I find the Noah's Ark story creepy

Then you see the words, straight from the Bible and you still have too much pride to admit you were wrong. C'mon. I'm not looking for an apology or approval from anyone. I never judge anyone. God handles that. You misinterpret my sharing of information as me judging someone. I don't twist the word, it says what it says. If you don't believe it that's ok. You are right about changing people though and I work everyday on myself and believe me, I have alot of work to do.
I don't think she was wrong. She interprets the bible differently than you. You interpret the Bible so literally, and I don't think that's what one is supposed to do. Like Pix and someone else said, I think that the Bible is a book of stories and fables that should be used to guide someone on the path to Heaven. There are too many discrepancies and too many interpretations for me to take the Bible literally. And your statement that you never judge anyone is ludicrous. Try re-reading the gay marriage and fat threads. Then get back to me.

And that my friend was exactly what I was looking for! It's fine to "repeat" what you think God is saying as long as you follow it up with but I suck eggs and have a long way to go before achieveing sainthood. If you want to be really wise you'll go as far as admitting that the Bible is not always right and that understanding it's text is sometimes dayum near impossible.

Anyway, I hope you feel better now. I'm not trying to upset you but I think you need to have an "equal and opposite force" just to keep things on the level.

You're right, Tonio. People should definitely be able to say they believe in something, but ignore the more unsavory aspects of it and pretend it never happened. Hell, Democrats do it all the time.

This is why there's such an uproar about The Passion. People want to believe their sanitized Sunday school version of the crucifixion. They think Jesus looked like Ted Neely and didn't really suffer on the cross. :duh:

When does the dumbing down end?

My grandma reads the Bible everyday and reads the whole thing about 8 times a year. She knows all about the Noah's Ark by heart. She says the world was all wicked with sodomites and gamorites and mennonites. Noah was the only good one and his family and some animals. I remember somewhere it says "It rained and it poured for forty daysie, daysies" and I believe it. My grandma knows more about it than I do, but she used to tell me about it and the story about the lion's den and the three men who refused to burn up and Samson with his head chopped off. She LOVES that Bible and reads it everday between her TV shows and during commercials. Sometimes she reads it at the top of her lungs and especially the red words. One time she thought she lost it and got so excited she nearly quit breathing. It has color pictures and has one of Noah and his ark and the rain is coming from the sky and NOT the ground.

In the gay marriage, I just repeated what is said in the Bible. I'm sorry if you don't agree, but that's where I stand. The fat threads were a joke anyway. But sarcasm is not right and can hurt the feelings of some. I don't judge.

I'm with Kain--the Bible is so full of contradiction that I don't believe the "dumbing down" argument really applies here. Every denomination of Christianity has a different spin on the Bible. That's why I have little use for religious doctrine, like whether Mary was born without staint of original sin, or whether Christians should abstain from eating meat on all Fridays or only on Good Friday.

But you're right about the Passion, which I haven't seen. Crucifixion was a horrible method of execution. Bible movies made before the MPAA ratings couldn't show all the gory details. And Jesus Christ Superstar was a musical, where brutality doesn't put butts in the seats.

You are totally right about religions. Many of them put a spin on it, for their own benefit. You don't have to go to church to be saved though. That's why I have never been a strong advocate of religion, just the Bible.

The Bible is perfect, but you can read throughout the Bible where Man will sin and make mistakes. I say what I said, to insure I don't take any credit and when people look at my life and try to judge me I always point to the Bible. The Bible lays out the way you should live, but we don't always make the right choices. Understanding is a gift.

But how do YOU choose which one is correct?

If I go to a church and the pastor is preaching stuff that's not in the Bible, I leave. Or if I go to a Church and they don't want me bringing my Bible inside, I leave. That's just what I do.

WOW! That's amazing! I never heard of a church that don't let you bring your Bible! This kid in my Sunday School was always forgetting his Bible and the Sunday School teacher gave him a copy of "Our Daily Bread" to take home and he had to write a book report about it and bring it back the next week. One time he said his Bible was in the car and the Sunday School teacher made him go out and get it and he didn't come back. That Sunday School teacher told his dad and his dad beat that kid right out in the parking lot and everybody circled around and watched. That kid hated that Sunday School teacher and always called him a b*ttcrack when he wasn't around.

B/c I do not beleive in that book. Can't speak for Tonio though.

If you want to know what the Bible says about Salvation then read on, if not don't.

You still have time. Salvation is free. You just need to believe in God and that he sent his son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for your sins. Believe this and confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior, ask for foregiveness of your sins, and you are saved.

Your rewards in Heaven are the only things that are based on your works here on Earth.
