, it's that you were the one unlucky enough to get caught. :bawl: :killingme

301 from Waldorf to the Nice bridge is desginated by MD State popo as an agressive enforcement zone

Pay the ticket or do the community service. Your welcome.
