See? NOW you're talking! :yay:

I think prisons should be reserved for people convicted of violent crimes, or who otherwise pose a serious danger to society. I'm sure the people who had their savings wiped out by Bernard Ebbers or Jeff Skilling would long to see those guys do hard time. But I don't think it's the best use of the taxpayers' money to house and feed them at public expense. I would prefer to make them forfeit their millions and put them to work on chain gangs or some other kind of servitude.

See, and I think people convicted of violent crimes should be executed, leaving plenty of room for non-violent offenders. :jet:

Back to traffic and accidents on 235 for a sec. I just realized why people tail gate. It's to keep others from cutting in between them and the car in front. Why do these people cut in front of you? Usually to get past a slower driver. My conclusion from this is that if everyone would PICK UP THE PACE there would be less accidents from tail gating and aggressive lane changes. :lmao:
Come on folks, drop the hammer tonight on your way home! We'll just try it one day and if it doesn't work out, well, it would be fun.

Doesn't the law state that if you are in the intersection prior to the light going RED you are legal? So it isn't like those vehicles are running the light they just got stuck by it.

It has always been my understanding that if you didn't look across the intersection to make sure that there was room for you on the other side, you ARE at fault for being in the intersection when the light turns red. I know it goes against human nature to plan ahead, but that's the way it is.

I would push for a traffic light at 235 and Loveville Road, except that the light would probably promote growth in that area. That's a bad intersection for some reason -- people get impatient to cross the highway. 235 and 6 at Korner Karryout and Capt. Leonard's was bad, but the state angered a lot of people when they redesigned the intersection to prevent people coming north from Morganza-Turner Road from crossing or turning left. Another bad one is in front of the Bean Center.
So pretty much any intersection that requires someone to put the cell phone down and take their head out of their azz is dangerous.
We're back to "You can't fix stupid", all you can do is erect a tacy roadside memorial.

Increase fines and jail time

We don't need anymore laws to enforce, we need to make the ones we have, hurt!

Set the fine for speeding at $50 for each MPH over the limit, no reduction by judges. Don't have the money, 1 day community service for EACH mph over the speed limit.

Quadriple all other current fines for other traffic offenses.

Also, have the fines INCREASE to double the original fine with each offense if less than 1 or 2 years has passed since your last ticket for the same offense. Kind of like compounding interest.

Fleeing and Alluding a police officer. 2 years in jail, revocation of your driviers license for 2 years after release from jail.

MANDATORY jail time for 1st time DWI offenders of 6 nights, 3 week day and 3 weekend nights. 2nd offense, 6 months with work release after 1 week. No judges allowed to reduce this. 3rd and subsequent offenses, 1 year, no work release for the 3rd offense and add 2 years for each subsequent offense plus a revocation of their drivers license for a minimum of 2 years.

Driving without a license, suspended license or revoked license, 12 months work release for 1st offense. 2nd offense and more, no work release, minimum of 1 year. Charge them $50 a night for the "room and board" privledge of work release.

You have to do the same with drugs. We have PLENTY of laws, we just need to PUT PEOPLE IN JAIL and / or HIT THEM HARD in the wallett. Guy gest busted for simple possesion 2 or 3 times, he gets diddly squat and he knows it. Throw his Ass in jail for a good amount of time and some other people might think twice about the crime.

Problem is, you have to get the members of the House of Delegates and Senate to agree to this and they won't because they are habitual offenders of the motor vehicle laws.

Short of that, stop giving out warnings. Require deputies & troopers to write tickets and require them to write multiple tickets for multiple offenses. You cannot stop people from doing what they do, but you CAN make them pay for the "privledge" of abusing and violating the laws.

Problem is, people get away with too much, the fines mean nothing to them because they are so small and because we don't punish them for multiple offenses. You want people to obey the laws, you have to make breaking them HURT!
