Ok - but this wasn't a head shop, it was the early 80's and it sold - sells - actual herbs, spices etc. They might sell that now, but back then, it's where I bought stuff you couldn't get in grocery stores. One of those was asafetida - a spice that smells and tastes like garlic but doesn't stink up your breath.

We were in Spain one year and wanted to buy some saffron, couldn't find it to save our lives, store clerks thought we were crazy. We finally heard a lady speaking English she was an expat and asked her, she laughed and said you are looking for Azafran or Con Azafran hell that stuff was everywhere.
