I can understand the worry about gas Mileage. no problem. I can understand the issue with kids and new seats, whether it be cloth, leather or whatever.

WHAT I CAN'T understand is why not a single person thought about spending $20 on seat covers. There are 100's of different styles available that can be easily obtained to match your car...AND they protect the original "new" seats. What a concept! They're removable and washable! :shocking:

For cryin' out loud, they even make special ones for your damn dog!...with pillows or without, faux lambswoool, vinyl, flannel...whatever! It's all out there.

Do they make them for back seats? I've seen some really cute Polo bear ones before. I'd dig those on a big SUV. :yay:

I bought seat covers for my new seats in the jeep...front and back at Autozone for $16 ea. They looked like OE. Now I've got flaming skull seat covers in for the front. Got them at Autozone for $25 ea.

Why do people try to drive a car they can't afford. If you can't afford to maintain it or put gass in it just shut up and get rid of it. If you think the car you drive tells people what kid of person you are, you're right. You're a self centered retard. You and your car go around the world. NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND.

The Lexus is so expensive to maintain. I remember when I bought my 4-Runner back in 1999, and I stuck my Ford Explorer out on the side of the road for sale. This girl came along and snatched it up after she was creamed in her Lexus (not her fault) and the insurance company totaled it.

I sold my Suburban (V-8) back in Oct and decided to just drive my husband’s truck (a V-6) instead of the F350 we purchased to replace the Suburban, and we bought a little 4-cylinder Hyundai for him to commute back a forth to work. When we did the math, this little switch along with buying a new car saved us more per month on gas that the vehicle would actually pay for itself in less than 2-years. Of course those figures were based on gas prices in Oct. 2005, they’ve gone up since then.

NegativeNancy,

I don’t think it is a matter of driving a car you cannot afford. It has come down to gas prices being at an all time high, everything associated has gone up as well, so consumers have to make more economical decisions even if that means they have to give up some luxuries in the vehicle.

Dear I don't know what I talk of,
I got the car when I was 23 with only one child and have never had a problem paying for it. I can totally "afford" my car. What my choice comes down to is now I'm a little bit older with 2 children and am apt to making wiser choices. Just because I can afford the car doesn't make it the smartest choice. I can afford to flush $5 down my toilet every day; doesn't make it smart now does it?

That's the choice that's facing me in the mirror when I go to buy a new car. I can get rid of my car and buy something equally nice that will make me feel all warm and fuzzy when I drive it but when I look in the back seat at the dirt on the carpet and the toys scatered on the floor I'll again feel like I just flushed that $5 down the pot. Thus, I've decided to wait until my pigs are older to get a nice car again.

It's not a matter of affordability; it's a matter of being smart and if you were smart you wouldn't assume just because someone doesn't want to throw money away on a high dollar/high gas consuming car because they have higher priorities like children that they can't afford one.

I've decided I cannot have another "nice" thing until my boys move OUT.

They break more, destroy more, crap now than they did when they were little. :ohwell:
