The VP was acting as a private citizen when the accident happened. It had NOTHING to do with the conduct of the administration in running the Executive Branch. IMO they had no constitutional duty to immediately go public with what happened. Furthermore, if I had accidently shot a friend while hunting, who would have notified S.M. Today. Not me or a member of my family and I'm quite sure Pax Public Affairs wouldn't have either. Where would the press have gone to get information pretaining to my accident? I think that was the only real problem here. I have no problem with the whole avoiding the press part. But what does give me a little heartburn is that the VP didn't talk to the police for 18 hours after the incident. Now if this had been anyone else, as soon as the Dr saw the gunshot wound, he would have called the police and the shooter would have been compelled to talk to them. Cheney got to wait until the next morning. It shouldn't be any different than if he was a regular guy. If he was drunk (as has been alledged) he should have taken his lumps just like i would have had tomrweb said:
