When I got my VA ticket, the judge told me points assessed in VA won't show up on my MD driving record.
... but insurance companies will still see it.

and this is what really hurts.

Here's another example of what's wrong in this day and age...
Someone does something wrong and all they can think of is how they can Blame someone eslse or Get out of it. No one fess'es up and takes the responsibility.

My opion: Pay the ticket or community service and slow down.
What an excellent post. :yay:

I wish I had written it.

Ok. I got tired of reading all the posts.

Go to court.
See if police officer is there that cited you.
If he or she is present, ask the judge for community service.
If he or she is not present, plead not guilty.
Either option results in no points on your license.

You can ask the judge for community service? Others have been saying I should talk to the attorney general. What if the judge says no? Can I talk to the attorney general then?

Call the STATE'S ATTORNEY office for the county in which you were ticketed. That's who is in charge of prosecuting you in court. Once the judge talks, you're all done.
It's a frigging phone call, how hard is that?

The reason that I'm pushing this is because if I go to trial and there's no cop, I'm done. Of I can still do the community service option after the fact, then that would clearly be the best option.

Probably not as hard as paying the fine for something that you know you did wrong.

to get community service in St. Mary's, you need to make arrangements with the State's attorney prior to trial.
Call the State's Attorney in the county involved and ask them how it works there.

I am probabaly wrong but I thought that the rules for the cop actually being present had changed. When I had a ticket 2 years ago the officer that pulled me over had told me that he did not have to be present in court. I also have 2 brothers that are police officers. I believe one of my brothers told me the same thing. It is hard to arrange everyones court dates around a police officers schedule. If he is on a call he won't be able to go to court. I'm just babbling. I'm sure someone will be on to set me straight :killingme

I would ask the states attorney just to be on the safe side.

OH WAIT. Now I remember. On the back of my ticket it stated that the officer did not have to be in court if I chose to fight it. Look at the back of your ticket and see if yours says that

Holy crap, there are alot of holier than thou'ers on here. The guy admitted he was speeding, I don't see any denial on his part (he fessed up later in the thread). He's trying to get out of points and reduce the fine. Obviously the state offers that as an option (PBJ and community service), why would he not look into taking advantage of that? Some of you are acting like this guy robbed a store or something.

Yes do it. They will ask you if you still want to go to trial or just pay the ticket. Just tell them you do not want the points on your record. The only time I paid was because the judge look pissed and state attorney offered if I pay double I wouldn't get the points or you could go in front of the judge and try the hard way.

Yes I believe I don't deserve the ticket. For me right now, almost $200 is worth a fair bit of effort.

I just got caught in the speed trap near AP Hill/Bowling Green and was going 72 in a 55 (yes, I know, I'm a bad girl, lol). My ticket was $145. My first ticket ever, but I should have known better. That area is always ticketing. My 3 year old said she had to pee so I booked it to get to I-95 to use a restroom :lmao: . She still managed to make it, even after a long stop with the cop.
I thought that excuse was one of the top ten to get out of a ticket..

If i was a cop and someone told me their child had to pee, and I looked and the kid had it's legs crossed, I'd let them go.

In the 70's if that had happened you'd take your kid out of the car and let him pee on the side of the road while the cop was writing the ticket.. if you do that today they'll give you a summons for dumping raw sewage AND indecent exposure.. and probably 3 or 4 other violations..

So it was 2 points then. Freaking great. That's what I get for following the speed of the traffic around me.

Here he states that he was going with the flow of traffic. This doesn't indicate that he wasn't speeding. He is saying that he doesn't believe he deserved to be ticketed. Obviously, he DID deserve to be ticketed. However, he's asking how he can take advantage of state approved point and fine reductions.

Danged straight. I'm a safe driver who was safely speeding on a road with a limit far lower than it needed. Note that I never drive this road so I had no idea what the limit was. Missing the signs was an honest mistake and I don't think I deserve a massive fine for that.

If I can get out of it completely, I have no moral issues doing that. If I can pay a reduced fine with community service, I'll do that too.

Wasn't this a back road?

:roflmao: You are such a victim, aren't you? If you were charged with 50 in a 30, what was your real speed? That should be circled on your ticket next to where they entered the speeds you are charged with.

You started out wanting to challenge the accuracy of radar that caught you speeding. You admit that the radar caught you doing exactly what it said you were, yet you want to waste taxpayer money by making the police prove what you already know, that their radar works.

Now you want sympathy because you were too oblivious to be aware of the speed limit on the road you got caught on. Distracted drivers are the biggest threat on the road today. It sounds like you are one of them if you don't even know aht the speed limit is.

And saying you were with the flow of traffic is pointless.

That's like saying, "He should've pulled overyone else over to."

There must've been something that triggered you being pulled over - flowing with traffic wasn't it. And, they (if it's Charles) wouldn't give you two points for that.

I'm guessing, either:
You were going a little faster, passed the cop, or passed some other cars.

Maybe there was something with your car, similar car reported stolen, or maaybe you just had a taillight out, that triggered him to pull you over and not someone else.

But you weren't keeping with the flow of traffic, were you? You were the only car on a backroad somewhere. :tap:
