iPhone versus Android

What is your battery life like with your Bionic? My Bionic will eat through its battery in 4-6 hours of playing games. Other than the battery life this phone is AWESOME! I turned the 4G/LTE on while on JBANAFW and it screams through pages. My buddy who has the iPhone 4 commented "Wow, thats a lot faster than mine!" He is on Verizon also.
I have the extended battery and it is great. On my old Droid 2 if I used it much during the day it would die about 7pm. I mean shut off dead. When I say use I mean read/sent emails, maybe look up something on the web or send 4 or 5 texts. That is with bluetooth and wifi turned off. So far on this one I have done all my daily stuff and had some long calls and I have not passed the halfway point before I plug it in at 10 or 11. I don't play games so no idea how much that would impact it.

Hopefully they've fixed the bug where your internet connection just drops. I had the phone for a week (shortly after release) and I noticed it do it several times. I was in a full service area. I could make calls and text, but 3g went away completely and wouldn't come back for 5+ minutes.. sometimes it wouldn't come back at all until I rebooted the phone. When I googled the issue, it seemed to be widespread. Other than that, it was an awesome phone though. I hope you are issue free! (Is that really possible with phones today?)

I did love the battery life though. It would last a full day if I didn't use it for games/video. Whereas my Incredible will be almost dead from 6 hours of just idling.

I haven't had that issue. I drop 3G from time to time but it is typically when I am moving and have 1 or 2 bars and it comes right back.

I've got the Thunderbolt and LOVE it! Hubby -- who has an iPhone -- really likes my phone, too. BUT, he'll never own anything other than an iPhone. He's an Apple follower true to the heart.

yeah it's a good phone. it has minor glitches but nothing that tragic.

Overall, the iPhone is a simple phone with an easy & closed market. It's pretty nice and works well. But it's not customizable and it's a one size fits all option. Android is eventually going to surpass and wipe the floor with iPhone, but in the meantime either one is fine. I prefer to pick the type of phone I want, what I want on my phone, and the various options. But there's nothing wrong with people who want the security blanket offered by Big Brother (Apple).

I had to beg verizon for an early upgrade when my phone bit it, (1.5 months early) and they agreed ut said no 4g or iphone. Meaning, basically all I could choose was the droid 3. Bummed. I was looking foward to the bionic or rzr.

still, its a great phone..but the battery life is awful. phone is dead by 3 or 4 with light use, texts, a little surfing, maybe one phone call..wifi and bluetooth off. It seems, through the battery useage manager, that my "display" is eating the battery..I turned the brightness all the way down and the off timer to 30 seconds..what else can I do? its worse than my droid and the battery is sup to be bigger :(

Too bad, I was just about to add a Droid bionic to my gift pack to go with the terry cloth robe and the fancy cigarette holder.

A bunch of phones have the same issue. My T-bolt has that too. It's all about the display according to the battery manager, but I think part of it is the poor service in the area and the phone always searching when you put it away. I don't know what the deal is. Before people criticize android, I've heard similar issues with iPhone.

Android is eventually going to surpass and wipe the floor with iPhone, but in the meantime either one is fine.

If you're talking about market share, Android is already dominating both worldwide and in the US. Android has over 50% of the worldwide smartphone market share and a little over 40% of the US smartphone market share. It's prolific because there are sooooo many options and they are evolving much faster than iPhones.

I was thinking about the Market as well, but that too. Eventually the iPhone will be "just another phone", since over 50% of market share for hundreds of phones, compared to ~40% for an iPhone is still a significant win for Apple.

Try ~20% for the iPhone...

how is it closed ?

have you Rooted your Droid yet ?

with 100,000 + Apps I would not call it closed ....... hardly

my work issued BB did the same thing ......... drains the battery @ home trying to stay connected

when we switched carriers - same phone - to T-Mob and I could connect to my wireless, the phone would last days with not use, not so constantly trying to connect to a cell tower

Android has dozens of free tethering and hotspot apps...

You can pay VErizon is you want, but do an apps search in the market place and you'll find several.

Does Verizon have a way to tell if you're using one of the free tethering apps?

Depending on the phone and what has been put into the OS, they can block you from using them. Trying to use them results in being taken to the Verizon web page where it tells you to sign up for tethering service. However, there are ways around with root (which you needed anyway to make them work in the first place). As for whether they can tell...maybe. I've heard reports of people getting slapped with charges, but they are the people who abuse the capability.
