Yes a $523.00 fine and 5 points off this person's license and was advised to take the court route and hope for community service. :ohwell:

5 points off meaning:

this person lost five points....or....

lost five points and would get them back by paying the fine?

Not sure how you came up with the hypothetical number of "8 hours" service.... I would think the judge would expect more than that.

cop told this person it may just be 8 hours comm. serv. when asked how long :ohwell:

I've asked folks here at work and they think this person should hire an attorney to get it down as much as possible -- I disagree. :frown:

I wouldnt hire an attorney over a possible 500 bucks.

Hopefully the cop wont show up at court...

Only 8 hours for that many points and $$???? I got 8 hours for a sober fender bender, and had to set up fireworks once for my speeding tickets(2). Generally they ask ladies to do cleaning or office work, and men get to plants flowers, and wash police cars. You can request something like that, or you can ask to volunteer at a place you would like to serve your time at, say, the center for life enrichment or a church.

What are you suggesting this person should do... are you suggesting this person should throw themselves at the mercy of the court and hope that the judge is in a good mood that day thereby awarding 8 hours community service as payment for the dasterdly deed...

I would go and represent myself in court and vigorously defend myself. I would pound on the lectern and school the judge on law. Tell him what you demand and let him know in no uncertain terms that 8 hours is the max you will accept. I would not let “The man” put me down. Further I would explain ad nausium how it was not my fault.

why not just go for broke then and let him know one would negotiate and only settle 1 hour of community service

But if it's a church, or working with animals, homeless, etc... this person wouldn't mind doing 8 hours... every weekend though might be too much.

:yeahthat: I'm sure the judge will see it was all a silly misunderstanding and there is even a chance for complete pardon. :yay:

I'm not going to be too happy if she ends up sitting in my office for contempt.

But seriously, dems... you seek council from all that is Pete, yet I sense you are withholding important details. You are dropping hints here and there, willy-nilly and only allowing him to guess at the crime at hand. You are doing a disservice to your hypothetical friend and to Pete by not spilling the details. :ohwell:

I know what you will do, you will go in there and roll over. You are going to get pushed around.

I was late because I lost my truck keys this morning and spent 20 min. looking for the blasted things and then I was speeding and got pulled over.. no big deal it was a 70 in a 30mph zone. It was an accident, I didn't realize the cop was sitting there. I'm thinking about saying I was testing out my new fuel pump when I get to court.
