Mission BBQ

You people need hobbies. :lmao:

We tried Mission today, I thought it was pretty good. Not the best BBQ I've ever had, but it was good enough to warrant some future visits, plus the staff was friendly, good service, and the restaurant was clean.

Plus - they had Natty Boh. [/thread]

I agree. We went Friday for lunch and were pleased. We both had a brisket sammich. They had an option of regular (I think they called it dry) and that is what my wife had. I decided to try what they called "wet" and liked it better than the wife's. Wet simply means it's taken from the section of brisket that is a bit more fatty. No big chunks of fat in the sammich, but it was indeed more "wet" and I liked it, a lot.

We'll go back to try more options. Saw some folks with the chicken on their plates and it looked really good. Sausage looked good, too. Ribs will be my next choice and how I will compare them to Smoky Joes.

Inside, nicely decorated with a military (mostly Navy) / Football theme.

Staff very friendly and helpful.

We went last night. It was pretty late so the place was nearly empty.

Ok, as a disclaimer, I live on a plant based diet, so keep that in mind. My husband is a hard core carnivore that has taken grilling meat to a near snobbish level, which I support and find entertaining. We try all the restaurants simply because we are curious to see how other people make food.

I had the mac and cheese and the banana pudding and a fountain drink. I think the portions are kinda small but in a good way. They seemed really appropriate for the price and they were the kind of small that looks like it won't be enough food but totally was without leaving us so full we had to fight the urge to unbutton the top button of our pants. They had some neat bottle sodas that I haven't seen since I was a kid like Big Red and RC Cola. If you try to avoid meat, this is not the place to eat unless you're ok with having, like, 4 very unhealthy options that still contain animal in some way (Yes, I know, it's bbq place so it's not reasonable to expect meatless options but it's important to put out there because I almost never have a hard time finding food anywhere anymore because places like this usually have an excellent array of sides - I am not knocking it, just putting it out there that this isn't one of those places). The mac and cheese was really tasty, the banana pudding was excellent.

The husband had some kind of combo. He got some brisket, turkey, cornbread, and mac and cheese. He really enjoyed trying all the sauces at the table. The plates (trays?) are really neat and handy, so much so that we're considering finding something similar for our house. He said Myron Mixon would probably hit the brisket for pulling apart so easily but he really enjoyed it. He loved all the food, actually. He had a PBR in a can, which he thought was cool to get a cheap, easy beer to enjoy with his bbq.

So, we both ate, he had a beer, and I had desert, and the total came to $21. We had a pleasant experience. We'd go back and we'd recommend others try it.

MMM, good review. I am not a super big BBQ guy, but i do love good M+C and corn bread, would probably try the sausage to go with it. Will try to hit it up after the novelty wears down and am down that way again.

What I'm not seeing is the typical new restaurant growing pains in the reviews.

True. I looked for that too, but they really seem to have their #### together. Granted, there is no table service, which is a big problem for a lot of new joints, but nevertheless it was a good experience. There was one young lady who was talking to folks in line, explaining the background of Mission BBQ and how they prepare their food. I found it interesting and pleasing that they do not have freezers or microwaves at all. There was also a guy patrolling the seating area checking on you and able to answer questions if you had any. We talked to him about the different sauce choices and he was easily able to answer without sounding like he was searching for an explanation and BS'ing you.

Girl and I tried it today and were pleasantly surprised. She liked the pulled pork and loved the mac and cheese. I had the baby back ribs and baked beans. I ordered 5 ribs and received 8. Our order was called before I even had a chance to sit down. We both brought home leftovers.

Rode though the lot today looking for stuff at the grocery store. Sure smelled good. Lot was packed and this was about 2:30.

Had dinner there Friday and loved it. Brisket, baby back ribs, and pulled pork were all done very well. Had the mac and cheese as well and it as great. Service was, as everyone has stated, fast and friendly. Each table has a combination of 6 different "regional" sauces to choose from. None of them really knocked my socks off, but were decent. It would by nice to have a sauce with a mesquite and/or hickory kick.

Having moved here 3 years ago after living in Texas for 10, we've been missing proper BBQ that we all very much enjoyed the other evening. We will most certainly be visiting again. Only regret was that I didn't have room to try the banana puddin'. Next time...

Thumbs up for us. :buddies:

$100 Vrai goes this week.

I was actually going to run over there this evening before it started storming.

But I say that and the hot money is on that I never set foot in there. I was one of the people excited about Cracker Barrel and haven't been there yet. Haven't been to Smokey Joe's in close to a year.

I know, I gave up my poking too fast. But tomorrow is another day and I'm sure I'll be able to piss someone else off. Heck, that motorcycle person got all bent out of shape and I didn't even have to work at it.

As one of those "motorcycle people", I do want to note that the person who got bent out of shape claims to never have ridden a motorcycle:)
