Loveville Produce Auction

More on this:

Let's say there is a flat of 12 pints of blueberries up for auction. The price you are bidding is per pint, not per flat. So if you win with a bid of $1, you will be paying $12 - $1 per pint.

There might also be a lot of 3 flats of, say, squash. You are bidding per flat, and if you win you can take two or all three - the auctioneer will specify. If you only take two, the last person bidding against you will be offered the other flat for the price you won.

The auctioneer starts high - "fi' dollar, fi' dolla bill" for a small watermelon, for example. So wait until he goes down or someone else starts the bid before you jump in.

And like Jedi said, don't be afraid to ask questions because the people there are very nice and happy to help.

It really isn't difficult to get the hang of the auction at all. The small lots auctioneer was a little hard to understand. Intesesting produce though some of which I had never seen before; orange eggplant, chocolate cherry tomato to name two.

Go, you will enjoy it. If nothing more for the people watching ..... wowza ! Some of Saint Murries finest there.

How many people would you guesstimate were in attendance?

I am so very blessed
My haul from today's auction. And the camera angle didn't really capture the lushness and bounty of all that I picked up this morning.

I'm already overwhelmed with how much stuff I have to can/freeze/cook in the next day or two.

Despite my whining, I have to admit, I love this shiat.

She makes some AWEsome Bread and Butter pickles..

I was going to go but my father in law talked me out of it. He drives for the amish and goes there often and told me I would not really save anything by shopping there.

Edit to add: I am still hoping he was wrong and may go just to see.

I swear, BG, I am coming to your house to shop from now on. Want to open up the BG/Bob grocery for your friends? :)
