Me too. I *still* don't understand why the press is so incensed that Dick Cheney did not *immediately* think of THEM first, after he accidentally shot his hunting buddy. They've been told everything. Nothing is hidden. And it's not an issue of national importance - it was a hunting accident. It happened Saturday evening - they got a call early Sunday afternoon. I can only guess the reason they're p!ssed is, they missed a chance at a feeding frenzy on the Sunday morning shows.

While Dick might have gotten the story out sooner - I think the rabid behavior of the reporters *proves* his point. From the way things have been handled in the last couple years, I don't think they give a crap about getting the details *right* any more.

The guys on WMAL this morning were saying that, to many, like Maureen Dowd, Harry Whittington couldn't *DIE* fast enough for them. What kind of person actually wants some guy to DIE just so they can get even with someone they don't like?

Wouldn't that be a great headline:
"Senator Clinton Doesn't Know What Type of Government the United States Is"

This is all like a grade school playground fight and the Republicans better start fighting back. With all the ammunition they have, I just don't understand why they don't counter attack.

Because when we start fighting back they may realize they look like idiots and start trying to quit acting like idiots. Never interfere with someone shooting themselves in the foot. You distract from the reality of it.

The only problem with that is the 'fence sitters' that don't keep up with what is going on, will only get one point of view.

They'll do that anyway. The media is under no obligation to present both sides of a story. After Cheney's interview, I flipped to CNN just to see what the kids were talking about - they were excited that Cheney "admitted" he had a beer at lunch.

Message sent to Senator Clinton:
Senator,
Regarding your comment as reported by the AFP, "The refusal of this administration to level with the American people on matters large and small is very disturbing, because it goes counter to the way our constitutional democracy ... is supposed to work.", I think it is extremely sad that a senator and former first lady does not know what kind of government the United States has.

The United States is a constitutional republic, not a constitutional democracy. If it was truly a democracy, there would be no senators or representatives; the people would vote on all laws and appropriations.

The VP was acting as a private citizen when the accident happened. It had NOTHING to do with the conduct of the administration in running the Executive Branch. IMO they had no constitutional duty to immediately go public with what happened. Furthermore, if I had accidently shot a friend while hunting, who would have notified S.M. Today. Not me or a member of my family and I'm quite sure Pax Public Affairs wouldn't have either. Where would the press have gone to get information pretaining to my accident? Ding Ding Ding, we have a winner! The Police! Why should this case with the VP be any different?

I don't even care about that part of it. My :twitch: moment was her having the gall to comment on BushCo being nonforthcoming when her dear hubby spent 8 years doing the exact same thing.

I think that was the only real problem here. I have no problem with the whole avoiding the press part. But what does give me a little heartburn is that the VP didn't talk to the police for 18 hours after the incident. Now if this had been anyone else, as soon as the Dr saw the gunshot wound, he would have called the police and the shooter would have been compelled to talk to them. Cheney got to wait until the next morning. It shouldn't be any different than if he was a regular guy. If he was drunk (as has been alledged) he should have taken his lumps just like i would have had to

By who? You? One beer makes you drunk? You sure are a lightweight.

Cheney must be far more robust than you. One beer does not make him drunk.

I didn't alledge anything, but the theory has been batted around by quite a few, and not all of them libs. It sure would explain why he didn't want to talk to the police until the next day.

Anyway, it sure is convienent for cheney that we will never know for sure.
My point is, if it had been you 2a, or any of us, we would have had to talk to the police right away or lawyer up. And you can garuntee that if we offered that we had had a beer we would have been tested.
