Medical treatment refused

bcp

In My Opinion
I was thinking, with all the thoughts that people in the U.S can get medical attention if needed, it would be helpful in the healthcare debate to have some examples of people that were refused service in a medical setting due to the lack of ability to pay.

Im not talking about a tummy tuck, or some other cosmetic procedure, I am looking for the millions of examples where someone was hurt, or sick, and they were unable to find assistance anywhere.
Im also not looking for those cases where people were just too lazy to seek the help, or for whatever reason they didnt know they could walk in and get the help.

real refusal, as in, Im having a heart attack but I dont have insurance,, and then the ER people throw you into the street.

looking forward to reading all of the millions of cases that are real.

i went to brenton medical when i was having a heart attack and they told me that they wouldn't see me because they didn't take my insurance. they told me to go across the bridge to the urgent care over there. Funny, they took me in the back because i was describing the stereotypical symptoms, but before i could see a doctor they came back and said they couldn't see me.

not exactly what you were looking for, but bordering on it for sure.

I don't know why people do not understand that it is illegal. If you come to the ER with a sniffle...we absolutly have to see you, diagnose you, and treat you. Ridiculous. I look foward to all the "stories" I'm sure this will generate.

but, regardless you DID get directions to a facility that would treat you

Story does not work with the general question.

I don't doubt your honesty...but there are calls allll the time for ambulances for people having any of those symptoms...from medical offices, including Breton Bay...all the time. I am not positive but I am fairly sure that if you are displaying chest pain or some such they are supposed to call for an ambulance or have a family member drive you.,

what they may be suspposed to do and what they did are two different things.
I complained of chestpains, not being able to get my breath and being sick to my stomach, they said "wrong insurance go away".

i said it might not be a perfect fit, but it certainly does show that some medical establishments put the dollar well before the health of the patient.

did they tell you to go across the bridge to urgent care, or did they say go away?

I do know that when I had my heart attack I went to anne arundle med center, they transfered me to Washington Hospital Center because they were not set up to do stents or open heart.

they said they didn't take my insurance so they wouldn't see me, after i was taken in the back as a priority patient because of the chest pains and such.

i went to solomons and then via medvac to calvert and then to washington hospital center for a stent...

That's not an ER, nor a hospital, and going there suffering from what you think is a heart attack.. well...

but in the first post you stated that they told you where you could go for help.
regardless of all of this, you have not shown a lack of care available to anyone.

being in excellent physical shape and only 36 at the time a heart attack was the last thing on my mind. In fact it was almost misdiagnosed as pnemonia (sp) at solomons, but the chest xray showed an enlarged heart. then they did a blood test and off to the hospital i went.

So they didn't turn away someone having a heart attack? YOU didn't know you were having a heart attack.

You didn't know until after the fact that it was a dire situation, in turn they wouldn't know..

So at the time you weren't seeking emergency care, you were seeking care, and they pointed you to a place that WOULD accept your insurance.
