Quite frankly, the USA would be a much better place today if MLK was still around.

Are you stating that having any respect for Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson would imply someone is racist or a bigot?

:coffee: Well of course not. I promote respect for everyone - even for those that are dead.

I was just pointing out that those two rebels are traditionally reccognized heroes for racist and bigots.

Who exactly are you speaking of? What racists and bigots are you saying traditionally respect these civil war giants?

:diva: I see no reason for me to name names.

In todays society most racist and bigots try to hide their racism and their bigotries and I like that.

The idea is for me to expose the sins but not the sinful people.

When persons express their racist and bigoted feelings then they expose themselves.

So tell me, how many of those that died fighting for the South actually owned slaves? How many of them actually had a "dog in the fight", or did they just answer the call (willing or not) and died for their country.. or part of their country.

What makes their lives any less valuable than those given in the North?

Someone dies in a valley of musket balls while trying to reach his wounded friend on a battlefield.. it doesn't matter what side you are fighting for.. He would be a hero.

Saying that I believe there were THOUSANDS if not MILLIONS of hero's in both the North and South does not make me a racist.. it makes me a realist, and a little more attached to reality than you.

:coffee: Both Jackson and Lee were brillient military generals for their time, but they fought for an unjust and immoral cause.

The best thing Jackson did was to get himself killed,

and Lee did become a hero of sorts when he surrendered the rebels over to the American Army.

Well, JPC, apparently not everyone thought that Jackson and Lee were bigots and racists. This is an interesting article you might want to take a look at & note that they were not all slaves either but many were free men:

:coffee: This is a sad part of American history, and it gets to me.

There were blacks that picked the cotton too, and black concubines for the white rapist.

The black soldiers were not fighting for the rebel's racist cause. And even if you or others might believe that the poor ignorant blacks were actually fighting to maintain their own slavery then it makes the sins of the white rebels that much more despicable and dastardly.

Do the pompous whites now say those black soldiers were free and fighting for their own slavery? or the slavery of their own race? Are now the racist whites of today pretending that they were slaves and fighting for the right to remain slaves?

The horrible African slavery was more then just forced physical servitude because the immoral whites psychologically abused the black people with beliefs of inferiority and breaking the black slaves as they do in breaking a horse so that the prisoners give up all of their human rights and their human dignity.

This is an example as to why many rightfully claim that the American African slavery damaged the black race in ways that still keep many of their decendants down to this day.

The self righteous whites broke the slaves will-power and broke their sense of pride and violated their sense of personhood, violated their families, violated their sexes, exploited their children, and even after the war was over the whites continued to degrade and to brake the decendants for another 100 years until the civil rights marches that began a process of repairing the extreme damage done by whites to the African Americans.

The civil rights reforms did not end the white bigotries but it did start the process and there is much more that needs done.

The Civil War was not solely about slavery. It was about Southern states wanting to secede from the United States. Many freed blacks fought on the side of the South because they had plots of land they were working as sharecroppers and/or as freed men and they did not know what their fate might be if the North won out. Others fought because they were loyal to their state and they believed in what they were fighting for. Those black soldiers have an important part in Civil War History and their role should not be downgraded as something they were forced to do or something degrading for them to do. Do you have any idea how long it took for those regiments to be included in History books? It used to only get mentioned during Black History month. You - the one always advocating that somebody is being a racist - are trying to turn this important Historical Moment into a disgrace.l

I almost asked the question (again) how opposing unfairness with more unfairness (i.e., Affirmative Action) is supposed to solve anything, and how supporting all bebe momma's youngins (i.e., welfare) is supposed to teach them independence...

... but then I stopped and remembered the lazy societal leech I'm addressing. So I will carry on, as I am sure you will.

:coffee: The Southern States wanted to secede from the USA because of their immoral African slavery.

The slavery was the reason for the US Civil war.

I can see why some whites want to distant themselves from the ugly past but this kind of dishonesty is the wrong way to do that.

:diva: Well that is not what your link says. It says the whites told the African Americans that they would gain their freedom from their slavery if they fought in the war.

And it seems highly unlikely that the whites would have honored that decietful promise considering the Dred Scot decision of 1857, link HERE.

So where did you get that nonsence about "free" blacks fighting "for" the rebel cause? out of loyalty? as you claim. Give us a link.

:coffee: I did explain in my previous post how the African slaves "soldiers" were violated but that reality is missing from the link you gave.

You and those pretenders are not doing the black people any favor by printing an incorrect history of our un-civil war.

You - the one always advocating that somebody is being a racist - are trying to turn this important Historical Moment into a disgrace.l

and even more of a disgrace when some foolish white people try to pretty it up. :bigwhoop:

JPC - I reread my link and gave you the examples you evidently failed to notice when you (supposedly) read it. They are below:

Not only did Jefferson Davis envision black Confederate veterans receiving bounty lands for their service, there would have been no future for slavery after the goal of 300,000 armed black CSA veterans came home after the war.
3. Free black musicians, cooks, soldiers and teamsters earned the same pay as white confederate privates. This was not the case in the Union army where blacks did not receive equal pay. At the Confederate Buffalo Forge in Rockbridge County, Virginia, skilled black workers "earned on average three times the wages of white Confederate soldiers and more than most Confederate army officers ($350- $600 a year). 7. In 1864, President Jefferson Davis approved a plan that proposed the emancipation of slaves, in return for the official recognition of the Confederacy by Britain and France. France showed interest but Britain refused. 11. In March 1865, Judah P. Benjamin, Confederate Secretary Of State, promised freedom for blacks who served from the State of Virginia. Authority for this was finally received from the State of Virginia and on April 1st 1865, $100 bounties were offered to black soldiers. Benjamin exclaimed, “Let us say to every Negro who wants to go into the ranks, go and fight, and you are free…Fight for your masters and you shall have your freedom.” Confederate Officers were ordered to treat them humanely and protect them from "injustice and oppression". 19. During the early 1900’s, many members of the United Confederate Veterans (UCV) advocated awarding former slaves rural acreage and a home. There was hope that justice could be given those slaves that were once promised “forty acres and a mule” but never received any.

Not everything that Jefferson Davis and others tried to accomplish for the Black Confederate soldiers came to pass but, as can be seen here, efforts were made and their sacrifices were appreciated and the situation was not the big disgrace you are making it out to be. After all, the South did lose. These soldiers fought and died with honor.
