Attatching a poll. Y'all know how I'm voting - considering Dixie Chicks aren't country anymore. Their music is played on MTV, not CMT.

They are a little more mainstream now.......they have a lot more listeners since they are also playing on VH-1 and not just country.......

Yes they are talented, but you can't help but think there is a connection between their Bush bashing and their resurgance in popularity with the liberal's running the Grammys.

I think they are talented, but not enough to win a Grammy, but then again didn't Eminem win a grammy? lol

If it hadn't been for the Bush thing, they would not have won the Grammys in the fashion they did the other night - sweeping all the top honors they were eligible for. It's a rare feat for even the best musicians in the history of the Grammys to pull off, and *they* got it? Go ahead and check it out - winning all of the top awards almost never happens. I'm especially amused by the fact that they won the country award when they no longer consider themselves country artists any more.

This isn't their best album to date, they sure weren't the best country stars this past year, and that song isn't even terribly memorable, nor is anyone likely to remember it in a year's time. (I'd never heard it before the awards show).

I'm annoyed that everything has become political. I'd hate to see the most politically correct team win the Super Bowl or the most politically correct gymnast win the Olympics. If you happen to agree with the Chicks, consider how you'd feel if exactly the opposite had occurred - that someone of somewhat average ability was granted full top honors BECAUSE OF their unfailing support for the war or for the Republicans. Why can't I just enjoy something without someone connecting it to the war or the Republican Party? Because the thing is, after the war is over, these same folks are still going to BE political - just about something else.

Previously, I just didn't play their CD's (and I have all of them but the latest) because they have a right to be loud-mouthed jerks. Now I truly despise them. Their music is never welcome in my presence again, and I'm destroying their CD's.

Nominated. Didn't win.

DID win two MTV awards, but that award ceremony has always been a bit of a joke.

Funny thing, their last 3 CD's went:
Wide open spaces (1998) 12X Platinum
Fly (1999) 10X Platimun
Home (2002) 6X Platinum
Top of the World (2003)Gold <--Live CD
and this CD, Taking the long Way (2006) 2X Platinum

Spiralling CD sales coupled with cancelled tour dates clearly show a downward trent in their appeal to mainstream America.

Actually, I think Eminem is far more talented than his peers, but I still don't care much for his music.

As for the Dixie Chicks, I think it was political, but I don't care about the Grammys. I voted for don't know/don't care.

You made some awesome points. But I'm still amazed at the silence from the rest of the entertainment industry. I know there are musicians out there that knew they sold more, drew larger audiences and gave more for the industry but didn't win. The basically got dissed for the politics. Why isn't there outrage from the losers that knew they should win.

The other part of this is these wins will not sell the Chicks more records. Since their mounthy debacle their record sales and concert attendance have plummeted. I also tried to do a search on their ratings and couldn't even find them in the top ten for the past 2 years (maybe some folks could help on this).

Their CD sales isn't a good barometer, considering the state of the music business right now. I-Tunes and other internet downloading services are killing music sales. Actually, selling 2 million units is an incredible accomplishment in this day and age.

Perhaps a bigger story is why radio stations that are owned by Clear Channel, which by the way was a major contributor to both of W.'s presidential campaigns, still refuses to play Dixie Chicks music.

Personally, I couldn't care less. I'd rather listen to nails on a chalk board than anything played on CMT. My only problem with what that cross-eyed Dixie Chick said was the forum that she chose to use. If you want to bash Bush, do it all day long..... but do it HERE in the U.S. I think you have a certain amount of responsibility when you go abroad as an ambassador of the U.S. We are a family; a dysfunctional one for sure, but a family nonetheless. A family shouldn't air it's dirty laundry for all to see; we should settle things in house. She broke that cardinal rule.

Agreed. If you're going to say "I'm ashamed he's from Texas" - say it in Lubbock; say it in Houston; say it in Galveston or Dallas or El Paso.

Sales are a fairly good barometer, however, in the time frame we've been looking at. So are concert cancellations - when you have to cancel events because you can't sell enough seats, and you used to sell out within HOURS, yes, things have changed. When you go on record admitting that sales have plunged but NOW, it's about the music and we're "artists" - you've turned a corner. And when the industry awards you with accolades they haven't given to the likes of a Streisand, Wonder, Lennon or Dylan - it's a joke.

It couldnt be because the stations that Clear Channel owns, listened to its Customers (Listeners) who didnt want to hear the Dixie Chicks?

nah, because a Profit Hungry, Capitalistic, Sell your Children Corporation would never try to earn money by following the wishes and wants of its consumers.

She expressed her opinion. The thing she has done wrong, the same as yourself, is not respect the Opinion of the Country Music fans, who dont want to listen to her dribble anymore.

I guess I was willing to let bygones be bygones a few years ago - but then they started to trash country fans in general, and country music. Then after they apologized, they retracted their apology. I'm tired of this crap. It's bad enough that movies and TV are full of stupid political crap. I'm annoyed that the music industry is that way too.

God, will I have to live my LIFE listening to this stupid bickering? Like I give a crap about liberal or conservative, most of the time?

The crux of the matter is many people just don't like the little pug anymore. They like having a happy picture in their head when they are listening to a tune and not some sniveling loudmouth who blurts out something, then recants and cries to Diane Sawyer, then recants that, then becomes the Newsweek magazine poster child for victim hood, then recants the previous apology, then diss's their fan base.

I like their music but they ruined it because when I hear Maines belt out a tune the mental pic I get is a snarling spoiled brat.

The point here is the liberal crowd who rule the entertainment industry threw them a bone not based so much on artistic excellence as they did for anti establishment rants.

You have to wonder since we are on the award show topic, how many award shows do these artsy fartsy multi millionaires need to create for themselves? Grammy's, AMa, CMA, Golden Globes, Oscars, Peoples Choice, MTV, ACM, damn :jameo:

Me? I "recognize" them as legit if they've been around for a long time. The Grammy's, like them or not, have been around for almost 50 years. Golden Globes, a little more than fifty years. People's Choice awards ARE kind of a joke - they've have the same sponsor and network for thirty years, and they're not really "judged". They're done by polls. Same for the AMA.

I guess if you get enough work in Hollywood, SOMEBODY is gonna give you an award, even if it's one of the MTV stupid categories.

I never disrespected anyone's opinion. I don't like country music, but I respect anyone's right to like it. It would be a boring world if we all liked the same thing and there's no right or wrong when it comes to anything as subjective as musical taste. Secondly, I don't really think you can consider the Dixie Chicks "country" music at this point. I would describe them more as "pop" or "adult contemporary".
