C-A-P-S CAPS CAPS CAPS!
:yay::yeahthat: Or anywhere in the Charlotte Hall area.

I'm only responding to the few who knew what I was getting at in my previous posts, and weren't just looking for a fight. We live about 4 miles from Mechanicsvilles firehouse. I think their chief or assistant chief lives at the end of our road (has a chiefs buggy out front of his house). Our neighbor is a volunteer at Mechanicsville. That's our nickname for him, because whenever they have a call, we know. He gets in his truck and goes hauling ass out his driveway, lol. I/We in no way, have ANYTHING against volunteers. So for those who understood what I wrote in my first post, THANKS! I'll repeat it one more time: My husband VOLUNTEERED for YEARS and lived at the firehouse. Most our friends are volunteers who still live in the firehouses. Which, by the way, I've been meaning to ask... does St.Marys County have live-ins?

Somebody had said they hoped we didn't move back to SMC because of the Solomons station by us failing all the time and why didn't we volunteer (or something like that). No, we didn't move back to SMC because of that reason (wtf?). #2, besides the 1st reason I posted about my husband volunteering, that particular Solomons station had a lot of strict rules for their volunteers. I can't remember the specifics, but I think they have to sleep in a certain amount of nights, be there so many hours, and some other things that were pretty out there. I'll ask my husband if he remembers (or if someone on here knows their rules.. this is the station on Little Cove Point). Him and our two friends went there and inquired about volunteering because at the time, we all lived in CRE and my husband and the 1 friend are drivers (which are needed everywhere), and obviously that station needed help terribly. That one major reason is the only thing holding my husband back from volunteering again.. trust me. He lives for that stuff.

Lastly, sorry I forgot to answer before, but yes the girl was in a booster seat. Did anybody ever hear how she was doing??

As for paid positions, like others have said there's no guarantee that response time will be any better. Try going to the ghettos of NYC and having an auto accident there. There are many, many times that the first responders can't even respond to an accident scene because they're all busy with shooting victims, domestic disputes, violent attacks, etc. It's common for it to take an hour for them to arrive at an accident scene. So when I read that someone was complaining about 5-15 minutes, I was amazed. To me, that seemed pretty damn good!

Alright one thing only... why do you think the response times are so bad? Like many people already said, these volunteers are at homes, jobs, where ever. So they are not just sitting at the stations waiting for a call to come through and jump on the piece and get out the door. They have to get in their vehicles, drive to the station, get their #### and roll back out the door. That is obviously going to add to the response time. And you and everyone else are right, paid positions aren't going to guarantee the closest station will get there because they are on other calls. However, if they are actually at the stations, when those calls come through, the people needing aid won't have to wait those extra minutes because the volunteers have to drive to the station, or wait for a damn driver to get there. Just think about it from a family standpoint...... that's all I'm saying. A lot of ya'll took what I wrote and severely twisted it and made it sound like I hate volunteers and I'm all pro-paid. Which I'm not for the millionth time!!!!!! Damn!

I personally can't volunteer for reasons that's nobodys business. To that chick who said she volunteered for 17 years, that's awesome. Kuddos to you and EVERY volunteer.

No body twisted a thing you said!!! Here, let me quote you since you've conveniently forgotten what you said and had your ass handed to you for criticizing our local departments and LEO.

I know it's not PG county, and that it's all volunteer(somewhat), but this is exactly why St.Marys/Calvert/Charles need paid people. What were you saying about not being pro-paid??? Get caught with your foot in your mouth much??

Because if it takes 15minutes for first responders to get to any type of incident, No, you weren't moaning much...

I was dumbfounded. Yep, your posts sure have proven that.

Then the cops that were there... I won't even get into that.[/B] Oh please do get into it. I want to hear what other complaints your whiney ass has.

He HAS thought seriously about volunteering in St.Marys because of the response times down here, etc., but knows many PGFD employees who have done so, and have basically paid the repurcussions because of it. He wants to, but is afraid of what may happen, so he flip flops on the decision. It sucks. What's his problem?? What's your problem?? You want to criticize yet neither you or hubby are willing to do a damn thing to help! Thanks a lot.

And if the Chief is who I think it was, he showed up with his daughter in the truck, to which he let sit there all by herself..on the side of the road. I heard her screaming, and I thought it was the child from the crash, but then saw his kid in the back of the truck freaking out. Really great. Yep those damned redneck hicks!! How dare they take so long to respond then bring their kids with them!! But I'm not complaining or anything...

I don't know, it just opened up my eyes as to how bad it is down there. Yall twist this around now ya heah!!

I've always heard about the response times, but to see it first hand just blew me. Gee, I wonder how everyone misinterpreted your words...

I really hope they can either recruit a lot more volunteers(that can drive the pieces as well), and are available during the weekdays, yet you and hubby have a million reasons not to volunteer...

or just get some career staff to cover the days Monday-Friday Now who accused you of being pro-paid again??

It's scary. I know we read what we want to but you prolly meant to say how awesome we are.

If paid personnel were in place Monday-Friday during the days (because that's when most these stations fail), we wouldn't have this problem now would we? Did any of you people actually read what I wrote? yes we read it just fine. How many times have I quoted you on your "paid personnel" comments now???

You just read what you wanted to and now want to attack. Ummm...no! See above.

The response times down here are terrible because the volunteers aren't getting it done during the day And YOUR solution is....? Oh wait, paid people can use the star trek transporter to cover the 10+ miles it takes to get from Mechanicsville to Wicomoco in 2 seconds.

How am I clueless? I read the papers. I see the stats of stations failing. Again, I know we read what we want to but you prolly meant to say how awesome we are.

I live in Mechanicsville. I've seen first hand how long it takes for them and others to get out the station. That's all I'm saying.
We support the volunteers. Yea, we see how supportive you are.... :killingme

Just saying that the response times down here in St.Marys County are ridiculous. Could you repeat this? Us dum dum's can't read very well and twist things around.

All these other people on here read what they wanted to. No, we read everything you said above. :coffee:

the Solomons station on Little Cove Point Rd failed miserably all the time. It's sad. This is like shooting fish in a barrel. :killingme

My only thing I was stating was we always hear about the response times down here in St.Marys and I was actually able to witness it first hand. Well show us the fantastic response times of Charles, Calvert and PG. I wanna see how real departments respond.

Thanks for understanding and not being a dick like the others. We find something to biatch about and go post it criticizing volunteer organizations all the time. Yea, we're dicks.

I'm not attacking the system, No, not much....read what you said below. :killingme:killingme:killingme:killingme:killingme:killingme

it's more or less the county because they have known about the problem for a while. But like most places, they'll be re-active instead of pro-active. Bunch a friggin yocals. it's a wonder we've survived all these years just sittin on our porches doin nuthin..yuk yuk yuk....
